Nation remembers BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary

Nation remembers Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, chief architect of Indian constitution, today on his 126th birth anniversary. President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes at Babasaheb’s Statue in the Parliament House Complex this morning. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar, chief architect of the Constitution of India, was born on 14th April 1891 at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh, which is now known as Dr Ambedkar Nagar. He was also the first law minister of India.
PM Modi to launch several crucial initiatives to further digital payments revolution in country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Nagpur today on Ambedkar Jayanti. Immediately after arrival at airport, he would proceed to sacred Deekshabhoomi and pay tributes to the Architect of Indian Constitution Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at the Central Memorial on his birth anniversary. He is scheduled to release two special commemorative postal stamps - one depicting Deekshabhoomi in its full glory and the other with twin pictures of Lord Gautam Buddha and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar at another function in the city.
Railways had highest corruption complaints in 2016: CVC

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has said that over 11,000 corruption-related complaints were received against Railways officials, the highest among all government departments in 2016. Further, the total complaints also rose by 67% in 2016 from the previous year, the CVC added. The watchdog had received a total of 49,847 complaints in 2016.

Guj Guv clears bill proposing life term for cow slaughter

Gujarat Governor OP Kohli on Thursday approved the bill proposing life term for the slaughter of cows, calves, bulls and bullocks and up to ten years imprisonment for transporting beef in the state. Furthermore, the bill also proposes the vehicles used for transportation of beef shall be confiscated permanently, while the present law allows their confiscation for six months.

SC pulls up Tamil Nadu govt over farmers' suicides

The Supreme Court has pulled up Tamil Nadu government over farmers' suicides and said it cannot leave the poverty-struck agriculturalists at the mercy of their fate. A bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra yesterday issued notice to the state government and sought its response within two weeks on the plea filed by Tamil Nadu-based NGO. The bench also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and M M Shantanagoudar also asked the government to come up with certain schemes and measures before it.

Odisha celebrates Pana Sankranti today

On the occasion of Maha Vishuba Sankranti, also known as Pana Sankranti, all temples across the Odisha witness beeline of devotees since this morning to have darshan of the deities on the beginning of the Odia New Year. Bhopal to have India's first privately-run railway station

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that for the first time in Indian Railways' history, Habibganj station in Bhopal has been handed over to a private firm to be operated by it. The station building will be developed in line with airport terminals, he added. However, Prabhu clarified that trains at the station will still be run by the Railways.

Telangana to extend financial assistance to farmers for fertilisers

Telangana state government has announced a financial assistance of 4 thousand rupees per acre to farmers towards purchasing fertilizers. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao announced this in Hyderabad last evening at an interaction with farmers at his camp office. He further said 4 thousand rupees will be directly transferred to the farmers’ bank accounts before the end of May every year from next financial year onwards. He also said a proper system is being worked out for smooth implementation of the scheme. He asked farmers to form into associations at village level to monitor its implementation at the grass roots level.

US drops biggest non-nuclear bomb in Afghanistan: Pentagon

The US military dropped its largest non-nuclear bomb ever deployed in combat on an Islamic State tunnel complex in eastern Afghanistan, close to the Pakistani border. Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump said, a GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), nicknamed Mother Of All Bombs, was dropped on a tunnel complex of ISIS-Khorasan, a regional affiliate of the terror group, in Achin district of Afghanistan's Nanagarh province. US President Donald Trump said he authorised the use of the bomb in Afghanistan.

India, Russia strategic partnership important for international security, stability: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that further strengthening of strategic partnership between Russia and India was important for international security and meets the fundamental interests of people of the two countries. Mr Putin said in his message of greetings to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of 70th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Russia, that the two countries maintain close positions on key global and regional affairs and efficiently coordinate their efforts at multinational organisations, such as the UN and BRICS.

Russia vetoes UN probe of Syria gas attack

Russia vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution demanding that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government cooperate with its probe into the Idlib chemical attack. It was the eighth time during Syria's six-year civil war that Russia used its veto power to shield Assad's government. Bolivia joined Russia in going against the resolution, while China, Kazakhstan, and Ethiopia abstained.

