Today is World Health Day and WHO is leading a one-year global campaign on depression which is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. The goal of the campaign is that more people with depression, everywhere in the world, both seek and get help.
World Health Day is celebrated on 7th of April every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization. The day provides with a unique opportunity to mobilize action around a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world.
Bill on allowing bullock cart races passed in Maharashtra Assembly passes :
The Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday passed a bill to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act to legalise bullock cart races in the state. The amendment is aimed at ensuring the preservation of native breeds of bulls, reports said. Earlier, Tamil Nadu had passed a similar bill to overturn a Supreme Court-ordered ban on the bull-taming sport of Jallikattu.

Goods and Services Tax Bill passed in Rajya Sabha :
The Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed the four legislations which will enable the rollout of Goods and Services Tax Bill by July 1. The four Bills are the Central GST Bill, the Integrated GST Bill, the Compensation Bill and the UT GST Bill. Notably, the GST regime would absorb central excise, service tax, and other local levies.
47th Regional News Unit of AIR commissioned at Visakhapatnam :
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu will Commission the 47th Regional News Unit of News Services Division of All India Radio at Visakhapatnam.
All arrangements are in full swing for the commissioning of the Regional News Unit which is going to broadcast a 10-minute news bulletin in Telugu from today to be aired from 08:00 to 08:10 PM daily which can be heard on frequency of 927 kHz (323.6 M).
Bangladesh PM arrives on four-day India visit :
Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina arrived in New Delhi today on a four-day visit to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi received his Bangladeshi counterpart at the Delhi airport. More than 20 pacts are set to be inked during Sheikh Hasina's visit. Two agreements are expected to be signed in the area of defence.
India is expected to extend Line of Credit of 500 million dollars to Bangladesh for defence purchases. India will also be entering into an inter governmental agreement on civil nuclear energy with Bangladesh. Bus service connecting two cities of India and Bangladesh and train services involving West Bengal and Bangladesh will be launched during the visit.

3-day National Children’s Film Festival inaugurated today at Vishakhapatnam :
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate a three-day National Children’s Film Festival in Vishakhapatnam beginning today. It is the largest film festival for children in the country giving the audience quality and wholesome entertainment. The aim of the film festival is to expose children to quality cinema and to introduce novel elements beyond films.
The film bonanza for children of Andhra Pradesh will be held at VUDA Children's Theatre jointly organized by Children's Film Society of India and Andhra Pradesh government. More than 40,000 children from the state are expected to attend screening of 24 films during the festival.

2-day national TB summit starts today in Dharamshala :
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that India would be made TB free till the year 2025. He has advised party MP’s to start nationwide awareness campaign in their respective areas to achieve this target. Now in this regard two days national TB summit will begin in Dharamshala town of Kangra district today. Several MP’s from different political parties, renowned experts, doctors and celebrities would take part in the deliberations.
India versus TB, TB harega, Desh Jeetega-with this slogan the national summit on TB frees India would begin today. Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association HPCA is organizing this summit under the guidance of BJP MP Anurag Thakur.
Awareness program on promoting digital payments to be organised by UP govt on 14th April :
In Uttar Pradesh, to promote digital payments, awareness programmes will be organised at all district and tehsil headquarters across the state on 14th of this month.
Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar has issued a directive and asked the officials that public participation on a large scale should be encouraged in such programmes. He said, arrangements should be done at Gram Panchayat level for live telecast and broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address on the occasion.

Maharashtra Cabinet approves draft Bill of Journalists Protection Act :
The Maharashtra cabinet yesterday gave its approval to the draft Bill on the law prohibiting attacks on journalists (Journalists Protection Act). A state minister said that the bill will be tabled in both the Houses of the state Legislature today, the last day of the ongoing budget session.
The draft of the bill prepared by the government was circulated to journalist bodies for suggestions and objections late last year. The government prepared the final draft after suggestions and objections were submitted.

Deendayal Rasoi Yojna to be launched by Madhya Pradesh govt to provide food at subsidized rate to poor :
In Madhya Pradesh, the state government is launching Deendayal Rasoi Yojna today to provide food at a subsidized rate to the poor in urban areas. Our Bhopal correspondent reports, the scheme will be implemented in all the 51 district headquarters in the first phase.
A full meal will be provided under the Deendayal Thali in just five rupees. The thali will have four rotis, one sabzi, and dal. The Thali will be available from 11 AM in till 3 PM .Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will inaugurate the Deendayal Rasoi Yojana at Gwalior today.

