a)    12 days
b)    14 days
c)    16 days
d)    18 days

10). A train covered a certain distance at uniform speed. If the train would have been 12 km/hr. faster,  it would have taken 15 hrs. less and if the train were slower by 12 km/hr. it would have taken 25 hours more. What is the length of the journey?
a)    2400 km.
b)    2700 km.
c)    3000 km.
d)    3200 km.
e)    3600 km.
1). C)  Let the original cost price is ‘x’,  so selling price is
115x/100 = 23x/20
Now CP = x – 200, S.P. = (23x/20) - 200
Profit =  (23x/20) – 200 – (x - 200) = (23x/20) – x = 3x/20
% profit = (3x/20) × [1/ (x - 200)] × 100 = 20
[3x / (x-200)] = 4
3 x = 4 x – 800
2). E)  Let the rate of interest is r% p.a.
[(4200 × r × 3) /100] + [(6500 × r × 7) / 100] = 8134
126 r + 455 r = 8134
r = 8134/581 = 14% p.a
3). A)Let the principal is ‘P’ and rate of interest is ‘r’
P [1+ (r/100)]3 = 107811         ………….(I)
P [1+ (r/100)]2 = 98010           ………….(II)
Dividing equn (I) by (II)
1 + (r/100) = 107811/98010
r/100 = 9801/98010
r = 980100/98010 = 10% p.a.
P = [1+ (10/100)]2 = 98010
P = (98010 × 100) / 121 = 81000
4). B)  B G
Now 6 letters are left for six different place
Req. No. of wages = 6p6 = 6! = 720
5). C)n (s) =  16C3 = 560
n (E) = Number of ways of selecting 3 balls out of 7 = 7C3  = 7!/3! 4! = 35
P (E) = 35/560 = 1/16
6). D)(A + B)’s 1 days work = (1/72) + (1/45)
= (5+8)/360 = 13/360
(A + B)’s 8 days work = (13 × 8) / 360 = 13/45
Remaining work = 1 – (13/45) = 32/45
B finish 1 work in 45 days
B will finish (32/45) work in 45×(32/45) = 32 days.
7). C)Let the cost price of first and second cycle are ‘x’ & ‘y’ respectively
x + y = 10000   ....................... (I)
x × (18/100)  – y × (10/100) = 36
9 x – 5 y = 1800  .......................... (II)
Equn (I) × 5 + equan (II)
5 x + 5 y = 50000
9 x – 5 y = 1800
___________
14           =  51800
8). A)  Net rate of increase in population = 6.3 – 1.8 = 4.5%
Req. population = 800000 × 1.045×1.045 = 8736.20
9). C)  Let daily earning of a man is ‘x’ and woman is ‘y’
2 x + 5 y =  (4250/17)  = 250    ...................... (I)
7 x + 8 y =  (6281/11) = 571 ...................... (II)
Solving eqn. (I) & (II) x = 45, y = 32
6 x + 9 y = 270 + 288 = 558
No. of days = 8928/558 = 16
10). E)  Let the speed is ‘x’ kmh -1  and actual time = ‘y’ hrs.
distance = xy
x y = (x + 12) (y – 15)
x y = x y – 15 x + 12 y – 180
4 y – 5 x = 60   ............................ (I)
again x y = (x – 12) (y + 25)
xy = xy + 25 x – 12 y – 300
12 y – 25 x = – 300  ........................... (II)
Solving equn. (I) and (II) x = 48  and y = 75

distance = xy = 48 × 75 = 3600 km.
