Day 57 : Pro, Por,Pur

  • Pro, Por, Pur - forward; forth
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • proceed (verb) = to continue doing something that has already been started.
    • pro - Prefix = forward
    • ceed (cedere) - Root = go
  • purpose (noun) = the intention, aim or function of something 
    • pur (pro) - Prefix = forward
    • pose (ponere) - Root = put
Let's have a look at some more words with prefixes, for better understanding.
  • portent - a warning about the future
  • portray - to show somebody / something in a picture
  • pro and con - ‘for’ and against
  • pro bono - ‘for’ the common good
  • pro - short for ‘professional’
  • pro-Apple - ‘for’ Apple products
  • procrastinate - put off or ‘forward’ into tomorrow
  • product - that which is led ‘forward’ by a company to sell
  • professional - one who has put ‘forth’ knowledge or advanced skills to the public
  • progress - step ‘forward’
  • project - to throuw forward
  • promise - send an intention ‘forward’
  • promote - to move forward
  • prompt - done without delay
  • pronoun - part of speech which stands in place of or ‘for’ a noun
  • propellant - fuel which pushes a vehicle ‘forward’
  • pursue - to do something or try to achieve something over a period of time
  • purview - the area of responsibility or influence that a person or organization has
