India's 1st AC rail ambulance launched at Mumbai :
India's first air-conditioned rail ambulance was unveiled in Mumbai on Thursday. The Central Railway ambulance aims to provide victims of train accidents emergency treatment within the first hour, when chances of survival are highest. An official said the rail ambulance is capable of providing medical facilities to 50 patients at a time and transporting organs between states for transplants.
India's UN Women Goodwill Ambassador Aishwaryaa Dhanush performs Bharatanatyam at UN :
Aishwaryaa R Dhanush, the elder daughter of actor Rajinikanth, performed Bharatanatyam at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on the occasion of International Women's Day on Wednesday. Aishwaryaa, who is married to actor Dhanush, is also the UN Women's Goodwill Ambassador of India. Meanwhile, the event was organised by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN.

53 Indian fishermen set released by Sri Lankan govt as goodwill gesture :

Fifty-three Indian fishermen were released from a Sri Lankan jail on Friday, days after the two countries decided to release fishermen in each other's custody. The move was aimed at defusing tension following the killing of an Indian fisherman allegedly by the Sri Lankan navy. Another 32 Indian fishermen are still in custody in Vuvuniya jail, Fishery Ministry officials said.

Following TN, Coca-Cola and Pepsi products to be banned by Kerala traders :

Following Tamil Nadu, traders in Kerala have decided to stop sale of drinks produced by Coca-Cola and PepsiCo, to promote local beverages like lime soda. The boycott is in protest against exploitation of groundwater by the companies amid threats of a drought. Around seven lakh shops and traders will join the boycott, which will formally be announced on March 14.

Six subjects made mandatory for Class 10 board exams  :CBSE

The CBSE has made it mandatory for the students appearing for Class 10 board exams from next year to study six subjects instead of five. Currently, the Class 10 students have to study two languages along with social science, mathematics and science. However, it will be compulsory for Class 10 students to study a vocational subject from 2017-18 academic year.

India's largest waste-to-power plant opened at Narela-Bawana in New Delhi :

Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu today inaugurated the country's largest waste-to-power plant at Narela-Bawana in New Delhi. Inaugurating the 24 Mega Watt plant, Mr Naidu said without a scientific solid waste management system objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission cannot be achieved. He said solid waste management was one of the challenges in the country.
The Minister said the plant would not only dispose of 1,300 Metric Tonne waste on a daily basis but also produce compost and energy. Mr Naidu said, this plant can be taken as an example by other corporations to emulate the model.

Maternity Benefit Amendment Bill set passed in Lok Sabha :
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the passage of Maternity Benefit Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, calling it a landmark moment in the efforts towards women-led development. In a series of tweets, Mr Modi said, Maternity Benefit Amendment Bill ensures better health and wellbeing of the mother and child and increase in maternity leave is a welcome provision. He said, employment of women is protected through the Bill. He said, mandatory provision of crèche in offices is also laudable.
Pilot project on ornamental fisheries estimated over Rs 61 cr to be launched by Centre :
Centre will launch pilot project on ornamental fisheries with total outlay of over 61 crore rupees. The major objectives of the pilot project is to promote ornamental fish culture with cluster-based approach, to augment ornamental fisheries trade and export earnings and to create employment opportunities for the rural and periurban population.
Agriculture Ministry in a release said, a total of 8 potential States have been identified including Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Kerala. The project will be implemented by the National Fisheries Development Board through the Fisheries Departments of States and Union territories. Ornamental fishery, is a sub-sector of the fisheries sector dealing with breeding and rearing of coloured fish of both freshwater and marine water.
Legislative Council of Maharashtra suspends independent MLC Paricharak :
Maharashtra Legislative Council on Wednesday suspended independent MLC Prashant Paricharak from the House for one-and-a-half years for allegedly making derogatory remarks against families of soldiers.
The decision to suspend Paricharak comes after the Opposition stalled proceedings of the Upper House for three consecutive days demanding action against the BJP-backed legislator.

