Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed prevailing security situation in the state. Speaking to media after the meeting, Ms Mufti said, she told the Prime Minister that the Centre should seriously think about the welfare of the state and there is no other option but to talk. She also said, there should be an environment for talks in the valley.
Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi has called for enforcement of Juvenile Justice Act. He said, there is a very strong provision under the Act to stop children taking to criminal activities. He was answering a question about the rise in juvenile crime rate. Talking to reporters in Kolkata, he pointed out that children will not be forced to become slaves, prostitutes or turn to violent acts if their right to education is ensured and social security programmes like the mid-day meal are properly implemented.
Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari begins a five day two nation tour to Armenia and Poland from this afternoon. During the visit, Mr. Ansari will hold talks with top leaders of the two countries on a wide range of issues. The visit of the vice president intends to further strengthen the cordial relation between the two countries, develop cooperation and partnership on shared common interest. Accompanied by a high level delegation, the Vice-President will reach the Armenian capital Yerevan this evening. Mr. Ansari will hold talks with Armenian President Serzh Darshan, the Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan and their Foreign Minister during his stay. He is also scheduled to deliver a lecture at Armenia State University. India is celebrating 25 years of diplomatic relationship with Armenia this year.
The National Panchayati Raj Diwas was observed across India on 24 April 2017. The day is observed every year to mark the passing of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992, which came into effect on 24 April 1993. The day would be commemorated with a function in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The function would be inaugurated by the UP CM Yogi Adityanath and presided over by Birender Singh, the Union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj and Drinking water.• The Union Minister of Panchayati Raj organises a National Conference every year to commemorate the day.

The image shows Rajkumar on the big screen in a movie theatre with the audience watching him. The actor real name was Singanalluru Puttaswamayya Muthuraju. He joined the Kannada film industry at the age of eight, and got his first break as a lead in the 1954 film "Bedara Kannappa".
In Itanagar, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union today took out a protest rally against China’s claim over the and renaming 6 places in the state. The Students’ organization also burnt the effigy of the Chinese President Xi Jinping. AAPSU said that Arunachal Pradesh was a part of India and will remain a part of India. Hundreds of students and general public participated in the protest rally. The simmering issue of the China’s claim over Arunachal Pradesh gained momentum with the visit of the 14th Dalai Lama to the state earlier this month. Beijing had opposed the visit of the Tibetan Spiritual leader to the state and warned the Indian government of serious consequences if it permitted him to do so.
Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman announced that she would adopt Kalena Agrahara Lake near Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru. Sitharaman said that she hopes to rejuvenate the lake with funds from MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and also with the help of local authorities and Karnataka Lake Development Authority.
Union Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh said that his Ministry will soon announce the steel policy in the country for which the draft had already been put on the public domain. Addressing a pressing conference to conclude his two-day visit to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant yesterday, he said the Steel Ministry has received several suggestions and important among them would be incorporated in the draft. It will be placed before the Cabinet for approval.
The government on Sunday denied any involvement of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) or the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in restricting foreign supermodels from entering Taj Mahal wearing saffron scarves. A statement by the Culture and Tourism Ministry stated, "It appears that these people getting the scarves removed could either be guides or members of their group."

The India Post released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Coffee as a Fragrance Stamp in Bengaluru. The stamp was jointly released by Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister of State for Communications Manoj Sinha. After releasing the postage stamp, Nirmala Sitharaman thanked the department of Posts for releasing the stamp and printing one lakh stamps in the denomination of Rs 100. These fragrance stamps will be available for sale at Bengaluru GPO, Mysuru, Mangaluru and Belgaum Philately Bureaus and other head post offices in the state from the date of its release. She also said that such cross coordination between the Coffee and Postal Departments would go a long way in promoting coffee for which India was known as a major producer of specialised flavours of the beverage bean.

Afghanistan: Defense Minister & Army Chief resign following Taliban attack
In Afghanistan, Defense Minister Abdullah Habibi and the country’s Army Chief Qadam Shah Shahim have reportedly resigned following a recent deadly attack by the Taliban militants. The Afghan presidential palace announced in a post on its Twitter account that President Ashraf Ghani had today accepted their resignations. As many 140 Afghan soldiers were killed on Friday by Taliban attackers apparently disguised in military uniforms in what would be the deadliest attack ever on an Afghan military base, officials said. One official in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif, where the attack occurred, said on Saturday at least 140 soldiers were killed and many others wounded.

