Jaisalmer Desert Festival starts today in Sam Sand Dunes :
The three-day Desert Festival of Jaisalmer began today at Sam Sand Dunes. Organised by the Rajasthan government to promote tourism, the festival will feature camel races and turban tying competitions. There will be Rajasthani folk song and dance performances, as well as contests aimed at judging the best moustache.
'e-Cabinet' paperless system implemented in Arunachal Pradesh :
The Arunachal Pradesh government today said it has implemented a paperless system to cut down on the time taken to hold a cabinet meeting. The 'e-Cabinet' system uses a web-based software by which ministers can prepare for cabinet meetings, entirely without paper, an official report said. The system is a multi-user secure solution that keeps information updated in real time.

Bill to pay wages via cheque passed in Lok Sabha :
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Payment of Wages (Amendment) Bill, 2017 which seeks to enable employers to pay wages to workers through cheque or directly crediting to their accounts. The bill will replace the Ordinance promulgated in December last year. Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said the new law will help in check exploitation of workers in unorganised sector.

Law on decriminalising domestic violence in Russia got signed by Putin :
Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved an amendment that decriminalises domestic violence across Russia, where reportedly one woman dies every 40 minutes from domestic abuse. Now, domestic violence that does not result in broken bones is punishable by 15 days in prison if it does not happen more than once a year, down from the 2-year jail sentence earlier.

In United States, two top Senators have introduced a legislation in the Senate, proposing to cut the level of immigrants to the country by half. The RAISE Act, introduced by Republican senator Tom Cotton and Democrat David Perdue has proposed to reduce the number of green card or Legal Permanent Residency issued every year from currently about a million to half a million.
The passage of the bill, which is said to have the support of the Trump administration, will have a major impact on hundreds and thousands of Indian-Americans who are currently waiting to get their green cards on employment-based categories.

The Reserve Bank of India kept the repo rate unchanged at 6.25% in its bi-monthly monetary policy review on Wednesday. This is the second time in a row that the repo rate has been kept unchanged. The reverse repo rate also remains unchanged at 5.75%. The RBI further said that the expected growth is 6.9% for the 2016-17 fiscal.

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has reported an over 306% year-on-year rise in net profit to ₹207.18 crore for the quarter ended December. This is on account of lower provisioning for bad loans. The bank's CEO Usha Ananthasubramanian said that PNB has recently entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Postal Bank of India.

The weekly cash withdrawal limit from savings bank accounts from ATMs or banks will be increased to ₹50,000 from February 20 and there won’t be any withdrawal limit from March 13, the Reserve Bank of India said on Wednedsday. The weekly withdrawal limit now is ₹24,000.
The RBI removed the cash withdrawal limit from current accounts, cash credit accounts and overdrafts on January 30. From February 1, the withdrawal in a single day from a savings bank account from an ATM or a bank was raised to ₹24,000. But the cap on ₹24,000 a week remained.

Ratan Tata on Tuesday unveiled 'Moonshot Wheels', a bus which will travel across the country to spread awareness about India's first private moon mission to be attempted by Bengaluru-based TeamIndus. The bus will travel to 11 states and carry astronomy models. TeamIndus is among five finalists for Google's Lunar XPRIZE competition and has signed a launch contract with ISRO.
Technology major Apple has been granted a patent for convertible "dual mode" headphones that can be transformed into stereo speakers. Users will be able to switch between the two modes at the touch of a button or through sensors that detect the position of the device. Additional sensors prevent speakers from turning on when headphones are close to users' ears.

Indian film 'Sexy Durga' the 1st to win Rotterdam fest jury award :
'Sexy Durga' by Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Sasidharan became the first Indian film to win the Hivor Tiger Award at International Film Festival of Rotterdam. The award also includes a cash prize of ₹28.9 lakh (40,000 euros). Shot without a script in 20 days, the film is about a couple who elopes at night and hitches a ride with four men.

Jovenel Moise becomes as the new President of Haiti :
Jovenel Moise was on Tuesday sworn in as Haiti's President and will serve a five-year term. Moise won a re-run presidential election last year with 55.6% votes after the first round of elections in October 2015 were scrapped over fraud allegations. Moise replaces interim president Jocelerme Privert, who was appointed to the post in February 2016.

Snapdeal’s head of corporate development Abhishek Kumar, and senior vice president Sandeep Komaravelly, have quit the homegrown e-commerce company. Kumar was working along with founders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal for raising funds. Kumar's responsibilities have been taken over by former Housing CEO Jason Kothari, who joined Snapdeal as Chief Strategy and Investment officer last month.

2,000m women's world record broken by Genzebe Dibaba :
Ethiopian runner Genzebe Dibaba broke the women's 2,000-metre world record, running the distance in five minutes, 23.75 seconds, at an indoor arena in Spain on Tuesday. Dibaba's timing was almost seven seconds less than the previous indoor world record of 5:30.53, and also almost two seconds less than the outdoor record of 5:25.36.
Mohit Ahlawat the 1st crickter to score 300 in T20s at any level :
Twenty-one-year-old Delhi batsman Mohit Ahlawat has become the first batsman to score a triple hundred in a T20 match at any level. Ahlawat, who has represented Delhi in Ranji Trophy, scored an unbeaten 300 off 72 balls in a local T20 tournament at Delhi's Lalita Park. Ahlawat smashed 39 sixes and 14 fours in his knock.
Sourabh Verma won Men’s Singles title at National Badminton Championship :
Sourabh Verma clinched the Men’s Singles title defeating Lakshya Sen in the 81 st Senior National Badminton Championships tournament played in Patna today. Sourabh beat Lakshya Sen 21-13, 21-12.
Earlier in the day, Rituparna Das claimed the Women's Singles title defeating Reshma Karthik in the tournament. Second seed Rituparna defeated 9th seed Reshma 21-12, 21-14.
In Women's doubles event, the pair of Aparna Balan and Prajakta Sawant clinched the title defeating the pair of Shikha Gautam and Sanyogita Ghorpade 21-9, 21-11.
