South Asia Satellite set to be launched today
The Indian Space Research Organization ISRO is all set to launch the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle GSLV F-09 carrying the high profile South Asia Satellite at 4:57 this evening. The 28-hour countdown is about to reach its climax in a couple of hours leading to its lift off from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikotta.
Chattisgarh auctions India’s most expensive limestone block
Chattisgarh successfully auctioned its third limestone block, Kesla-II to Dalmia Cement with the highest bid received 96.15% of IBM (Indian Bureau of Mines) prices which are 20 times more than the reserve price. Kesla-II block is situated in the Tilda Tehsil of Raipur district of Chhattisgarh and covers over 357 hectares of area with an average grade of 43% CaO. In terms of percent of IBM prices, this deal has broken the national record held by Rajasthan at 67.94 percent of IBM prices for its limestone block of Nagaur District.

Draft Rules for No Fly List for Banning Unruly Passengers Unveiled
The government has released draft rules for a ‘no-fly list’ for banning unruly passengers. The Ministry of Civil Aviation had set up a committee to come up with the final draft of the new set of rules. The new rules would be opened for public comments for a period of one month. After receiving comments, the civil aviation ministry would study the comments and then will release the final Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR).
MP CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan inaugurates world level weapon production unit inBhind district
The world level weapon production unit “Punj Lyod Defence System” was inaugurated in Malanpur Industrial Area of Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. The unit was jointly inaugurated by Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Rural Development Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.The state government claimed that it is the first small weapon manufacturing unit in private sector in the country. It has been set up in the joint partnership of India’s Punj Lyod and Israel Weapon Industry under the Make in India Programme.

West Bengal is the only state which did not take part in the government's Swachh Survekshan Survey 2017, the results of which were announced on Thursday. The state CM Mamata Banerjee had opted out of the mission, claiming her government cannot 'burden' the people with additional taxes on water and other civic amenities.

The Haryana Govt. will set up police public schools in all subdivisions to provide best education facilities to the children of police personnel in the state by the end of April 2018. 1,560 houses for police personnel are being constructed by the corporation in the first phase and construction of 1,500 more houses will be undertaken in the second phase. The Police Housing Corporation has already constructed 10 such police schools in the state.

In the US, the House of Representatives has passed a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare. The passing of the American Health Care Act hands down a major victory to President Donald Trump who has been a strong critic of his predecessor, Barack Obama's signature healthcare bill. The latest legislation was narrowly approved mostly along partisan lines, 217-213, with just one vote to spare. No Democrat backed the bill, and a number of Republicans opposed it as well.

India’s human rights record came up for review under the Universal Periodic Review Process at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva yesterday. Attorney General of India, Mukul Rohatgi presented India's endeavours towards observance of human rights supported by rights-oriented constitutional framework, secular policy, independent judiciary and free and vibrant Media. Speaking at the third Universal Period Review of India in Geneva, Rohatgi said India believes that the goal of achieving human rights calls for constant dialogue, engagement and coordination among various stakeholders. He said, India remain convinced that inclusive and equitable development is the key to securing a life of dignity, security, empowerment and freedom for all.

BANKING NEWS
President Pranab Mukherjee today gave his assent to an ordinance to amend the Banking Regulation Act for resolution of the non-performing asset (NPA) crisis. This ordinance will give greater powers to the Reserve Bank to tackle mounting bad loans. The amendments to the Act will help in effectively resolving the bad loans problem.

IBBI constitutes Technical Committee to lay down Technical Standards forperformance of core services
The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) constituted a Technical Committee to lay down technical standards for performance of core services in accordance with Regulation 14 of theIBBI (Information Utilities) Regulations, 2017. The committee will be headed by RB Barman, Chairman of National Statistical Commission.
According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Indian economy will grow 7.4% this fiscal, and 7.6% in the next fiscal. India had grown 7.1% in the previous fiscal. The Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the new bankruptcy law will make it easier to do business in India.

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed a solar hybrid electric car using in-house resources. The car, developed at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram, will run on lithium ion batteries and can be recharged with sunlight using solar panels equipped on top of the car.
APPOINTMENTS:
The Union government has appointed Braj Bihari Kumar, editor of quarterly journals Dialogue and Chintan Srijan, as the new Chairman of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Kumar’s name was finalised for the top position by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development. He would be succeeding noted economist S K Thorat, who was appointed by the former UPA government.
Renowned tea planter from Assam Prabhat Kamal Bezboruah, who was once a banker in the US, was appointed as the Chairman of the Tea Board of India. Bezboruah will have a tenure till November 2018.With this, Bezboruah became the first non-IAS and the first industry insider to head the Kolkata-headquartered Tea Board, the governing body of the industry.On the other hand, renowned coffee grower M S Boje Gowda was appointed as Chairman of the Coffee Board of India. He will serve the post till December 2018.
SPORTS NEWS:
The Indian football team made it into the top 100 of the FIFA World Rankings for the first time in 21 years. The team is placed at 100th alongside Nicaragua, Lithuania, Estonia. The FIFA rankings were released on 4 May 2017.