US astronaut Peggy Whitson breaks new space record
US astronaut Peggy Whitson has broken the record for most days in space. Dr Whitson already holds records for the most spacewalks carried out by a woman astronaut and is the first woman to command the International Space Station (ISS) twice. Now she's beaten the record previously set by Jeff Williams, who had a total of 534 days in space.
Nepal cabinet approves constitution amendment ,local polls agreement withSanghiya Gathbandhan
The Nepal cabinet has approved constitution amendment and local polls agreement with Sanghiya Gathbandhan, an alliance of Madeshi and Janjati parties. In a meeting held at Kathmandu today under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal cabinet also decided to hold local elections in two phases. The first phase elections will be held on May 14 in Province no. 3, 4 and 6. Polling for second phase will be held on June 14 in Province no. 1, 2, 5 and 7. The government has appealed main opposition party to support constitution amendment bill.

Google to introduce 'Copyless Paste' feature
Google on 23 April 2017 introduced the first code for its new feature ‘Copyless Paste’ in its Chrome app running on Android OS. The Copyless Paste feature will take data from Chrome usage and use that to improve the experience in other apps. Copyless Paste feature will automatically copy the useful information and will suggest it for pasting in apps where it might be relevant.

A new freight train connects Russia with China
A freight train connecting Russia with China arrived in Ganzhou an inland city in Jiangxi province, carrying goods from Moscow. The freight train travelled more than 7,000 km, before reaching Ganzhou in eastern China.This freight train connecting Russia and China is expected to bring resources from Europe and boost local development. Ganzhou is an inland area with a complex landscape and was a hot bed of revolutionary activities owing to its remote mountain ranges.

Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi was presented the P C Chandra Puraskar.Satyarthi was honoured with the award for his global crusade against child slavery and exploitative child labour.The 63-year-old Satyarthi was handed over a citation, a trophy and a cheque of Rs 10 lakh at an awards ceremony in Kolkata.
Goldman Environmental Prize for Prafulla Samantra
Social activist Prafulla Samantra was announced one among six winners of the Goldman Environmental Prize for his “historic 12-year legal battle that affirmed the indigenous Dongria Kondh’s land rights and protected the Niyamgiri Hills from a massive, open-pit aluminum ore mine.” The other five winners for this year are: Mark Lopez (United States); Uroš Macerl (Slovenia); Rodrigo Tot (Guatemala); Rodrigue Katembo (Democratic Republic of Congo); and Wendy Bowman (Australia).
Newton wins best film honour at Hong Kong International Film Festival
Bollywood film "Newton" has won the best film honour at the Hong Kong International Film Festival. The lead actor of the film RajKumar Rao took to tweeter to announce the feat. Amit Masurkar-directed "Newton", which also stars Anjali Patil, is a political satire. It had its world premiere at the 67th Berlin Film Festival where it won the International Federation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) award in its Forum segment.

National Youth Athletics Meet: Haryana beat Kerala to win team championship
Haryana beat arch rivals Kerala after six years to win the team championship at the National Youth Athletics Meet, which concluded at G.M.C. Balayogi Stadium in Hyderabad yesterday. Haryana emerged champions with overall 166.5 points including girls and boys performance. Kerala, finished as runners-up managing 134.75 points. However, Kerala retained the team crown for girls with 100 points, while Haryana boys topped with 108.5 points at the end of the three day meet.
MCC offers honourary life membership to former captain of Indian women's Testteam
The Marylebone Cricket Club, MCC, has offered honourary life membership to Sandhya Agarwal, former captain of the Indian women's Test team. A resident of Indore, Agarwal has played 13 Tests and 21 ODIs from 1984 to 1995. Agarwal is being honoured in recognition of her distinguished service to the game. After her retirement, she continued to contribute to the game as a selector and coach, besides being a member of the BCCI's women's committee. Presently, she is the chairperson of girl's Under-19 and senior women's team of MPCA.
