- Note : Nepal is ranked first with warnings on 90% of the tobacco packs.
- Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, who is scheduled to arrive in India on 15th November 2016, will attend a ceremony commemorating the victims of the 26/11 terrorist attack in the Taj Hotel, Mumbai.

- Important Note : Rivlin's state visit to India would mark the first by any Israeli President since 1996.

- Today (11th November) is National Education Day.

- This day is observed to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India, who served from 15 August 1947 until 2 February 1958.
- The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved "Mukhya Mantri Shikshak Samman Yojana," which provides a one-year extension in service and cash incentive to teachers who would give 100% results consistently for five years.

- The scheme would be applicable to trained graduate teachers, post-graduate teachers, headmasters, and principals. The scheme is aimed at motivating the teachers.
Science & Technology
- Kumbakonam-based City Union Bank today launched India's first banking robot called Lakshmi.

- The artificial intelligence powered robot, which will be the first on-site bank helper, can speak English, gesture, and engage in a life-like manner in conversations.
- Further, the robot can answer intelligently on more than 125 subjects including account balance and interest rates on loans.
MOUs & Agreements
- India's PM Narendra Modi and Japan's PM Shinzo Abe have signed the Civil Nuclear Deal between the two countries.

- The agreement will allow Japan to supply nuclear fuel and technology to India.
- The deal comes after six years of negotiations and was delayed by the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant disaster in Japan.
Business & Economic Affairs
- India's Ambani family of the Reliance Group has ranked 3rd on the Forbes list of Asia’s 50 Richest Families of 2016, with a wealth of $25.8 billion.

- Note : The list was topped by South Korea’s Lee family of the Samsung Group.
- Egypt has secured $2 billion in financing from international banks.

- The funds were provided against "the entire amount of the newly issued Arab Republic of Egypt dollar-denominated sovereign bonds with different maturities".
- This comes a day before the IMF meets to consider Egypt's $12 billion loan request, which could ease dollar shortage in the country.

- Former world number one Roger Federer won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award at the ATP awards today, for the 12th time in his career.

- The award is given to players who display the "spirit of the sport" on the court.
- Roger Federer also won the Fans' Favourite Award for the 14th consecutive time in his career.
- British photographer Shaun Jeffers has won the landscape category at the 'New Zealand Geographic, Photographer of the Year' awards, for his shot of the glowworms at the Waitomo Glowworm Caves.
- Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung was conferred an honorary doctorate degree by the Amity University in Uttar Pradesh.

- Chancellor Atul Chauhan conferred the degree in Philosophy on Jung for his "outstanding contribution as an administrator and a brilliant academician who has shown utmost sincerity and humility in political and social endeavors".
Deaths
- Legendary Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard Cohen (82) has passed away.

- Born on September 21, 1934, Cohen was known for his songs like 'Hallelujah', 'Suzanne', and 'So Long, Marianne'.
New Appointments
- Global police organisation Interpol today announced its new president Meng Hongwei, who had earlier served as China's vice minister for public security.

- Hongwei is the first Chinese to hold this position and will serve as Interpol President for four years.
- The 52-year-old Kamala Harris has become the first Indian-American elected to the US Senate.
- India-born Pramila Jayapal has won the Washington State Senate seat to become the first Indian-American woman to be elected to the US House of Representatives
Sports
- Tennis player Maria Sharapova will be reinstated as a UN Goodwill Ambassador, once her reduced 15-month suspension expires in April 2017.

- Sharapova was selected as an ambassador for her work related to the Chernobyl disaster.
