- Secularising - when something is secularized, religious influence, power, or control is removed from it
- Grappled with - to try hard to understand a difficult idea or to solve a difficult problem

- Prohibit - to officially refuse to allow something
- Justifiable - if something is justifiable, there is a good reason for it
- Deprivation - a situation in which you do not have things or conditions that are usually considered necessary for a pleasant life
- Injustice - an unfair action or event (not treating someone fairly and not respecting their rights)
- Permissible - allowed to be done by a law or rule
- Verdict - an official judgment made in a court
- Resonance - an emotional effect produced by something that reminds you of something else
- Nuance - a slight difference that may be difficult to notice but is fairly important

- Appetite - the feeling of wanting or needing something
- Constraint - something that controls what you do by keeping you within particular limits
- Substantially - to a large degree
- Swelled - to become larger
- Liability - he amount of money that somebody owes
- Markup - the amount by which the price of something is increased before it is sold again
- Benchmark - a level of quality that can be used as a standard when comparing other things
- Consumer - a person who buys goods or services for their own use
- Fiscal stimulus - an attempt by a government to increase economic activity by reducing taxes, increasing government spending, or both
- Reinvigorate - make something stronger, or more exciting or successful again
- Flagging - becoming weaker