Arunachal Pradesh adopts private member resolution to formulate policy on teachers

Arunachal Pradesh Assembly has adopted a private member resolution to formulate a policy on recruitment and equitable distribution of teachers in schools in the state. Education Minister Honchun Ngandam replying to queries relating to shortage of teachers said that 1500 new teacher posts will be created very soon and sought the support of Chief Minister Pema Khandu in the matter. MLA Gabriel D Wangsu who moved the resolution said that many schools have been upgraded without creating new post which has resulted in the shortage of more than 2100 teachers in the state.

Haryana CM announce about opening of All India Institute of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy in state :

An All India Institute of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy will be opened at Mata Mansa Devi complex in Panchkula. This institute would be developed on the pattern of Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal informed the State Assembly today that Union Ministry of Ayush has approved this proposal. He said, Haryana Government has taken possession of the land for opening the institute.

Iceland became world's 1st country to make firms to prove equal pay :

Iceland became the first country in the world to force companies to prove they pay all employees the same, regardless of gender, sexuality or nationality. The country's government announced a new law that will require every company with 25 or more staff to get a certificate demonstrating pay equality. Notably, Iceland has pledged to eradicate gender pay gap by 2022.

EU decide to create headquarters for military training :

Member of the European Union have reached a deal to create headquarters for military training operations, a move aimed at developing a foreign and security policy independent of NATO and the United States. The first task of the headquarters, which will be located in Brussels, will be to streamline anti-terrorist efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali and Somalia.

Pak to amend constitution to set up military courts :

Pakistan government today introduced a constitutional amendment bill in Parliament to revive the controversial special military courts for trying hardcore militants.Apart from changes sought in the constitution to set up such courts, another bill was presented to seek amendment in the army law to enable military to regulate these courts.
Law Minister Zahid Hamid moved both the bills in the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament. Radio Pakistan reported that the Minister said on the occasion that in 2015, the parliament had passed two bills including Twenty-first (Amendment) Bill, 2015 and "The Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2015 to set up military courts to hear the cases of hardcore criminals.

India's industrial output rises 2.7% in January :

India's industrial output rose 2.7% in the month of January, shrugging off the impact of demonetisation, official data released on Friday stated. This was against the industrial output contracting by 0.4% in the previous month. The government's data for January further revealed that mining, manufacturing, and electricity also registered positive growth.
Indian-led startup raises ₹33cr to build salad-making robots
US-based food robotics startup Chowbotics, led by IIT Madras graduate Deepak Sekar, has raised $5 million (₹33 crore) for its salad-making robot 'Sally'. Techstars Ventures, Foundry Group, Galvanize Ventures and Geekdom Fund participated in the round. Sally lets users select from over 20 ingredients, displays the calorie count for selected ingredients and dispenses measured quantities into a bowl.

India successfully test fires supersoniccruise missile BrahMos :

India on Saturday successfully test-fired the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, which is capable of carrying a warhead of 300 kg, from a test range along the Odisha coast. The missile has already been inducted into the Army and Navy, while the Air Force version is in the final stage of its trial, DRDO officials said.

New Chief Justices appointed for high courts of Kerala, Chhattisgarh, MP, and Jharkhand :

The Chief Justices of Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand were appointed on Friday. Further, the government has informed the Parliament that 201 proposals by the collegium for appointment of judges in the high courts are at "various stages of processing". As of March 1, the 24 high courts were working with 642 judges, against the approved strength of 1079.

Rs. 1 crore awarded to Indian blind cricket team by BCCI :

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has awarded Rs. 1 crore to the Indian blind cricket team that won the Twenty20 World Cup last month by beating arch-rivals Pakistan in the title clash in Bengaluru. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators on February 25.

Indian football team slips 2 places in FIFA rankings

The Indian football team slipped two places to be at 132nd in the latest FIFA rankings issued yesterday. India secured 233 points, which is 11 lower than its previous month's total. Among the countries from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), India rose a place to 19th among 46 nations. Iran, ranked 33rd internationally, leads the way.
Among the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) members, India are comfortably placed the highest. Maldives are placed next. They are followed by Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan in that order.
