Three day Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet GRAM to begin today

i. In Rajasthan, a three day Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet GRAM will begin today. The main objective of the meet is to double the income of farmers through various technologies and agriculture activities. More than 50 thousand farmers from around the state will participate in the meet. "Australia, Netherland and Israel will be international partners of the meet. ZazamChoupal will be the main attraction of the meet where farmers will be enlightened with new technology in their own language.

ii. There will be some MoUs to setup industries in field of agriculture. In the meet, farmers with extra ordinary achievements will be honored with GRAM award. Three trains and more than 900 buses have been arranged to transport farmers to the meet. It is expected that a good number of women farmer will also be participate in the meet.

Every district in Punjab to have sports school: Badal

Punjab Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday announced that sports schools will be opened in all districts of the state to prepare young talent for sports events. "Students will be imparted free coaching...they can complete their education from these schools," he said. The target is to have maximum athletes from Punjab in 2020 Tokyo Olympics' Indian contingent, Badal asserted.

Chhattisgarh launches campaign "Lakshya Bhagirathi" to complete irrigation projects

i. Chhattisgarh government has launched a campaign to complete the irrigation projects that could not be completed. Under the campaign called “Lakshya Bhagirathi”, the water resources department had identified 108 projects that could not be completed. Most of the projects are minor and middle. For the last three decades, the projects were pending for required clearances.

ii. The economy of the state is mainly based on agriculture and forestry. The agriculture sector contributes around 38% to the State’s Net Domestic Product. Of the total workforce of 8.3 million, 5.9 million (71%) are engaged in agriculture.

iii. Net sown area of the Chhattisgarh state is 4.683 million hectares while the gross sown area is 5.561 million hectares. The state’s Irrigation potential was 1.328 million hectares at the time of formation of the state (in November 2000) which was 23% of the gross sown area.

INTERNATIONAL

World's first zero-emissions hydrogen train, CoradiaiLint, unveiled in Germany

World's first hydrogen-powered and zero-emission passenger train was unveiled in September 2016 in Germany. The CoradiaiLint, developed by French rail company Alstom, only emits excess steam and condensed water into the atmosphere.

Key highlights of the CoradiaiLint

1. CoradiaiLint is powered by a hydrogen fuel tank on its roof. The fuel cell is supplied with hydrogen and oxygen from the air, which it converts into electric power.

2. The system is backed up by lithium batteries. These batteries store the excess power in order to later supply the train when needed.

3. The train is totally carbon-free, making it a much more sustainable alternative to the 4000 diesel trains currently in circulation in Germany.

RBI issues new series of Rs 500 &Rs 2,000 notes with improved features

The Reserve Bank has issued new series of notes for 500 rupees and 2,000 rupees denomination with improved features and newer sizes.The RBI said, 2,000 rupees note, which is a first under the denomination, will be called as the 'Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series' and has a design of the low-cost mission to Mars, the Mangalayan, on the reverse. It said, the base colour of the note will be magenta.

The RBI said, the new design in the 500 rupee denomination will be in a different colour, size, theme, design and location of security features, it said. The note, will be in a stone grey colour and the predominant theme will be Delhi's Red Fort. Both the designs of 500 rupees and 2,000 rupees, will be very friendly towards the visually-impaired by having features which make it accessible for all sections.

Corp Bank Inks Pact with Indian Army

Corporation Bank has signed a MoU with the Indian Army on defence salary package. It will be providing free/concessional services to the Army under the MoU. The services include free drafts, free cheque books, free funds, free ATM cards, unlimited transactions on all ATMs. Free personal accident insurance cover of 5 lakh and 10 lakh up to the age of 70 years are the other features.

Odisha government signs MoU to with Software Technology Parks of India to open four centers

The Odisha government on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) to set up four STPI centres in the state. The STPI centres would come up in Angul, Jajpur, Koraput (Jeypore) and Sambalpur. With these four, Odisha will have eight centres of the total 55 in the country.

He said the Incubation High Speed Data connectivity facility would be available to entrepreneurs, specially catering to the need of Startups, MSMEs, SMEs to start their business without any hassles. “It is a matter of pride that the IT exports from the state is reported at Rs 2900 crore during the year 2015-16 and achieved national prominence in the IT map of the country. Today around 90% of software exports from the state are contributed by STPI,” Patnaik said. He added that he is confident that the new STPI centres would facilitate and support the entrepreneurs to explore global opportunities and boost direct and indirect employment in the state.

Donald Trump elected 45th President of United States

Billionaire-turned-politician Donald Trump has been elected the 45th President of the United States. The Republican party candidate secured the support of 276 of the 538 members of the electoral college, beating Democratic party rival Hillary Clinton. President-elect Trump will formally take charge of the Oval Office on January 20, 2017, dubbed as the 'Inauguration Day'.

Guy Ryder re-elected ILO Director-General

Guy Ryder has been re-elected Director-General of the International LabourOrganisation (ILO) for another five-year term, starting October 1. In the governing body, Ryder received 54 of the 56 votes cast by the titular members, an ILO release from Geneva said. Incidentally, he was the only candidate. Ryder is the 10th ILO Director-General and has about 35 years of experience in the world of work, most of it at the international level.

AmitavGhosh to Be Honored With Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award

Acclaimed Indian American fiction author AmitavGhosh, 60, has been named for 2016 Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the Indian literary space. The award will be presented to him at the upcoming Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest's annual awards ceremony scheduled for Nov. 20.

Young Syrian named journalist of the year by press watchdog

Syrian freelance journalist Hadi Abdullah was awarded with ‘Reporters without Borders (RSF)-TV5 Monde prize’ on November 8, 2016 for reporting from some of the most hazardous places in Syria’s five years old war. Hadi Al Abdullah is a Syrian citizen journalist and activist who belongs to a lower-middle-class family.

India’s first LNG-powered bus rolls out in Kerala

India’s first liquefied natural gas-driven bus has been launched in Kerala. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister DharmendraPradhan and Kerala Chief Minister PinarayiVijayan jointly flagged off the first pilot run eco-friendly bus.
