Last Minute Tips for IBPS RRB Pre Exam 2016 – Officer Scale I

Dear Aspirants,

You all are well aware that the Preliminary phase of the IBPS RRB Exam 2016 for the post of Officer Scale – I is starting from tomorrow. Today we are going to provide you all with some Last Minute Tips for IBPS RRB Exam to give some final touches to your preparation and help you all strategize the exam in a better way.

Before we move to that, a clear idea of the structure of the exam is a must. The Preliminary phase of the exam will consist of the following –

Before you appear for the exam, take proper note of following –

  • Effective Time Management is a must to clear the exam. Do not try to solve each and every question. Select the questions you solve first carefully, keeping in mind your stronger areas. Try to first attempt the questions which are less time consuming.
  • Speed and Accuracy are other important parameters that will help you clear this exam. Make sure you maintain proper speed while solving the questions since the beginning.
  • Please keep in mind that there is Negative Marking of ¼ marks per question for each Wrong Answer.
  • Remember this exam is just Qualifying in nature. The marks scored in this phase will not be included in the final merit list.
  • Candidates are required to obtain a minimum score in each section to clear the Sectional Cut-Off and also a minimum total score to clear the Overall Cutoff in the online test to be shortlisted for the mains phase of this exam.

Section – wise Tips

Reasoning Ability –

  • A total of 40 questions will be asked in this topic. Try to finish this topic within 20 minutes so that you have sufficient time for the other section as well.
  • Try to attempt the following topics first in this section –
    1. Inequality
    2. Syllogism
    3. Coding – Decoding
    4. Some miscellaneous questions like blood relations etc.
    5. After you are done with these questions, you can go for puzzles/ seating arrangement or the remaining questions if the time permits.

Quantitative Aptitude –

  • 40 questions would be asked from this topic.
  • Try to devote at least 25 minutes for this section since this part is calculative.
  • Try to attempt the following topics first in this section –
    1. Number Series
    2. Simplification/ Approximation
    3. Quadratic Equations
    4. Data Interpretation (Ratio and Average based questions)
    4. After you are done with these topics, you can move on to the miscellaneous questions if there still is time..
    5. Do not spend more than a minute or two on any particular question. If you have even a little doubt on the question, it would be advisable to move on to the next and come back to it if the time permits.

Do’s and Don’t for the Exam –

  • Do not panic once the exam starts. Stay calm and start with the section you are most confident about.
  • Do read the questions properly first.
  • Do attempt the questions in the time you have assigned for each section and try not to spend more time than that.
  • Do make sure that you attempt 50 plus questions.
  • Do not spend too much time on any one question.
  • Do not use guess work.
  • Do not forget to take along the photograph (same as that on the admit card) and xerox as well as the original ID proof with you.
