World Homoeopathy Day - 10th April

Greetings to medical and health professionals, the scientific community, patients and to the general public spread across 7 continents – a wonderful “World Homeopathy Day” on 10th April 2017 on account of the founder and father of Homeopathy Dr. Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann’s 262nd birthday (born 1755, Germany). Every year 10th April is celebrated all over the world as ‘World Homeopathy Day as a tribute to Hahnemann. Medical doctors and patients of over 42 countries are joining together on 10th April for celebrations. The week following the birth date of Hahnemann i.e. 10th April is celebrated as World Homeopathy Awareness Week .
Trees planted by Bihar police stations to promote prohibition :

All the police stations in Bihar will be planting fruit-bearing saplings in the premises from April 20 to create awareness against liquor and promote prohibition in the state. According to state director general of police (DGP) PK Thakur, Vaishali boy Ratan Ranjan had proposed the idea of 'Ek ped sharadbandi ke liye' (a tree for prohibition).

Pink police patrol vehicles launched in Bengaluru for women :

The Bengaluru Police have launched 51 'Pink Hoysalas', the new patrol vehicles, to address complaints related to women and child safety. The Pink Hoysalas will function based on complaints registered through the Suraksha App or intimation to the police control room number and will have at least three women police personnel. The city police currently have 221 regular Hoysalas.
Proposal made on denying govt jobs by Assam govt for those with over 2 kids :

The Assam government's draft population policy proposes that people with more than two children should be denied government jobs. The two-child norm would also be applicable for all candidates in elections conducted by the state election commission. The draft also proposed that all girls in the state be given free education up to university level.

Cheap food canteen 'Annapurna Bhojnalayas' planned to launch by UP govt :

The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to emulate Tamil Nadu's 'Amma canteen' by providing breakfast for ₹3 and lunch for ₹5 to the economically weak, according to reports. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to sit through a presentation on 'Annapurna Bhojnalayas' by the Labour Ministry officials on April 12, seeking to provide subsidised meals.

Web Portal 'Bharat Ke Veer' launched to donate money to martyred CRPF jawans' family :

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday launched website 'Bharat Ke Veer' to facilitate monetary contribution to martyred CRPF jawans' families. The initiative is actor Akshay Kumar's brainchild, and it is available both as a web portal and mobile application. The funds would be managed by a committee of eminent persons and officials, who would disburse it on a need basis.
Mahatma Gandhi exhibition launched by PM Modi, marking 100 yrs of Champaran Satyagraha :

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Champaran Satyagraha was a historic mass movement led by Mahatma Gandhi and its impact was phenomenal. In a series of tweet, Mr Modi said, that he will inaugurate an exhibition titled 'Swachhagraha - Bapu Ko Karyanjali' to mark 100 years of the historic Champaran Satyagraha today in New Delhi.
The Prime Minister said, the exhibition will showcase Champaran Satyagraha and it will connect essential principles of Satyagraha with Swachhagraha. He said, the exhibition will also showcase the ground covered by the Swachh Bharat Mission in creating a mass movement towards a clean India.
President hosts banquet in honour of Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina :

President Pranab Mukherjee today hosted a banquet in the honour of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Rashtrapati bhawan. Those present at the banquet included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, members of the Union Cabinet, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The banquet was preceded by a cultural programme at Ashoka Hall of Rastrapati Bhavan. Earlier in the day, Ms Hasina met the President at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Delegation level talks held between PM Modi and Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull :
India and Australia today inked six agreements in areas including combating terrorism, civil aviation security, sports, health and medicine and satellite navigation. The pacts were signed after delegation talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in New Delhi.
Earlier this morning, the visiting dignitary was accorded ceremonial reception at the forecourts of Rashtrapati Bhavan in the morning. He also visited Rajghat, to pay floral tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

