Ram Nath Kovind resigned from the post of governor of Bihar

Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind has resigned from his gubernatorial post. The resignation follows his nomination as the ruling NDA’s presidential candidate. President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted the resignation of Kovind as the Governor of Bihar. West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will discharge the functions of the Governor of Bihar, in addition to his own duties.

Wi-Fi hotspots across Hyderabad launched

Hyderabad Mayor B. Rammohan on Tuesday launched the ‘Hyderabad City Wi-Fi Project’ or ‘Hy-Fi’ with over 1,000 hotspots where citizens can access Internet free for about half-an-hour. Mr. Rammohan said these hotspots would be upgraded to 3,000 across different areas of the twin cities.

To promote Cooperation in the Field of Archives, India and Portugal sign an agreement

A Protocol of Cooperation was signed between the National Archives of India and the Minister of Culture of the Portuguese Republic in the field of archives in Lisbon, Portugal. As a first step under this agreement, the Torre do Tombo (National Archives of Portugal) handed over to the National Archives of India digital copies of 62 volumes of the collection known as ‘Moncoes do Reino’ (Monsoon correspondence). These volumes were originally part of over 456 volumes that cover the period from 1568 to 1914 and form the largest of all record collections in the Goa State Archives.

Saudi king names son Mohammed bin Salman as crown prince

Saudi King Salman today named his son Mohammed bin Salman as crown prince. This completes a gradual removal of powers from the previous prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who has been fired. According to a royal decree issued by the official Saudi Press Agency, Mohammed bin Salman, was also named deputy Prime Minister, and maintains his post as minister of defence.

Government asks banks, post offices to deposit scrapped Rs. 500, Rs. 1,000 notes to RBI by 20th July
Government has asked banks to deposit demonetised notes at RBI by the 20th of next month. The government has permitted banks and post offices to deposit junked Rs. 500 and 1,000 notes with the Reserve Bank by the deadline. This is the second window being provided to banks, post offices and cooperative banks for depositing the notes. The earlier window was open till December 31, a day after the 50-day period of demonetisation of high value currency.

Tata Group has signed an agreement with Lockheed Martin to produce and export new generation F-16 fighter aircraft
The defence arm of the Tata Group has signed an agreement with American firm Lockheed Martin to produce and export new generation F-16 fighter aircraft, potentially kick-starting a mega ‘Make in India’ project. The agreement has been signed at the Paris Airshow, Lockheed to produce F-16 fighter planes in India. It is the newest and most advanced version of the world’s most successful, combat-proven multi-role fighter.

The Indian Navy’s first indigenously built floating dock (FDN-2), developed by Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (L&T), was launched at L&T’s shipyard in Kattupalli on Tuesday. The floating dock is 185 metres long and 40 metres wide and will enable docking of all kinds of vessels, including Naval ships and submarines (excepting aircraft carriers and tankers) of up to 8,000 tonnes displacement, with draughts of up to seven metres, during both day and night.
