These vocab words will help you a lot in your competitive exams.
1.Herald (verb)
Meaning: be a sign that (something) is about to happen.
Synonyms: signal, indicate, announce, point to, spell, presage, augur, portend, promise, prefigure, foreshadow, foretell
Example: This optimism was based on many reasons. Akhilesh Yadav was extremely popular and ubiquitous on television. The media heralded him as an agent of change who dared to take on the old guard, even within his own family. And the SP-Congress alliance had the social arithmetic in its favour.
2.Ubiquitous (adjective)
Meaning: present, appearing, or found everywhere.
Synonyms: omnipresent, ever-present, present everywhere, everywhere, all-over, all over the place, pervasive, all-pervasive, universal, worldwide, global.

3.Luminary (noun)
Meaning: a person who inspires or influences others, especially one prominent in a particular sphere.
Synonyms: leading light, guiding light, inspiration, leader, expert, master, panjandrum, dignitary, VIP.
Example: To honour luminaries of specific communities, the government declared public holidays on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar; Maharshi Kashyap Jayanti and Maharshi Nishadraj Jayanti; Hazrat Ajmeri Garib Nawaz Urs; Maharana Pratap Jayanti; and Karpoori Thakur Jayanti.
4.Patronage (noun)
Meaning: the support given by a patron.
synonyms: sponsorship, backing, funding, financing, philanthropy, promotion, furtherance, help, aid, assistance, support, guaranty, encouragement, championship, advocacy.
Example: The results from U.P. and Tamil Nadu fatally damage the characterisation of Indian voters as motivated solely by patronage. The question is, can academics like us let go of our view that citizens are homo economicus and therefore votes are bought and sold?
5.Stratagem (noun)
Meaning: a plan or scheme, especially one used to outwit an opponent or achieve an end.
synonyms: plan, scheme, tactic, manoeuvre, move, course/line of action, ploy, gambit, device.
Example: Essentially a stratagem to ensure that no muck sticks, this clause is often proffered to shield persons occupying high office from adverse fallouts when a scandal, controversy or instance of corruption is exposed.
6.Plausible (adjective)
Meaning: (of an argument or statement) seeming reasonable or probable.
Synonyms: credible, reasonable, believable, likely, feasible, probable, tenable, possible, conceivable, imaginable, within the bounds of possibility, convincing, persuasive, cogent, sound, rational, logical, acceptable, thinkable.
Example: With no evidence to prove it otherwise, the denial becomes plausible. Unsurprisingly, the term was coined to ring fence senior CIA and administration officials in the 1960s from the agency’s murky activities in other countries.
7.Paradox (noun)
Meaning: a seemingly absurd or contradictory statement or proposition which when investigated may prove to be well founded or true.
Synonyms: contradiction, contradiction in terms, self-contradiction, inconsistency, incongruity, anomaly, conflict.
Example: A continuing paradox about India’s growth story in the last two decades, which have seen a substantial reduction in poverty, is the persistence of poor performance on the health count.
8.Fallacious (adjective)
Meaning: based on a mistaken belief.
Synonyms: erroneous, false, untrue, wrong, incorrect, faulty, flawed, inaccurate, inexact, imprecise, mistaken, misinformed, misguided, misleading, deceptive, delusive, delusory, illusory, sophistic, specious, fictitious, spurious, fabricated, distorted, made up, trumped up.
Example: “In so far as loss which occurred to the nation as a whole it will be suffice to state that had coal been extracted if the coal block was allocated to a genuine and deserving company in an objective manner then it would have certainly added to the infrastructural development of the country... Thus it is... a fallacious argument that no wrongful loss or gain has been caused on account of allocation of said coal block to KSSPL,” Mr. Parashar said in the conviction order.
9.Anonymous (adjective)
Meaning: (of a person) not identified by name; of unknown name.
synonyms: unnamed, of unknown name, nameless, incognito, unidentified, unknown, unspecified, undesignated, unacknowledged, mystery.
Example: He said his brother had told him two months ago that he was receiving death threats from anonymous people and that he was under “tremendous pressure.” Mr. Mayank said his brother told him about a file he was working on “which will expose a big scam in Karnataka.”
10.Mud-slinging (noun)
Meaning: the use of insults and accusations, especially unjust ones, with the aim of damaging the reputation of an opponent.
Example: “ Enough of negative politics and mudslinging by opponents on our political leaders, be it Kejriwal, Lalu Yadav or Sushil Modi… high time to substantiate your claims or pack up! Can’t just keep feeding media with one night stories and sensationalizing.
