1.Trickle (verb)
Meaning: (of a liquid) flow in a small stream.
synonyms: drip, dribble, drizzle, flow, run, spill;
Example: News about the coming death of India’s information technology (IT) services industry started to trickle in about five years ago.

2.Prognostication (noun)
Meaning: the action of prophesying future events., a prophecy.
synonyms: prediction, forecast, prophecy, divination, prognosis, projection;
Example: Despite such prognostications, there is also optimism about the prospects of India’s IT services industry for the coming decade. First, the industry has gone through, and survived, trying times before, such as the dot-com crash of the early 2000s and the 2008 financial crisis.

3.Arbitrage (noun)
Meaning: the simultaneous buying and selling of securities, currency, or commodities in different markets or in derivative forms in order to take advantage of differing prices for the same asset.
Example: This includes consistency of service and guaranteed results or the opportunity for them to benefit from “responsibility arbitrage”.


4.Deteriorate (verb)
Meaning: become progressively worse.
synonyms: worsen, get worse, decline, be in decline, degenerate, decay.
Example: However, the deteriorating situation raises questions about the feasibility of elections. Today, less than 60% of Afghanistan’s territory is under government control; the rest is either contested by or under the Taliban. 

5.Abrupt (adjective)
Meaning: sudden and unexpected.
synonyms: sudden, immediate, instantaneous, hurried, hasty, quick, swift, rapid, speedy, 
Example: The four-country quadrilateral group involving China along with Pakistan, the U.S. and Afghanistan came to an abrupt end when it was revealed that Mullah Omar was no longer alive and had died, possibly two years earlier. Russia is now promoting the idea of talks by playing up the idea of the larger threat of the Islamic State that has emerged in eastern Afghanistan in Nangarhar province though this has failed to carry much traction with the Afghan authorities.

6.Notoriously (adverb)
Meaning: used to emphasize that a quality or fact, typically a bad one, is well known.
Example: They are notoriously difficult to track down. If you hold your hand towards the sunlight for one second, about a billion neutrinos from the sun will pass through it; this is because they are the by-products of nuclear fusion in the sun. 

7.Lapse (noun)
Meaning: a brief or temporary failure of concentration, memory, or judgement.
synonyms: failure, failing, slip, error, mistake, blunder, fault, omission, oversight, negligence. 
Example: The procedural lapses and assumptions about the project’s agenda have made a project of this scale hard to bear fruit in India. 


8.Apprehension (noun)
Meaning: anxiety or fear that something bad or unpleasant will happen.
synonyms: anxiety, angst, alarm, worry, uneasiness, unease, nervousness, misgiving, disquiet, concern, agitation, restlessness, edginess, fidgetiness, nerves, tension, trepidation, perturbation, consternation, panic, fearfulness, dread, fear, shock.
Example: While public apprehensions in such projects are understandable, they also demonstrate that communication between the scientific community and the public needs to be more basic and democratic. For a country of young minds, we should generate sufficient public support for such high technology and science projects. 

9.Notwithstanding (preposition)
Meaning: in spite of.
synonyms: in spite of, despite, regardless of, for all
Example: The fall of the Soviet Union shook their ideological confidence. Instead of  rethinking their approach to make themselves relevant, they too joined the bandwagon of ‘there is no alternative’ and started following neoliberal policies notwithstanding the occasional noises made against imperialism and finance capital.

10.Alienate (verb)
Meaning: make (someone) feel isolated or estranged.
synonyms: estrange, turn away, set apart, drive apart, isolate, detach, distance, put at a distance.
Example: The bold announcement should allay the apprehensions of sceptics who would have 
assumed that Mr. Moon may be rather soft towards the North, as well as those who feared that engaging Pyongyang could alienate the U.S.