US President orders US flags to fly at half-mast in honour of astronaut John Glenn :
Flags across the United States were flown at half-mast on Thursday in honour of John Glenn, who was the first American to orbit the planet in 1962. President Donald Trump had issued a proclamation ordering the lowering of the flags "as a mark of respect" in the astronaut's memory. Glenn, who died in December, was buried on Thursday.

Constitution for election signed by Thai king :
Thailand's king has signed a new constitution, paving the way for an election that would bring the country back to democratic rule. King Maha Vajiralongkorn has signed the document in a ceremony at Bangkok yesterday. An original draft of the constitution, viewed as the basis for returning to democracy, was approved in a referendum last August. But the King has asked in January that changes be made to give him more power on appointing a regent in the event he isn't in the country.

RBI cuts clearance time to be faster NEFT transfers :
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has decided to slash clearance time for National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) in an attempt to enhance efficiency of the electronic payment system and add to customer convenience.
RBI in the first bi-monthly monetary policy for 2017-18 yesterday said that in line with the document on Vision-2018 for Payment and Settlement Systems, the NEFT settlement cycle will be reduced from hourly batches to half hourly batches.

Ban on cash transactions of over Rs 2 lakh not applicable for bank, post office withdrawals :
The Income Tax department has clarified that the ban on cash transaction in excess of 2 lakh rupees will not be applicable to withdrawals from banks and post office savings accounts.
Through the Finance Act 2017, the government has banned cash transactions of over 2 lakhs and said a penalty of an equal amount would be levied on the receiver. The Central Board of Direct Taxes said, a necessary notification in this regard would be issued.

Defence deals worth over 2 billion dollar signed between India & Israel :
Israel has signed about two billion US dollars deal with India to supply advanced missile defence systems, bolstering bilateral military ties. CEO of the state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) , Joseph Weiss said in a statement that, it will provide advanced medium-range surface-to-air missile systems (MRSAM) to the Indian Army.
He said it would also supply additional long-range air and missile defence systems (LRSAM) for the first locally produced Indian aircraft carrier.

Two foreign coaches appointed by Sports Ministry for athletics :
India's Sports Minister, Vijay Goel, approved the appointment of two foreign coaches in the discipline of athletics on Thursday. Goel said his ministry is committed to providing best possible help, sports infrastructure and equipment to athletes in their training for preparation and participation in international competitions. The appointments include a race walking and a 400-metre relay coach.

64th National Film Awards announced :
The 64th National Film Awards have been announced and Marathi Movie Kaasav directed by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar has bagged the Best Feature Film Award.
Akshay Kumar has been chosen for the Best Actor Award for Hindi Movie Rustom. Surabhi C M has been named as the best actress for her role in Malayalam film Minnaminungu-The Firefly. Sonam Kapoor starrer Neerja bagged the best Hindi film award. Sonam will receive a special mention for her critically-lauded performance. Further, actress Zaira Wasim won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for her role in 'Dangal'.

The Indian football team jumped 31 places to reach the, its best in 20 years, in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday. India, ranked 11th in Asia, have won 11 of their last 13 matches, scoring 31 goals. India posted a 1-0 victory over Myanmar recently, after registering a 3-2 win over Cambodia in a friendly.
Pakistan cricketer Misbah-ul-Haq announces retirement from Test cricket :
Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has announced he will retire from Test cricket after the completion of upcoming Test series against West Indies. The 42-year-old said he will continue to play cricket at domestic level alongside other cricket activities. Misbah, who was made captain in 2010, guided Pakistan to achieve the number one spot in ICC Test rankings for the first time.
PV Sindhu reaches career-best World No.2 ranking :
Rio Olympics silver medallist P V Sindhu jumped three places to achieve a career-best world number two ranking in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released today.
The 21-year-old shuttler from Hyderabad became only the second Indian woman after Saina Nehwal to break into the top-five of the world rankings by earning 75759 points.
