Gym launched in Nagaland for police personnel by IndiGo :

IndiGo on Monday launched a gym for police personnel in Dimapur, Nagaland. The gym, part of IndiGo's FitToFly programme, is equipped with multi-purpose machines and treadmills. IndiGo President Aditya Ghosh said, "Setting up gyms for police personnel is an important move to encourage them to start making choices to live a healthier life by choosing to be holistically fit."

Online Film Certification System 'e-CinePramaan' launched by Govt :

The Union government on Monday launched 'e-CinePramaan', the Online Film Certification System of the Central Board of Film Certification. This will make the process for films to obtain a certificate fully digital and will include QR Codes to check fraudulent certificates. "A highlight of online film certification is elimination of middlemen and of corruption," said I&B Minister M Venkaiah Naidu.

Odisha becomes first state to bring banking to remote rural areas through SHG :

Odisha has became the first state in the country to carry financial inclusion and extend banking services to unbanked areas through Self Help Groups. The state government has signed an agreement with State Bank of India to provide banking facilities to people in unbanked areas. In the first phase SHGs would be engaged as Banking Correspondents in around 1,000 remote Gram Panchayats having no banking facilities.
Gradually it would be extended to 4,000 non-banked panchayats. Sources said the system would be of great help to people in rural areas under social security schemes like Pradhan Mantri Bima Surakshya Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana etc and would also be helpful in promotion of digital banking.

Maharashtra celebrating Marathi New year Gudi Padwa with full enthusiasm
Gudi Padwa, the first day of the Marathi New year is being celebrated with enthusiasm and joy all over Maharashtra. In Mumbai, suburbs like Dombivali, Girgaon, Dadar and Thane celebrate Gudi Padwa uniquely with large processions where people in traditional attire dance on the tunes of bands. Also, women dressed in nine-yards sarees called nauvaris ride bikes holding flags in hands. Lezim performances and Tarpa dances are some of the highlights of these processions.
Our Correspondent Gudi Padwa, the first day of Hindu calendar is celebrated to mark the beginning of the New year in Maharshtra. This festival marks the onset of Vasant rutu, the Spring season.

Himachal Pradesh celebrating Chaitra Navratri festival with full devotion & enthusiasm
In Himachal Pradesh, the Chaitra Navratri festival is being celebrated with full devotion and enthusiasm. Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Authorities in Una, Bilaspur and Kangra Districts have made elaborate arrangements for pilgrims coming from different parts of the country. Special religious programmes are underway in the temples.
Our correspondent reports that this small hill state have five historical Shaktipeeths of Godess Durga named Chintpurni, Naina Devi, Jawalamukhi, Bajreshwari Devi and Chamunda Devi.

UN’s conf on banning nuclear weapons to be boycott by India, US, Britain, France :
The United Nations conference to ‘negotiate a legally binding instrument to prohibit nuclear weapons, leading towards their total elimination’ took off at the UN headquarters in New York on 27 March 2017. The meeting was attended by more than 100 countries.
The United States, leading a coalition of more than 40 countries including Britain and France boycotted the talks. India too chose to skip the meeting. The decision was taken independently by New Delhi by taking into account the nation’s own interests but it would, however, be closely monitoring the developments at the conference.

Petroleum pact renewed between India-Nepal :
India and Nepal on 27 March 2017 signed an agreement to renew the supply of petroleum to Nepal for five years. The renewed MoU was signed between Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) for another five years. The Indian Oil has been supplying petroleum and associated products to Nepal since 1974.

ICICI Bank partners Truecaller to launch ‘Truecaller Pay’ for UPI-based mobile payment :
ICICI Bank has partnered with Truecaller to launch a UPI-based mobile payment service called ‘Truecaller Pay’.  It will allow users of the Truecaller app to instantly create a UPI id, send money to any UPI id or a mobile number registered with the BHIM app. It will also enable users to recharge their mobile number from within the app itself.
Any user of Truecaller app, including non-ICICI Bank customers can link their bank account of any bank (participating in UPI) to create a UPI id and instantly make payments.

