Direction (Q. 1-5): Study the following chart the table and answer the questions given below.

1.What will be the percentage of total number of males in U.P., M.P. and Goa together to the total population of all the given states?

1). Let N = 3276000.
Number of males in U.P =(3/5) of (15% of N)= (3/5) × (15/100) × N = 9×(N/100)
Number of males in M.P = [3/4 of (20% of N)] = (3/4) × (20/100)×N = 15×(N/100)
Number of males in Goa = [(3/8) of (12% of N)] = (3/8) × (12/100) ×N = 4.5×(N/100)
Total number of males in these three states = (9+15+4.5) × (N/100)
= 28.5 × (N/100)
Required Percentage = {[28.5 × (N/100)] / N × 100}% = 28.5%
Answer: C
2. What is the ratio of the number of females in Tamilnadu to the number of females in Delhi?

2). Required ratio = [(4/7)of (9% of 3276000)] / [(3/5) of (8% of 3276000)]
= [(4/7) × 9] / [(3/5) × 8] = (4/7) × 9 × (5/3) × (1/8)
= 15/14 = 15:14
Answer: D

3.What was the total number of illiterate people in A.P. and M.P. in 2001?
3).No. of illiterate people in A.P. = [(7/9) of (25% of 3276000)] = 637000
No. of illiterate people in M.P. = [(4/5) of (20% of 3276000)] = 524160
Total number = 637000 + 524160 = 1161160
Answer : D

4.What was the number of males in U.P. in the year 2001?
4). Number of males in U.P. = [(3/5) of (15% of 3276000)]
= (3/5) × (15/100) × 3726000 = 294840.
Answer : E

5.If in the year 2001, there was an increase of 10% in the population of U.P. and 12% in the population of M.P. compared to the previous year, and then what was the ratio of populations of U.P. and M.P. in 2000?
5).Let X be the population of U.P. in 2000. Then,
Population of U.P. in 2001 = 110% of X = (110/100) × X
Also, let Y be the population of M.P. in 2000. Then,
Population of M.P. in 2001 = 112% of Y = (112/100) × Y
Ratio of populations of U.P. and M.P. in 2001 = [(110/100) × X] / [(112/100) × Y] = 110X / 112Y
From the pie-chart, this ratio is (15/20).
110X/112Y = 15/20 = X/Y = (15/20) × (112/110) = 42/55
Thus, ratio of populations of U.P. and M.P. in 2000 = X :Y = 42:55
Answer: A
