Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Growing insecurity in Afghanistan"
  • Insecurity - the state of being open to danger or threat (lack of protection)
  • Premises - the land and buildings owned by someone, especially by a company or organization
  • Underscores - to emphasize something, or to show that it is important
  • Suicide - the act of killing yourself intentionally
  • Reveal - to make known or show something that is surprising or that was previously secret
  • Capability - the number of weapons, soldiers etc that a country has for fighting a war
  • Outfit - an organization, especially a small firm
  • Condemn - to criticize something or someone strongly
  • Vowed - to make a determined decision or promise to do something
  • Rhetoric - speech or writing intended to be effective and influence people
  • Strategy - a plan or method for achieving something, especially over a long period of time
  • Inroads - direct and noticeable effects on something
  • Insurgent - someone who is fighting against the government in their own country
  • Troops - soldiers on duty in a large group
  • Civil war - a war fought by different groups of people living in the same country
  • Bloodiest - extremely violent and involving a lot of blood and injuries
  • Invasion - an occasion when an army or country uses force to enter and take control of another country
  • Territorial - relating to the land of a particular country
  • Overrun - to defeat an enemy in war and take the land that they control
  • Threatened - to tell someone that you will kill or hurt them or cause problems if they do not do what you want
  • Watchdog - a person or organization that works to stop people from doing illegal things in a particular area of business or society
  • Yielded -  to produce something useful such as information or evidence
  • Disclosure - the act of making something known or the fact that is made known
  • Drone - an aircraft that does not have a pilot but is controlled by someone on the ground, used especially for dropping bombs
  • Factionalism - arguments or fights between two or more small groups from within a larger group
  • Allegation - a statement, made without giving proof, that someone has done something wrong or illegal
  • Province - an area that is governed as part of a country or an empire
  • Caliphate - an Islamic state, especially one ruled by a single religious and political leader
  • Turn something around - to cause a situation or organization to change in a positive direction
  • Reform - to make an improvement
  • Combating - fighting
  • Ensure - to make something certain to happen

Hindu Editorial Topic 2 : "The revenge of the underdog"
  • Underdog - a person or group of people with less power, money, etc. than the rest of society
  • Angst - strong worry and unhappiness, especially about personal problems
  • Prompt - to make something happen
  • Regarded - to consider or have an opinion about something or someone
  • Unthinkable - so shocking that it cannot be imagined as possible
  • Revolt - to say that you will not accept someone’s authority or leadership
  • Die-hard - used for saying that it is difficult to change a way of behaving that someone has had for many years
  • Loyalist - a person or group that strongly supports the government or ruler in power
  • Benefactor - someone who gives money to help an organization, society, or person
  • Perceived - to come to an opinion about something, or have a belief about something
  • Archetypal - very typical of a particular type of person or thing
  • Feudal - outdated or old-fashioned.
  • Supplicant - someone who requests something from someone powerful or from God
  • Patrician - belonging to or typical of the highest social class
  • Bowing - to bend your head or body forward, especially as a way of showing someone respect
  • Unquestioningly - never doubting or criticizing
  • Legitimately - allowed by law
  • Leeway - freedom to act within particular limits
  • Put up - to raise something
  • Slavish - obeying completely and having no original thoughts or ideas
  • Obeisance - the fact of obeying or respecting someone, or something you do that expresses this
  • Turning against someone/something - to stop liking or supporting someone or something and to start opposing them
  • Protest - a strong complaint expressing disagreement, disapproval, or opposition
  • Invoke - to use a law in order to achieve something
  • Justify - to show that there is a good reason for something, especially something that other people think is wrong
  • Heir - someone who will receive money, property, or a title when another person dies
  • Inherit - o receive property or money from someone who has died
  • Mantle - the responsibilities of an important position or job, especially as given from the person who had the job to the person who replaces them
  • Disproportionate - if something is disproportionate, it is bigger or smaller than it should be in comparison to something else
  • Asset - something such as money or property that a person or company owns
  • Long-standing - having existed for a long time
  • Vulnerable - someone who is vulnerable is weak or easy to hurt physically or mentally
  • Cloak - something that hides, covers, or keeps something else secret
  • Invincibility - too strong to be defeated
  • Proximity - how near something is to another thing, especially in distance or time
  • Marginally - by only a very small amount
  • Niece - a daughter of your brother or sister, or a daughter of your husband's or wife's brother or sister
  • Legacy - money or property that you receive from someone after they die
  • Repercussion - the effect that an action, event, or decision has on something, especially a bad effect
  • Clutch - o take or try to take hold of something tightly, usually in fear, worry, or pain
  • Disenchanted - no longer believing in the value of something, especially having learned of the problems with it
  • Gravitate - to be attracted to or move toward something
  • Conviction - the fact of officially being found to be guilty of a particular crime
  • Revenge - something that you do to hurt or punish someone because they have hurt you
  • Implication - an occasion when you seem to suggest something without saying it directly
