President Pranab Mukherjee will be on a day-long visit to Rajgir in Nalanda district of Bihar. During his visit, Mr Mukherjee will address the closing ceremony of International Conference on Buddhism in the 21st century. Over 1,000 delegates from 35 countries, including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Singapore and Indonesia, are participating in the conference.

First fully India-made suburban train makes debut
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday flagged off the first fully India-made suburban train 'Medha'. The train will save foreign exchange worth ₹32 crore per rake along with 25% saving in the manufacturing cost. It can run at a maximum speed of 105 km per hour, and has been fitted with LED lights and GPS-based passenger information system.

Yogi Adityanath to take oath as UP CM today, PM Modi to attendceremony
BJP leader Yogi Aditya Nath will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh today, governor Ram Naik will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Aditya Nath and his Cabinet at a function in Lucknow's Kanshiram memorial ground. State BJP President Keshav Prasad Maurya and the party's National Vice-President Dinesh Sharma will be the Deputy Chief Ministers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Party President Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled States will attend the ceremony.

Centre initiates steps to implement the project of interlinking rivers in country
The Centre has initiated steps to implement the project of interlinking rivers in the country to make irrigation facilities available for unirrigated areas.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh said this while inaugurating the 3-day Agri-Leadership Summit at Surajkund near Faridabad yesterday. He said, a 20,000 crore rupees fund has been created under NABARD to improve irrigation facilities and the Centre has set a target of bringing more than 76 lakh hectares of land under irrigation by 2019.

Punjab to provide 33 percent reservation for women in govt jobs
Punjab cabinet has decided to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in all government jobs. The decision was taken in the first cabinet meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh at Chandigarh. The cabinet also decided to increase representation of women in the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies from the present 33 per cent to 50 per cent. A series of decisions were also taken for the benefit of freedom fighters.

Jat stir: Section 144 imposed, internet services suspended in Haryana
In Haryana, prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed and internet services suspended in many sensitive districts in the wake of Jaat agitators' plan to gherao Parliament. The districts include Ambala, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri and Hisar. Delhi Police has also decided to impose prohibitory orders in the national capital ahead of the proposed march.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said, the country can not grow on the path of development without the full participation of all the citizens. Addressing the India Today Conclave through Video Conferencing in New Delhi, Mr Modi said, it is important to connect the people in nation building and fulfill their aspirations. He said, the decision should not only be in national interest but they should be implemented on time.

G20 finance ministers drop anti-protectionist pledge
G-20 nations have dropped a long-standing anti-protectionist pledge and a vow on action against climate change, after opposition from the United States. The Finance ministers from the world's largest economies met in the southern German town of Baden-Baden, but failed to renew their pledge to bolster free trade. They issued a statement saying that they were working to strengthen the contribution of trade to their economies.
Senior UN official quits after 'apartheid' Israel report pulled
A senior UN official has resigned over the withdrawal of a report accusing Israel of imposing an apartheid regime on Palestinians, saying powerful member states pressured the world body and its Chief with vicious attacks and threats. United Nations Under-Secretary General and Executive Secretary for the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Rima Khalaf, announced her resignation at a news conference in Beirut after UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres asked for the report to be taken off the ESCWA website.

NASA honours singer Chuck Berry by sending his song to space
NASA paid tribute to late American singer-songwriter Chuck Berry by including his song 'Johnny B Goode' to 'Music from Earth' in the deep-space Voyager mission. The Voyager mission includes two probes launched 40 years ago, which have reached beyond the Solar System, carrying a 'Golden Record' containing selected sounds and images from Earth intended to communicate with probable extraterrestrials.
Two Indian clerics who went missing in Pakistan, traced, reached Karachi
The two Indian clerics of Delhi's Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah, who went missing in Pakistan, have been traced and have reached Karachi. This was conveyed by Pakistan's Foreign Affairs Ministry to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad yesterday. Sources said, the two clerics - Syed Asif Nizami, the head priest of the Dargah, and his nephew Nazim Nizami - reached Karachi last evening and will leave for India tomorrow.

Repair rural household economy to sustain growth: SBI chief
Calling for focussing on farm sector growth to sustain higher overall growth, the State Bank of India yesterday said revival in credit demand will stay low until the balance sheets of the rural households are repaired. SBI chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya told at a CII event that banks are facing two challenges-growth capital and asset quality concerns. The asset quality concerns are due to lack of demand and loans given during the boom years and both don’t seem to be improving in the medium term.

Agricultural growth rate expected to remain at 4.4% during this financial year: Radha Mohan Singh
Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today said that the agricultural growth rate is expected to remain at 4 (point) 4 per cent during this financial year. Replying to a discussion on the Demands for Grants of Agriculture Ministry for 2017-18, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said in the Lok Sabah that the NDA government has taken various steps for doubling of farmer’s income by 2022. He said, apart from focussing on agriculture sector, the government has paid adequate attention to the growth of allied sectors like fisheries and others.

Indian-American ranked fourth among overpaid CEOs in US
Sandeep Mathrani, the Indian-American CEO of property firm General Growth Properties, has been ranked fourth among the top 25 overpaid CEOs in the US, by non-profit organisation 'As You Sow'. Mathrani, with a total compensation of ₹257 crore in 2016, is overpaid by ₹170 crore, according to the report. Mass media company CBS' CEO Leslie Moonves has topped the list.
TDSAT refuses to stay Reliance Jio's free offer
The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal, TDSAT, today refused to stay Reliance Jio's free promotional offer, asking regulator TRAI to re-examine issues relating to the approval granted to the operator to continue with the freebies. The tribunal asked TRAI to present before it the findings of the examination within two weeks. TDSAT last week had reserved the order on an appeal seeking a stay on Reliance Jio's free offer after hearing all the parties concerned, including TRAI, telecom operators Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular, and newcomer Jio.
Two senior executives from Snapdeal quit
Two associate vice presidents at Snapdeal's innovation centre in Bengaluru, Balaji Hariharan and Hemanth Kota, have quit the e-commerce major. While Hariharan joined Snapdeal in February 2015 after working with Amazon and Microsoft, Kota joined Snapdeal in August 2015 after stints at Tesco and HP. In the past four months, Snapdeal has seen several senior executives quit the firm.

Rock and roll legend Chuck Berry passes away
Rock and roll legend Chuck Berry has died aged 90. Police said, the singer was found unresponsive at lunchtime in the State of Missouri. Berry's seven-decade career boasted a string of hits, including classics Roll Over Beethoven and Johnny B. Goode. He received a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1984 and was among the first inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