New Zealanders evacuated from parts of coast as storm hits

In New Zealand, hundreds of people have been evacuated from some coastal areas as the second major storm in just over a week made landfall near the North Island town of Whakatane. Weather authorities had said the country is potentially facing the worst storm since 1968, but residents of the nation's largest city Auckland, breathed a sigh of relief as the remnants of Cyclone Cook moved past them to the east. Authorities had feared the storm could hit the city and cause major problems. A state of emergency remained in effect for the Bay of Plenty and the Thames-Coromandel district.

Mahmoud Abbas seeks 'unprecedented' steps to end Palestinian split

Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas has said that he is taking unprecedented steps to end the political division in Palestine. Quoting the statement of Mr Abbas, official WAFA news agency said, the President is going to take these steps in coming days to end the division between his West Bank-based autonomy Government and the Hamas-run Gaza Strip. However, Mr Abbas has not mentioned details of measures being taken for unity of all groups of Palestinians.

Industrial output slips to 4-month low

The country's industrial output slipped to a 4-month low, as it contracted 1(point)2 per cent in February this year. Industrial output fell mainly on account of a decline in the manufacturing sector, and lower offtake of capital and consumer goods. The Index of Industrial Production, IIP, had grown 1.99 per cent in February last year.
India's exports grow by 27.6% in March, compared to same period last year

India's exports grew by 27 point 6 per cent to 29 point 23 billion dollars in March this year as compared to same period in last year. It grew on account of robust performance by sectors like petroleum, textiles, engineering goods and gems and jewellery.For the full fiscal 2016-17, exports witnessed a growth of 4.71 per cent at 274.64 billion dollar against 262.3 billion in 2015-16.
Cabinet approves listing of 11 CPSEs on stock exchanges

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for listing of 11 Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) on stock exchanges. They include Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, Indian Railway Finance Corporation Limited, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) Limited, Bharat Dynamics Limited and IRCON International Limited. The listing of CPSEs will be done through public offer of shares upto 25 per cent of Government shareholding, which may include offer of fresh shares for raising of resources from market. However, actual disinvestment in respect of each CPSE alongwith the mode of raising resources has been delegated for decision on a case to case basis to the Alternative Mechanism, headed by the Finance Minister.
India's foreign exchange surges to 369.95 billion US dollars

India's foreign exchange surged by a whopping 2(point)02 billion US dollars to 369(point)95 billion US dollars in the week that ended on 31st of March 2017. A RBI press release has informed that foreign currency assets, a major part of the overall reserves rose by 2.08 billion US dollars to 346.32 billion US dollars. In the previous week too, the reserves had shot up by 1.15 billion US dollars to 367.93 billion US dollars.
10 Indian states have GDP equal to that of a country
There are ten Indian states whose Gross Domestic Product (GDP) matches with that of countries. The most populous state in the country Uttar Pradesh has a GDP of $553 billion, which is similar to Algeria. Tamil Nadu's GDP is similar to that of the United Arab Emirates while Maharashtra's GDP of $961 billion is similar to that of Poland.
eNAM transacts record ₹15,000 Cr business in one year
The national agriculture market- eNAM has transacted a record 15 thousand crore rupees business in one year. In April last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched National Agriculture Market portal eNAM to connect e-mandis in several States. Additional Secretary of Agriculture Ministry Ashok Dalwai said this after holding the review meeting of Agricultural market reforms and other initiatives to enhance farmers’ income in New Delhi today.

NASA reveals new insights on 'Ocean Worlds' in Solar System
NASA has revealed new details from its missions exploring "ocean worlds" in the Solar System. NASA said that at least three moons of Jupiter: Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto possess vast oceans beneath their icy crust. Further, clouds containing hydrogen on Saturn's moon Enceladus showed it had nearly all ingredients for habitability. The missions aim to identify habitable worlds beyond Earth.

7th Junior National Hockey Championship begins in Bhopal
The Seventh Junior National Hockey Championship begins in Bhopal today. 86 teams will take part in the one month long event, which is being held for under-19 boys and girls. Teams have been divided in two pools “A” and “B” for both boys and girls.
