Dear Readers, Important Tips to Solve Input & Output Problems in Reasoning Section was given here, which were most expected questions in Upcoming IBPS PO examination. Candidates those who are preparing for the exams can download this in PDF.
Example Questions (Type-II):
DIRECTIONS: Study the following information carefully and answer the given questions
A word and number arrangement machine when given an input line of words and numbers, rearranges them following a particular rule in each step. The following is an illustration of input and rearrangement
Input: 45 navel change 33 48 down town frown 62 88 98 gesture orange 21
Step I: 45 navel change 33 48 down frown 62 88 98 gesture orange town 21
Step II: 45 navel change 48 down frown 62 88 98 gesture town 21 orange 33
Step III: change 48 down frown 62 88 98 gesture t own 21 orange 33 navel 45
Step IV: change down frown 62 88 98 town 21 orange 33 navel 45 gesture 48
Step V: change down 88 98 town 21 orange 33 navel 45 gesture 48 frown 62
Step VI: change 98 town 21 orange 33 navel 45 gesture 48 frown 62 down 88
Step VII: town 21 orange 33 navel 45 gesture 48 frown 62 down 88 change 98
Step VII is the last step of the above arrangement as the intended arrangement is obtained. As per the rules followed in the given steps, find out the appropriate steps for the given input
Input: 35 quant hear cute 50 65 98 silent giant 71 82 19 oliver melody
1). How many steps will be required to complete the above input?
2).Which of the following is the fourth element from the left end of Step VI?
b). melody
d). oliver
3).What is the position of ‘melody’ from the left end in the final step?
b). seventh
4).Which element is fourth to the right of ‘giant’ in Step V?
5).Which of the following is Step III of the given input?
a). quant 82 hear 50 giant 35 cute 19 65 98 silent 71 oliver melody
b). hear cute 65 98 giant 71 82 melody silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50
c). hear cute 98 giant 71 82 silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65
d). hear cute 98 65 giant 71 82 melody silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50
e). none of the above
· An input-output sequence
· An input for which output should be determined following the given input-output sequence
Consider the given input-output sequence
Input: 45 navel change 33 48 down town frown 62 88 98 gesture orange 21
Step I: 45 navel change 33 48 down frown 62 88 98 gesture orange town 21
Step II: 45 navel change 48 down frown 62 88 98 gesture town 21 orange 33
Step III: change 48 down frown 62 88 98 gesture t own 21 orange 33 navel 45
Step IV: change down frown 62 88 98 town 21 orange 33 navel 45 gesture 48
Step V: change down 88 98 town 21 orange 33 navel 45 gesture 48 frown 62
Step VI: change 98 town 21 orange 33 navel 45 gesture 48 frown 62 down 88
Step VII: town 21 orange 33 navel 45 gesture 48 frown 62 down 88 change 98
Here Step VII is the output
We should analyse the above sequence in order to obtain the output for the given input sequence
· From the output we can see that the words and numbers of the input are arranged alternatively
· The words are arranged in the reverse alphabetical (Z to A) order from left to right
· The number are arranged in ascending order from left to right
· Now we should analyse the Step by Step rearrangement of the input to obtain the output
· It should be noted that a word and a number are rearranged jointly in each Step
· The 1st word as per the reverse alphabetical order and the lowest number (town 21) are shifted from their original positions to the right end of the sequence in Step I
· Similarly the 2nd word as per the reverse alphabetical order and the 2nd lowest number (orange 33) are shifted from their positions to the right of ‘town 21’ in Step II and so on
· This rearrangement will be done until the words and numbers are arranged as per the reverse alphabetical order and ascending order respectively
The same pattern of rearrangement should be followed to obtain the required output from the given input
Input: 35 quant hear cute 50 65 98 silent giant 71 82 19 oliver melody
· In Step I, the 1st word as per the reverse alphabetical order and the lowest number should be shifted to the right end
· Here the combination of word and number that should be rearranged is ‘silent 19’
Step I: 35 quant hear cute 50 65 98 giant 71 82 oliver melody silent 19
· In Step 2, the 2nd word as per the reverse alphabetical order and the second lowest number i.e., ‘quant 35’ should be rearranged after the combination ‘silent 19’
Step II: hear cute 50 65 98 giant 71 82 oliver melody silent 19 quant 35
· In Step 3, the combination ‘oliver 50’ i.e., 3rd word as per the reverse alphabetical order and the 3rd lowest number should be rearranged
Step III: hear cute 65 98 giant 71 82 melody silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50
· In Step 4, the next combination ‘melody 65’ should be rearranged as eligible is next available word after oliver as per the reverse alphabetical order and 65 is the next highest number after 50
Step IV: hear cute 98 giant 71 82 silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65
· The next combination of word and number that should be rearranged after melody 65 is hear 71
Step V: cute 98 giant 82 silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65 hear 71
· The next combination of word and number that should be rearranged after hear 71 is giant 82
Step VI: cute 98 silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65 hear 71 giant 82
· The next combination of word and number that should be rearranged after giant 82 is cute 98. This is the last rearrangement as cute is the last word in the reverse alphabetical series and 98 is the highest number in the input
Step VII: silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65 hear 71 giant 82 cute 98
All the words and numbers are arranged as per the output requirement where the words are arranged as per the reverse alphabetical order and the numbers are in ascending order from left to right
Therefore Step VII – Output
Input: 35 quant hear cute 50 65 98 silent giant 71 82 19 oliver melody
Step I: 35 quant hear cute 50 65 98 giant 71 82 oliver melody silent 19
Step II: hear cute 50 65 98 giant 71 82 oliver melody silent 19 quant 35
Step III: hear cute 65 98 giant 71 82 melody silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50
Step IV: hear cute 98 giant 71 82 silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65
Step V: cute 98 giant 82 silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65 hear 71
Step VI: cute 98 silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65 hear 71 giant 82
Step VII: silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65 hear 71 giant 82 cute 98
QUESTION 1: Seven steps is required to complete the given input
QUESTION 2:

QUESTION 3:
Step VII: silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65 hear 71 giant 82 cute 98
Position of ‘melody’ from the left end in the final step
b). Seventh
QUESTION 4:
Step V: cute 98 giant 82 silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50 melody 65 hear 71
Element that is fourth to the right of ‘giant’ in Step V is quant
QUESTION 5:
Step III: hear cute 65 98 giant 71 82 melody silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50
b). hear cute 65 98 giant 71 82 melody silent 19 quant 35 oliver 50
