Learning Sanskrit till class 8 made compulsory by Assam govt :

The Assam government has decided to make Sanskrit compulsory up to Class 8 in all schools across the state. The government also decided to appoint a computer teacher in all high schools in Assam. "Teachers will be appointed in high schools under Swachh Bharat Mission and will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness," state Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary added.

Instrumental music to be played in Delhi Metro on Airport route :

The Delhi Metro is planning to play instrumental music in its stations on the New Delhi-Dwarka Airport Line. An official said the decision was taken after a public survey revealed that 80% people wanted light music in stations. The Metro, which has applied for the required license, will introduce music on other stations and inside trains based on users' feedback.
Mid-day meal scheme for girls got extended up to Class 12 by Delhi govt :

The Delhi Government has extended the mid-day meal scheme for girls up to class 12, reportedly making it the first state in the country to do so, the city-state government claimed. The scheme will be applicable from April. The AAP government will set aside ₹50 crore for extending the scheme, which currently covers all students till class 8.

The price of Non-subsidised LPG cylinder hiked by ₹86 :

State-owned oil companies raised the price of non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) by a steep ₹86 per cylinder on Wednesday. A 14.2 kg cylinder will now cost ₹737.50 as against ₹651.50 earlier in Delhi. The hike was in “line with the rise in global LPG product prices,” an official statement read.
Andhra govt preparing to initiate airline named after state capital 'Amaravathi' :

The Andhra Pradesh government is planning to launch an airline, named after the state's capital Amaravathi, an official in the N Chandrababu Naidu-led government said. The initiative is aimed at bringing global exposure to the upcoming city and boost the state's aviation sector, the official added. The state government may also like to have its own international airport, he added.

EPFO made Aadhaar card compulsory for final settlement of Pension claims :
Employees' Provident Fund Organisation, EPFO has clarified that furnishing of Aadhaar is mandatory for final settlement of pension claims. EPFO reiterated in a statement that the requirement of submitting Aadhaar is not insisted for the time being, only in withdrawal benefit cases under Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995.
Furnishing of Aadhaar is still mandatory for final settlement of pension and scheme certificate cases. The EPFO had extended the date of submission of Aadhaar Number authentication by the members of Employees’ Pension Scheme upto 31st of March.
Discussion on bilateral ties held between Foreign Sec S Jaishankar and US NSA :
Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar has met US National Security Advisor Lt Gen HR McMaster and discussed among other things counter-terrorism, bilateral relations and ways to take Indo-US ties forward. The meeting between Dr Jaishankar and Lt Gen McMaster gains significance as the top military leader was appointed as the National Security Advisor by US President Donald Trump ten days ago.
During the meeting held at the White House, the two officials are believed to have discussed issues related to security relationship, counter-terrorism, and defence partnership.

Officials from India and Oman met on enhancing defence ties :
India and Oman have explored ways to enhance cooperation between their navies during the talks of Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba with top defence brass of the strategically important Gulf nation. Navy Chief Admiral, who arrived in Oman on the second leg of his two-nation tour, called on Oman's Defence Minister Bader al Busaidi and held extensive discussions with Commander of Royal Navy of Oman, Rear Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis Al Raisi today.
The two sides deliberated on ramping up cooperation between their navies in the backdrop of the fast evolving security scenario in the region. According to the government sources, Navy Chief also held talks with Chief of Royal Air Force of Oman Mattar Al Obaidani on issues of strategic interests to both the countries.

Two health institutes planned by Haryana govt on the names of  Kalpana Chawla and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya :
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has clarified that the State Government is setting up two health institutes, a Medical College named after Astronaut Kalpana Chawla and a Medical University named after Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhaya in Karnal district.
Chief Minister was responding to the statements made by members of Congress party about changing the name of the University being set up at village Kutail in district Karnal in State Assembly yesterday.

InternationalBoat racing event got clearance from HC of Mumbai :
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday gave its nod to an international power boat racing event slated to be held in the city later this week. The court also told the state government that it should rise above petty disputes and encourage such events.
A division bench of justices V M Kanade and P R Bora was hearing a plea filed by a sporting events company, which is organizing the motorboat race from March 3 to 5 among seven teams along a 5.2-km course off the Marine Drive bay in south Mumbai.

