Rajasthan govt launches mobile app for tourists

i. Rajasthan government has recently launched a mobile App that provides the latest information about tourist attractions in Ajmer and Pushkar. 
ii. The app LeZgo provides inputs in 12 prominent languages. 

World's longest tunnel opens regular service in Switzerland

i. The world’s longest tunnel, Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) in Switzerland was opened for regular rail services on 11 December 2016. 

ii. It will be carrying passengers under the Swiss Alps from Zurich to Lugano.

Dipa Karmakar's biography to be co-authored by her coach

i. Bishweshwar Nandi, coach of Dipa Karmakar who made India proud at the Rio Olympics with her performance in the field of gymnastics will co-author her memoir titled: “Dipa Karmakar: The Small Wonder”.

Rajiv Gandhi airport achieves carbon neutral status

i. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad has achieved carbon neutral status.

ii. It is the first in the Asia-Pacific region in the 5-15 million passengers per annum category to attain this status.

iii. Earlier in September 2016 GMR Group-led Delhi Airport had become the first airport in Asia-Pacific to achieve carbon neutral status among all categories.

Ravindra Kumar, First IAS Officer To Scale Mt Everest Pens Motivational Book

i. The book titled "Many Everest" An Inspiring Journey of Transforming Dream into Reality’ is penned by Ravindra Kumar.

ii. Ravindra Kumar 2011 batch IAS officer as well as the first Seafarer of India, to climb the Mount Everest has written a motivational book for students, which was released by the Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha on December 12, 2016 in New Delhi. 

Paytm launches ‘Each one, teach one’ to increase digital inclusion

i. The campaign is aimed at transforming user behaviour and further accelerating the country’s ongoing shift from cash to digital payments.

ii. As a part of the drive, Paytm has also announced an incentive including Rs. 1 cr. grand prize along with additional prizes like motorcycles, smartphones, laptops and other exciting gifts. 

iii. All users transacting between 1st December 2016 and 31st March 2017 are eligible to win these prizes.

Qatar abolishes controversial 'kafala' labour system

i. Labour Minister of Qatar, Issa bin Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi on December 13, 2016, formally announced the end of its controversial “kafala” system, which was the biggest ever labour reform in Qatar.

ii. Kafala System is a system used to monitor migrant laborers, working primarily in the construction and domestic sectors of Qatar and other gulf countries.