CBI bank Customer Wins 1Cr in Government's Digital Payments Scheme :
A transaction of Rs. 1,590 has won a Central Bank of India customer a lucky bounty of Rs. 1 crore under the government's promotional scheme to popularise digital payments. President Pranab Mukherjee picked up the lucky winners from the 100th draw of lots under digital payments promotion schemes at Rashtrapati Bhavan here. The President congratulated the six winners - three consumers and three merchants - of Lucky Grahak Yojana and Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana.
In the consumer section, the first mega prize of Rs. 1 crore went to a customer of Central Bank of India, while the second prize of Rs. 50 lakh went to a Bank of Baroda customer. A customer of Punjab National Bank was the winner of the third prize of Rs. 25 lakh.

G-7 Foreign Ministers meeting held today in Italy :
Foreign Ministers from the Group of Seven major industrialized nations (G-7) will hold a meeting in Italy today. The civil war in Syria is likely to dominate talks in the two day summit in the northwestern city of Lucca , with Italy hoping for a final communique that will reinforce United Nations' efforts to end six years of conflict. The fight against terrorism is also expected to be high on the agenda.
The meeting comes as the United States moves a Navy strike group near the Korean peninsula amid concerns over North Korea's nuclear ambitions, and as the West's relations with Russia struggle to overcome years of mistrust.The Group of 7 (G7) consists Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Indian-origin Anuja Ravindra Dhir becomes 1st non-white judge at a London court :
Indian-origin Anuja Ravindra Dhir has become the first non-white circuit judge at the Old Bailey, the central criminal court of England and Wales. Currently also the youngest judge at the court, Anuja was called to the bar in 1989. In an interview, the 49-year-old said she has often been mistaken for a witness or defendant after entering the legal profession.
Smita Sandhane sworn in as new MD of Saraswat Co-operative Bank :
Saraswat Co-operative Bank on Saturday said Smita Sandhane has taken charge as Managing Director of the bank with effect from April 1. She is the first woman chief of India's largest urban co-operative bank. Prior to her elevation, Sandhane was the Joint Managing Director of the bank. She has been with the bank since 1982. Sandhane has taken over from S.K. Banerji, who retired from the services of the bank on March 31, 2017. Banerji is now an Advisor to the bank's board.

'Gandhi in Champaran' book released by Venkaiah Naidu in Delhi :
Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today released the book- Gandhi in Champaran at a function in New Delhi. The book has been written by noted author D G Tendulkar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naidu said, he is happy to launch the heritage publications on the day that marks the 100th year of Champaran Satyagraha. He said, life of Mahathma Gandhi is a valuable lesson of humanity, compassion and determination to achieve the desired goal through non-violence and inclusiveness.

Indian Women's Hockey team won World League Round 2 final in Canada :
Indian team was crowned champions of the Women's Hockey World League Round 2 on Sunday after defeating Chile on penalties in the tournament final in Canada. Indian goalkeeper Savita Punia was adjudged the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Both India and Chile qualify for the Women's Hockey World League semi-finals scheduled to take place from July 8 to July 22.
Hamilton won his fifth Chinese Grand Prix by beating Vettel :
Mercedes' British Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton defeated Ferrari's four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel to lift his fifth title at the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday. Red Bull teammates Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo finished third and fourth respectively in Shanghai. Force India's Sergio Pérez finished the race in the ninth place.

US, Canada & Mexico to launch joint FIFA World Cup 2026 bid :
Football federations of US, Canada and Mexico appear set to launch a joint bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Federations said, they will make a historic announcement in New York tomorrow. President of the Canadian Federation, Victor Montagliani said, a joint bid for the 2026 World Cup between the three countries was being discussed.
FIFA will designate a host for the 2026 edition in 2020. US had last organised the World Cup in 1994. Mexico has hosted the event twice, in 1970 and 1986. There has been only one World Cup hosted by multiple nations, the 2002 edition in Japan and South Korea. The 2026 World Cup will expand to 48 teams from 32.
