World Cancer Day - February 4th
Theme : “We can. I can.” (For 2016, 2017 and 2018)
World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on 4th of February all over the world to commemorate all the efforts done by the WHO, United Nations, governmental and nongovernmental health organizations towards making the strategy to fight against cancer as well as distributing the real message about this epidemic disease and its treatments including its precautionary measures by uniting all the people a day on global basis. It is celebrated to plan some new strategies as well as implement some new programs which help to aware more people about this disease. This event is organized on annual basis under the supervision of Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and other leading health organizations involved for cancer fighting.
The theme of the World Cancer Day 2016, 2017 and 2018 is “We can. I can.”
50 fraud platforms offering Aadhaar services to be shut by UIDAI :
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has cracked down on 50 unauthorised websites and apps offering Aadhaar-related services illegally and charging extra money from the public. The organisation said that 12 such websites and 12 mobile apps had already been shut down and that it had further directed authorities on the closure of another 26.
Various telecom operators got penalty Rs.11 cr imposed by TRAI for poor services :
Telecom regulator TRAI has imposed over ₹11 crore as penalty on telecom operators, including BSNL, Airtel, and Vodafone, for poor service quality including call drops, Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha said on Friday. Of this, the highest penalty has been imposed on Aircel of ₹3 crore for not meeting quality parameters for 2G service and ₹1.56 crore for poor 3G service.

10th Edition Sula Festival starts today in Maharashtra :
The tenth edition of Sula Fest began on Friday at the Sula Vineyards in Nashik, Maharashtra. The line-up for the three-day festival, which will also feature professional wine tastings and grape stomping, includes artists Infected Mushroom and Nucleya. Tickets for Sula Fest, which is offering a camping stay facility, range from ₹1500 to ₹4900.

Assembly elections 2017 for Punjab, Goa started today :
The 2017 Assembly elections have started as voting for the single-phase polls in two states, Goa and Punjab, has begun. In Punjab, 1.98 crore electors are eligible to vote to choose from among 1,145 candidates to elect a 117-member assembly. In Goa, 11 lakh voters will decide the fate of 250 nominees for 40 seats.

To encourage women voters EC sets Pink polling booths in Goa :
As Goa goes to poll on Saturday, the authorities have set up pink polling booths in the state to encourage women voters to cast their votes. Notably, the state has 32,354 first-time voters, which include 18,172 female voters. However, out of the total 251 candidates fielded this year, only 19 are women.

Railway projects in Odisha got fund sanctioned Over ₹5,100 crore :
The Centre has sanctioned ₹5,102 crore for railway industrial projects and rail infrastructure development in Odisha, East Coast Railway General Manager Umesh Singh said today. This includes ₹700 crore and ₹275 crore for the Khurda-Bolangir and Jeypore-Nabarangpur rail projects respectively. Funds have also been allocated for the Talcher-Bimlagarh and Lanjigarh Road-Junagarh rail projects.

Air India to start 3 flights a week non-stop from Delhi to Washington
Air India will start three flights a week non-stop from New Delhi to Dulles International Airport in suburb of Washington DC this summer. Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe said, the move will bring 30,000 people from India to America every year for economic, commercial and family purposes. He said, the direct flights will also attract students from India to come and study at universities in Virginia and other parts of the United States.

Annual 'Udyanotsav' of Rashtrapati Bhavan inaugurated by Pranab Mukherjee :
President Pranab Mukherjee will open the annual ‘Udyanotsav’ of the Rashtrapati Bhavan today. The highlights of this year’s ‘Udyanotsav’ include two new varieties of roses named after the President Mukherjee and his late wife Suvra Mukherjee. About 14,000 Tulip bulbs in seven different colors such as red, orange, yellow mixed with red, pink, and purple have been planted in Mughal Gardens. Several beds of roses, including both new and heritage varieties are the main attraction of the Long garden.
On promoting digital payment Digi Dhan Mela organized today at Bihar :
In Bihar, Digi Dhan Mela has been organized today at Gaya to promote digital modes of payment. This is the second such mela in the state. Earlier it was organized at Patna. Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh will inaugurate the Digi Dhan Mela at the premises of Gaya College this after noon. The main purpose of the mela is to boost digital modes of payments.

Trump's immigration ban got nationwide block from Seattle court
A Seattle federal judge on Friday put a nationwide block, effective immediately, on President Donald Trump's order temporarily banning visitors from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US. The White House, however, said it believed the ban to be "lawful and appropriate" and that it would file an emergency motion to stop the order from taking effect.

New sanctions on Iran imposed by Iran :
The United States has imposed new sanctions on Iran following its recent ballistic missile test. The sanctions target 13 people and 12 companies, including groups in China, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates.
US Treasury Department's Acting Sanctions Chief, John Smith said in a statement that Iran's continued support to terrorism and development of its ballistic missile programme pose a threat to the region, the United States and its partners worldwide.

Negotiations for free trade agreement to be speed up Mexico, Turkey :
Mexico and Turkey have agreed to speed up negotiations for a free trade agreement in the wake of protectionist threats from US President Donald Trump. Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray and his visiting Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu yesterday said the two governments have held seven rounds of talks and will meet again in the coming weeks.
Mr Videgaray said, both countries have agreed to give a faster impetus to the search for an agreement. He also proposed to strengthen the MIKTA forum, a political and trade forum that includes Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia.

RBI asks banks to adopt proactive approach for reporting of financial frauds
Reserve Bank has asked banks to adopt a proactive approach for reporting of financial frauds. RBI Deputy Governor SS Mundra said delay in reporting of a fraud can have far-reaching implications on the employee conduct and internal governance standards.
He lamented that the gap between the date of occurrence of a fraud and its detection has been steadily widening. Addressing a seminar on Financial Crimes Management in Mumbai yesterday, Mr Mundra said almost 92 percent of financial frauds are loan-related.

Vikram Limaye becomes as new CEO of National Stock Exchange :
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) board has approved the appointment of current IDFC MD and CEO Vikram Limaye as its next managing director and chief executive officer. The appointment is pending markets regulator SEBI's approval. Notably, Limaye has also been appointed as one of the four members of the governing body of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Ministry of Finance appoints Sanjeev Sanyal as Principal Economic Adviser :
The government on Friday appointed noted economist and former Deutsche Bank Managing Director Sanjeev Sanyal as the Principal Economic Adviser in the Ministry of Finance. He has been appointed on contract for a period of three years. Sanyal is an alum of Delhi’s Shri Ram College of Commerce as well as the University of Oxford.

Tamil Nadu government adviser Sheela Balakrishnan quits :
Former Chief Secretary Sheela Balakrishnan on Friday quit as adviser to the Tamil Nadu Government, a post to which she was appointed by the then Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in March 2014, after her superannuation from civil services.
In a parallel development, K.N. Venkataramanan and A. Ramalingam, the Secretary I and IV respectively in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), were removed from their posts. Mr. Venkataramanan, a retired civil servant, and Mr, Ramalingam, a serving officer, were also key members of Jayalalithaa’s team of trusted officials.
Joginder Singh the former CBI director passes away :
Former Central Bureau of Investigation director Joginder Singh passed away earlier on Friday after a prolonged illness. His cremation will happen on Saturday at the Lodhi Crematorium in New Delhi. Singh, who was an Indian Police Service officer and served as the CBI director between 1996-97, has been serving as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Sunil Healthcare Ltd since 2000.
