Solutions:
). c) Certain words describing location do not need prepositions as they are self describing. ‘Downstairs’ is such a word. Thus the correct sentence should read – ‘He heard the noise repeatedly so he headed downstairs to investigate.’ The ‘to’ in the third part of the sentence in redundant and thus the error is in the third part of the sentence.
). d) Articles are never used with the names of language. Thus the sentence must read – ‘Since the business was expanding to China he wanted to learn Chinese.’ The error is in the fourth part of the sentence
). c) There is a wrong use of conjunction in this sentence. To suggest a negative alternative without the use of an imperative the conjunction ‘or’, ‘otherwise’ should be used. The sentence should thus read – ‘The general public liked the movie or/otherwise it would not have been such a success.’ Thus the error is in the third part of the sentence.
). b)‘On his disposal’ is wrong usage of preposition. The correct preposition is ‘at’ which means MS Dhoni can make use of the new bowler. ‘On his disposal’ implies that disposal is a place and that is incorrect making the second part of the sentence erroneous.
). c) The revenue has already ‘doubled’ in the past. Hence, ‘nearly doubles’ in the present tense is wrong usage in the third part of the sentence
