Inderjit Singh 1985 Air India Kanishka bomber set freed by Canada :

 Inderjit Singh Reyat, the only person convicted in the case related to the bombing of Air India flight 182, called Emperor Kanishka, in 1985 has been released by the Parole Board of Canada. Reyat had served two-thirds of a nine-year jail sentence for perjury in connection with the bombing of Air India flight 182 that killed 329 people.

Foreign tourists to India to get pre-loaded SIM cards : Govt

The Centre on Wednesday launched an initiative to provide pre-loaded SIM cards to foreign tourists arriving in India on e-Visa. The initiative was launched along with state-run telecom company BSNL. The SIM cards will have ₹50 talk time and 50 MB data. The SIM will be activated on an immediate basis so that tourists can use the facility instantly.
Govt staff of Bihar got ban on  consuming alcohol around the state :

The Bihar Cabinet on Wednesday passed a proposed amendment to the state service rules forbidding government employees from consuming alcohol anywhere in the state. The service rules earlier prohibited government servants from consuming alcohol or any other intoxicant at workplace only. Notably, this comes after the Bihar government imposed a liquor-ban policy across the state in April last year.

TAMRA app launched to ensure lucidity in mining operations : Govt

Government has launched Transparency, Auction Monitoring and Resource Augmentation (TAMRA) mobile application and portal to ensure transparent award of statutory clearances for mining operations.
Power Minister Piyush Goyal simultaneously launched this portal yesterday in New Delhi across 12 mineral rich States. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Goyal said, TAMRA is a step to speed up mining activity in the country and facilitate all the stakeholders to track the status of the statutory clearances associated with mining blocks.
Delhi AIIMS won first prize in Kayakalp awards for sanitation & hygiene :

All India Institute of Medical Science, AIIMS of Delhi has won the first prize and a cash reward of 5 crore rupees for maintaining high standards of sanitation and hygiene under the Government's Kayakalp awards.
AIIMS was followed by North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Shillong, which got a cash prize of 3 crore rupees. While Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, received the third prize of one crore rupees.

'Momentum Jharkhand' Global Investor Summit kick starts today at Ranchi :

A two-day mega event of Global Investor Summit, branded as "Momentum Jharkhand" is going to start at Khelgaon of Ranchi today. 5-day Indian Panaroma Film Festival planned in Port Blair :

The five-day ‘Indian Panorama Film Festival’ being organised by the Directorate of Information and Publicity, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, in association with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Directorate of Film Festivals/IFFI, New Delhi, Govt. of India got underway in Port Blair yesterday.

Digi Dhan Mela event held at Jagdalpur of Chhattisgarh :

In Chhattisgarh, a Digi-Dhan Mela was organised yesterday at Jagdalpur, the divisional headquarters of Bastar. Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot inaugurated the Mela. To promote cashless transactions, it was organised in the Maoist affected Bastar region. It was fourth in a series of such fairs organised in the state.
Addressing the function Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot said that Digital India campaign is aimed to curb the corruption as well as black money. Large number of people, including from rural areas, attended the digi-dhan mela and showed keen interest to learn ways to use cashless transactions.

Flats to be built by Andhra Pradesh govt in Amaravati for it's officials :

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to build flats for 9,061 government employees, judges, MLAs and MLCs on 139 acres of land in the capital region Amaravati.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu while reviewing the progress of the capital development with CRDA officials yesterday has directed the officials to identify suitable site and construct G plus 8-floor buildings and said that the flats should be affordable so that the employees could clear the loan in easy installments.

Panda is chosen as logo of WWF:

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) chose a panda as their logo to save printing costs. "We wanted an animal that is beautiful, is endangered, and...loved. We also wanted an animal that had an impact in black and white to save money on printing costs," stated Co-founder Peter Scott. The inspiration for the logo also came from Chi-Chi, a giant panda.

Merger of SBI with 5 subsidiary banks got approval from Cabinet:

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday announced that the Cabinet has approved the merger of State Bank of India with its five subsidiary banks. The associate banks include State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, State Bank of Patiala, State Bank of Travancore, and State Bank of Hyderabad. The proposal was cleared by SBI last year.

Mobile app soon to be launched by Tax department for income tax, PAN Card:

The Income Tax department is developing an App that will soon allow assesses to pay taxes or apply for PAN using smartphones. The department is also working on a project to issue Permanent Account Numbers, PAN to assess within minutes by way of e-KYC authentication using Aadhaar.
It will help bring more people under the tax net by making it easier for people to get PAN, an official said. The app concept is at a preliminary stage. Pilot project will be undertaken after getting approval from the Finance Ministry, the official added.
Tata Motors association with Microsoft to make India's first cloud-connected car :

Tata Motors today announced a partnership with technology major Microsoft to develop India's first cloud-connected smart cars. The first vehicle showcasing the companies' technology will be unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show on March 7 under the newly launched 'TAMO' brand. This comes after Tata Motors said it would premiere its first sports car 'Futuro' at the event.

Indian-origin cop Shand Panesar receives bravery awarded from Scotland Yard :

Shand Panesar, an Indian-origin constable with Scotland Yard, has been awarded 2017's Outstanding Bravery of the Year Award. Panesar was given the award for risking his life with a colleague to rescue a couple from a burning building in London last September. Panesar and his colleague Craig Nicholson reportedly had no fire safety equipment or protective clothing during the rescue.

5 new judges appointed to SC:

Five new judges were appointed to the Supreme Court on Wednesday, taking its working strength to 28. The new judges elevated to the apex court include four chief justices of state high courts and a sitting Karnataka High Court judge. Notably, the Supreme Court has a total sanctioned strength of 31 judges.
Matt Idema appointed as first ever COO of WhatsApp :

Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp has hired Matt Idema, its first ever Chief Operating Officer (COO), since its initial release back in 2009. Until now, Idema was leading product marketing for all of Facebook's business products worldwide. WhatsApp, which now has 1.2 billion monthly active users worldwide, currently employs 200 people.