2 day Nepal Investment Summit 2017 starts today in Kathmandu :
Two day Nepal Investment Summit 2017 has begun at Kathmandu and inaugurating the summit Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that his government is focusing on creating conducive investment opportunities in the country. President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Mr Jin Liqun has addressed the summit.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitely will deliver key note address at the summit in the evening. President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Mr Jin Liqun will also address the summit. Around 250 delegates from more than 20 countries including India are participating in the two day summit.

Issuing of visa-free entry for North Koreans to be cancelled by Malaysia :
Malaysia has decided to cancel visa-free entry for North Koreans. Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said in Kuala Lumpur that visa-free entry for North Koreans entering the country is cancelled from March 6, due to security reasons. He said North Koreans will be required to obtain a visa before entering Malaysia for national security reasons.
The move comes two weeks after Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, was killed at the Kuala Lumpur airport with a toxic nerve agent. South Korea and U.S. say he was assassinated by agents of the North Korean regime.

Post 4 transactions per month to be charged Rs.150 by HDFC, ICICI, Axis banks :
HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank have started charging a minimum of ₹150 per transaction for cash deposits and withdrawals beyond four free transactions in a month. The banks will charge ₹5 per thousand rupees or ₹150, whichever is higher, after the free transactions. The banks reportedly said there has been no directive from the government in this regard.

MoU signed between Odisha Govt and Invest India on encouraging start-ups :
To promote start-ups in the state, the Odisha government has signed an agreement with Invest India, the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency of the Union ministry of commerce and industries.
A toll-free start up helpline, 1800-345-7100, was launched on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister, said Startup Odisha Initiative and Startup India Hub run by the Invest India will help us in achieving the Mission-1000 Startups by the year 2020 and help the youth in realising their dreams.

Kohli to be first to named as India's best int'l cricketer for the 3rd time :
Virat Kohli has been named India's best international cricketer of the year by the BCCI, making him the first player to win the top honour three times. He will be presented the award, which is named after veteran cricketer Polly Umrigar, at the annual award ceremony on March 8. Kohli had won the award earlier in 2011-12 and 2014-15.

India captain Virat Kohli was today nominated for the prestigious Polly Umrigar award while all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin named for the Dilip Sardesai award.
The awards will be presented at the BCCI Annual Awards to be held in Bengaluru on 8th March. Kohli becomes the first Indian cricketer to get Polly Umrigar award on the third occasion after 2011-12 and 2014-15 season.

JS Deepak appointed as India's next Ambassador to WTO :
Telecom Secretary J S Deepak was today named India's next Ambassador to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) from June this year. A 1982 batch IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh, Deepak, who is at present attending the World Mobile Congress at Barcelona, has been shifted from the telecom ministry and has been made Officer on Special Duty in the commerce department.
During his earlier stint in the Commerce Ministry, he was India's chief negotiator at the WTO and for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement.

Vice President Hassan Saleh steps in for the newly-created Prime Minister post of Sudan :
Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir named his first Vice President and long-time ally Hassan Saleh to the newly-created post of Prime Minister.  The ruling party's Deputy Leader Ibrahim Mahmoud said yesterday in a meeting chaired by President Bashir approved the nomination of Hassan
Saleh as prime minister and his retention of the post of first Vice President. Saleh will be sworn in today and immediately start negotiations on forming a new cabinet.

India U-17 football team gets Luis Norton de Matos as its new head coach :
The AIFF today appointed Portugal's Luis Norton de Matos as the head coach of the India Under-17 team for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to be held in October this year.
A former manager with the Benfica Reserve side, De Matos replaces Nicolai Adam, who was forced to resign under controversial circumstances after a revolt from the players.

World Women's Chess Championship 2017 Harikawins bronze :
Indian grandmaster Harika Dronavalli has won a bronze medal at the 2017 Women's World Chess Championship in Tehran. Harika lost to China's Tan Zhongyi in a semi-final tie-breaker to settle for bronze for the third time in a row. Harika attained the title of Grandmaster in 2011 and is ranked eighth in the world among female players.
Wildcard entry offered for Maria Sharapova in Italian Open :
Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova has been given a wildcard to play in the Italian Open in May. Organisers announced this on Twitter today. Sharapova is a three-time Rome champion.
The former world number one makes her return to the circuit in Stuttgart in April after completing a 15-month ban for doping. Sharapova hasn't played on tour since testing positive for meldonium at the 2016 Australian Open. An initial two-year ban by the International Tennis Federation was reduced to 15 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
