Success Story: Vishnu ViShaL, SBI PO 2016

October 6, 2016

Hello friends,

Name : Vishnu Vishal

Qualification : M.tech (Environmental Engineer)
Success Story Vishnu ViShaL, SBI PO 2016

I am from Andhra Pradesh and i did my graduation in civil engineering (2013) and then i gave GATE exam and got into masters course (2014-2016).

Now coming to why i have opted for Banking being an engineering graduate is that i don’t like to work in private sectors and i didn’t get a chance to work with any PSU’s in my field. Got a decent but low rank in GATE exam to get into PSU’s, but never wanted to give up on my dreams.

So i joined M.tech in NIT Karnataka which is a top college in NIT’s with a huge hope of getting placed in any of the PSU which will regularly visits the campus. At that time banking was never in my thoughts , even though my brother is working in banking sector i never had a thought of opting for it.

Then comes placements and i have been waiting for Coal India Limited(CIL) as it visited our campus the previous 2 years and recruited a good number of people only from my branch. But i got a shock when we got an announcement in march 2016 that CIL is not coming for PG students. That day i got disappointed a lot, dreams shattered and i have no hope of getting into a PSU. I haven’t applied for GATE at-least. Having dreams of getting into public sector i didn’t give a try for private companies and colleges (for lecturing). And i have promised to my parents that i will definitely get a good govt job by the completion of my studies. Thinking of what to opt next, i thought of applying for government jobs. And applied for CGL.
Then comes the recruitment of SBI.
My brother motivated me in applying for SBI . I have seen the notification, the scheme and syllabus of the exam and i got interest in it. The first thing i got attracted to is the fast recruitment process. The “September 30″ deadline for the final result i just loved that and i applied the very second day of applying date. I never worried about the prelims syllabus. As i have studied total maths in my engineering.

  • I had solved the quantitative aptitude by R.S.Agarwal during my GATE preparation .
  • For reasoning i have learnt how the questions will be and how we have to practice for it all in the “Grade-up” app only (Thanks to free wifi of “NIT”).
  • Frankly speaking i had never practiced or studied anything for English (This may hurt people ,but its true from my side) .

Then in the June month i got totally busy with my project work and allotted very less time for my practice. And finally my prelims exam on July 3rd. I went with an aim of attempting at-least 70. But attempted very less number 52. Then the next 15 days i totally forget that i have given an SBI exam. The result day my brother called and asked me to see the result. I was surprised that i got selected for mains exam and got a score of 48.75. At this point i got full confidence and the result boosted my focus. The mains exam on July 31. I had given my full potential. Studied all the materials whatever available in the online. Static G.k, one liners, tornado’s and did a lot of quizzes.

Here i would like to thank the people who posted numerous quizzes in the app. Then i went with a huge confidence to the exam, but what happened there is next to my imagination. What i had practiced and what i have seen in exam is not related at a maximum. Having an attitude of attempting only questions what i know really helped me here.
I attempted 84 in total .
Reasoning -27
D.I -13
English -16
G.A – 28
Then i came to know that the exam was really tough compared to previous years so cutoff will be less and all this stuff . I hope i get through the next phase as i am sure about my accuracy. The result day i was so happy to see my roll number in the list. Now comes the GD PI phase, here my brother and my friend (canara bank p.o) played a huge part in my preparation. Their tips and their suggestions helped me in preparing in a perfect way for the GD PI.

The interview day i was so nervous, because this is my first interview in public sector banks and i had a lot of things in my mind running like – ” they will definitely screw you , as you are an engineer why you want to join banks ” and whatever the answers i have prepared to defend myself all gone into vain on the interview day. The GD was really good, my batch was good (9 members) and a healthy discussion happened through.

The interview (Bangalore), to me surprise they were asking simple questions related to my profile, the first question i got after sitting on chair –

1. “Don’t you play sports ?” (I was like now what’s this, no “tell me about yourself ?”) as i was practicing for it outside. Then they asked me 5 Gk questions, i answered only 2.

2. They asked “duties of prime minister” (did i applied for any parliament job ?)

3. Then i sense that the panel head is satisfied with the answers.

4. The lady HR asked me to explain any dish that i cook (i kept hobby as cooking) . Here comes my part i explained them very neatly as in t.v shows. Some questions related to my home town. “Now u can leave “( its not even 10 mins) .No banking question, no current topics. Totally myself analysis in GD was good PI above average.

Seriously i waited for September 30 like i never waited for any day in my life. Having 50-50 chances with less attempts in mains. I opened the pdf and i know if my roll no is there it will be on the first column (as it starts with 130). i found it. My happiness reached the sky. Am really happy that i made it. My friends , family members everyone felt proud of me .

Believe in Yourself for a sure success

A perfect strategy planning and its implication takes the lion’s share in anybody’s success.

All the best .

Thanks