Tax on wheat and tur imports of 10% brought back by Govt :
Government on Tuesday imposed a 10 per cent import tax on wheat with immediate effect, sources said, reinstating the tariff after a gap of nearly four months that saw large overseas purchases. The government wants to curb imports when Indian farmers are starting to harvest their crops, said three sources directly involved in deciding on the issue. They declined to be identified as they were not authorised to speak on the matter.
Earlier this month, government sources had said New Delhi could impose a 25 percent import tax on wheat. India, the world's second-biggest wheat producer, lowered the import tax on wheat to 10 percent from 25 percent last September and scrapped the duty on December 8.

Vijaya Bank on Monday entered into an MoU with Piaggio Vehicles for providing financial support for the purchase of vehicles under Small Road Transport Operators (SRTO) scheme in Bengaluru.

Indian-American Vanita Gupta named as president of 'Leadership Conference' :
Indian-American Vanita Gupta, who headed civil rights division in the Department of Justice in the Obama Administration, has been appointed as President and CEO of 'The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights', becoming the first woman to head the prestigious organisation. Known for her fearless advocacy of all human beings, 41-year-old Vanita will replace Wade Henderson who is stepping down after more than two decades. Vanita, who will also lead its sister organisation 'The Leadership Conference Education Fund', will begin her new role on June 1.
Rana Kanwar Pal elected speaker of Punjab Assembly :
Congress nominee Rana Kanwar Pal Singh was unanimously elected speaker of Punjab Assembly today. The name of Anandpur Sahib legislator was proposed by Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. However, the Aam Admi Party and its ally Lok Insaf Party staged a walk out during the process of speaker's election, demanding a debate on the Governor's address.

Indian cricket team presented with Test mace award by ICC :
Team India was given the ICC Test mace and a $1 million cheque (₹6.5 crore) by former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar for being the number one Test team. ICC awards the annual cash prize to the team holding the number one rank on April 1. The side to finish second will get $500,000 while the side finishing third will receive $200,000.

Vietnam Open International challenger badminton men's doubles title won by Satwiksairaj & Chirag :
Promising Indian men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty has clinched the 20,000 US Dollar Vietnam Open International challenger badminton title. In the summit clash at Hanoi yesterday, the sixth seeded Indian pair defeated the fifth seeded Thai duo of Trawut Potieng and Nanthakam Yordphaisong in three games 17-21, 21-9, 21-15.
For the young Indian pair it was their maiden title this season, while fifth victory overall. They had won the Mauritius International Series, the India International Series, the India International Challenge and the Bangladesh International Challenge last season.
India won Border-Gavaskar Trophy test series 2-1 against Australia :
India defeated Australia by 8 wickets in the fourth Test at Dharamsala on Tuesday to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1. Australia had set India a target of 106, with three Indian bowlers picking up three-wicket hauls. Dharamsala Test is the first win for Ajinkya Rahane as India's captain, who was leading India for the first time in Virat Kohli's absence.

Kolkata to host India's first ever FIFA U-17 World Cup final :
Kolkata's iconic Salt Lake Stadium has been selected by FIFA to host the final of the Under-17 World Cup on October 28. The tournament will start in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai with the tournament's two opening matches being held on October 6. Notably, Guwahati and Navi Mumbai will host the semi-finals of the tournament.
Men's Hockey World Cup 2018 to be host in Bhubaneswar :
Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar will host the men's Hockey World League Final 2017 and World Cup 2018, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed on Monday. Odisha will be the title sponsor of both the events, with the official event titles being 'Odisha Men's Hockey World League Final Bhubaneswar 2017' and 'Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup Bhubaneswar 2018'.
Gurdev Singh Badal Former Punjab minister passes away :
Gurdev Singh Badal, former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader passed away at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana on March 28, 2017, following prolonged illness. He was 85. According to cardiologist Vishwmohan, Gurdev was a chronic cardiac  patient and he was admitted to the hospital on 9 March with multiple  problems. He is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Tehmtan R Andhyarujina an Eminent Jurist passes away :
Senior Advocate and eminent jurist Tehmtan R Andhyarujina passed away on 28 March 2017 following a brief illness. He was 84. He was widely regarded for his expertise in a branch of constitutional law relating to parliamentary privileges.
