1. The ratio between the present age of Rithi and Seeta is 5:4. Four years ago, Seeta’s age was 24 years. What will be the age of Rithi after 5 years?
1). Rithi : Seeta = 5X : 4X
4X – 4 = 24
4X = 28 è X = 7
∴ the age of Rithi after 5 years = 5X+5 = 35 + 5 = 40 years
Answer: B
2. The average age weight of 8 men is increased by 1.5 kg when one of them whose weight 65 kg is replaced by a new man. The weight of new man is?
2). The increased weight is, è (66.5 ×8) - (65 ×8)
è 532 – 520 = 12 kg
∴ the weight of the new man is, 65 + 12 = 77 kg
Answer: D

3. At present Geetha is eight times her daughter’s age. 8 years from now, the ratio of the ages of Geetha and her daughter will be 10: 3 respectively. What is Geetha’s present age?
3). Geetha : Geetha’s daughter è 8X : X
è (9x + 8) / (x + 8) = 10/3
è 24 X + 24 = 10 X + 80
è X = 4
∴ Geetha’s present age is 8 × 4 = 32 years
Answer: A

4. Out of the four numbers, the average of first three is 15 and that of the last three is 16. If the last number is 19 then what is the first number?
4). Let the four numbers are X1, X2, X3 and X4.
è (x1 + x2 + x3) / 3 = 15
∴ X1 + X2 + X3= 45 ------------ (1)
è (x2 + x3 + x4) / 3 = 16
è (x2 + x3 + x4) = 48
è (x1 + x2 + x3) / 3 = 15
è X2 + X3 + X4= 48
è X2 + X3 = 48 – 19 = 29--------- (2)
è Substitute (2) in (1), we get X1 = 45 – 29 = 16.
∴ the first number X1 is 16.
Answer: C

5. Kamal’s present age is three times his daughter's and nine- thirteenth of his mother’s present age. The sum of the present ages of all three of them is 125 yr. what is the difference between the present ages of Kamal’s daughter and kamal’s mother?
5). Let the age of Kamal’s daughter is X
Then, the age of Kamal is, 3X and the age of Kamal’s mother is, (13x / 9) × 3x = 13x /3
According to the question,
X + 3x + (13x/3) = 125
X = 15
Hence, required difference is, (13x / 3) – x = 10x / 3 = (10 × 15) / 3 = 50 years
Answer: C

6. The average age of a family of five members is 24. If the present age of the youngest member is 8 yrs, what was the average age of the family at the time of the birth of the youngest member?
6). Total age of five members of a family = 24 × 5 =120
Total age of four members at the time of birth of youngest on è 120 – 40 = 80
Hence, the average age of the family is, 80/4 = 20 years.
Answer: A

7. The average age of a man and his two twin sons born on the same day is 30 years. The ratio of the ages of father and one son is 5: 2, what is the age of father?
7). The total age of three members are, 30 × 3 = 90 years
è The ratio of father and one son is, 5: 2
è ∴ the ratio of father and both the sons are, 5: 2: 2
è 5 X + 2X + 2X =90
∴ X =10
∴ the age of the father is 50 years
Answer: D

8. In a certain examination, the average mark of an examinee is 64 per paper. If he had obtained 18 more marks for his mathematics paper and 4 more marks for his science paper, his average per paper would have been 66. How many papers were there in the examination?
8). Let the number of papers be X,
According to the question, 64 X + 18 + 4 = 66 X
è 2 X = 22
∴ X = 11
Answer: B

9. The average weight of 21 boys was recorded as 64 kg. If the weight of the teacher was added, the average increased by one kg. What was the teacher’s weight?
9). Weight of teacher = 21 (65-64) + 65 = 86 kg
Answer: A

10. The average age of 14 girls and their teacher’s age is 15 year. If the teacher’s age is excluded, then the average reduced by one. What is the teacher’s age?
10). The total of 14 girl’s and teacher’s age is, 15 × 15= 225
If the teacher’s age is excluded, then the total reduced by 1,
So, 14 × 14 = 196
∴ the teacher’s age is, 225 -196 = 29 year
Answer: C
