synonyms: domesticated, domestic, not wild, docile, tamed, disciplined, broken, broken-in, trained, not fierce, gentle, mild, used to humans.
Example: Presidential contests in India are usually tame and predictable, and 2017 does not promise to be any different.
2.Exception (noun)
a person or thing that is excluded from a general statement or does not follow a rule.
synonyms: anomaly, irregularity, deviation, special case, departure, inconsistency, quirk, peculiarity, abnormality, oddity
Example: To date, the election of V.V. Giri over Neelam Sanjiva Reddy in 1969 remains the only notable exception to the long list of humdrum presidential elections: Prime Minister Indira Gandhi called for a “conscience vote” just before the election, and a sizeable number of Congress parliamentarians and legislators voted against the “official” candidate, Reddy, in favour of Giri.
3.Eminent (adjective)
(of a person) famous and respected within a particular sphere.
synonyms: illustrious, distinguished, renowned, esteemed, pre-eminent, notable, noteworthy, great, prestigious, important, significant, influential, outstanding, noted,

4.Sovereignty (noun)
supreme power or authority.
synonyms: jurisdiction, supremacy, dominion, power, ascendancy, suzerainty, tyranny, hegemony, domination, sway, predominance, authority, control, influence, rule;
Example: In a strongly worded statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said not only does India have “sovereignty” issues over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) part of the B&R, it has environmental worries and concerns over the “unsustainable debt burden” for smaller countries, as well as over the lack of transparency from China.
5.Insulate (verb)
protect (something) by interposing material that prevents the loss of heat or the intrusion of sound.

6.Hoax (noun)
a humorous or malicious deception.
synonyms: practical joke, joke, jest, prank, trick, jape.
Example: Candidate Trump had called climate change a “hoax”. President Trump followed this up with anti-climate policies since assuming office. So the June 2 announcement was just a formality. But with this formality, he has made the Paris Agreement meaningless.
7.Conundrum (noun)
a confusing and difficult problem or question.
synonyms: problem, difficult question, vexed question, difficulty, quandary, dilemma
Example: But the fact is even if Ms. Clinton would have been the President, the U.S. would have done little to help solve the climate change conundrum. It committed minimum emissions reduction: 26-28% below 2005 levels by 2025.
8.Allude (verb)
suggest or call attention to indirectly; hint at.
synonyms: refer to, suggest, hint at, imply, mention, touch on, mention in passing, mention en passant, speak briefly of, make an allusion to, cite;
Example: Some commentators have alluded that other countries should step forward and share the burden left by the U.S. This is a very simplistic way of looking at the problem. The world — the U.S. and us — cannot combat climate change without changing the way we drive, build homes or consume goods.
9.Punitive (adjective)
inflicting or intended as punishment.
synonyms: penal, disciplinary, corrective, correctional, retributive.
Example: While other countries must step up their commitment to cut emissions, they should also put punitive measures, including economic and trade sanctions, to ensure that countries such as the U.S. don’t walk away.

stubbornly refusing to change one's opinion or course of action.
Example: It is time to call a spade a spade: U.S. obduracy on climate change has ensured the world today is in the danger zone and will go critical soon. Since 1992, when the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was signed, the U.S. has played offence — finger-pointing at others and justifying its own lack of action. It is time the rest of us stopped playing defence.
