Hello frndz,
Sharing my SBI PO GD- INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE 2016
Date: 1st September 2016
Timing: 10:00 am
Venue: State Bank Learning Centre, Panchkula
The judgment day. Everything seemed so great for me. I reached the room where verification process was on the go. I firmly sat there, in order to have a pre-interview practice. They took great time in investigating my documents, but I was fully prepared for this as well. They found no error so Okay-ed me and asked me to wait in that other room they mentioned. There were candidates, hell yeah! There were candidates. Some were too jovial like they don’t even know what’s going on. Some were too tensed like they will be prosecuted soon. After a while, some officials entered and directed us to the group discussion hall.
It was too dramatic. A big hall with ten chairs arranged in a circular fashion. My serial number was One, like every interview I’ve given before, so I had to initiate the sitting process. Then a panel of two officials came, well dressed and with a firm attitude. Their presence started giving me goose bumps. I somehow managed to keep my cool.
Then one of them, who seemed relatively junior in cadre, started the conversation. “Hello everyone! First of all I want to congratulate you all since you have successfully cleared the two phases of selection process. See! We are here to let you have a healthy discussion about a topic still unknown to me.” He smiled a bit. “There will be two rounds of discussion. In first, you will be given a topic to discuss about. After this discussion, there will be another discussion in which we will give you a sheet with directions, which are self-explanatory. There will be no buzzers, no order of speaking, no restriction of language. You can speak in a manner you desire. We will not interrupt you during the discussion. Do not think that you have to follow rules or anything. We just want to see a healthy discussion here. Now my colleague will enlighten this process in a more explained way.”
Then the other one, who seemed bossy and strict, started. “There will be five minutes after disclosing the topic for you to jot down your points. After which, you will be given twenty minutes to have a discussion. You can use the writing-pads and pencils given to you for writing your ideas. After this discussion, you will be given a sheet for second discussion. That sheet will contain directions and the topic to discuss.” “The time span of five plus twenty minutes will remain same for the second discussion as well.” He added.
“Shall we start?” The first one announced it so energetically that I almost roared, “YESS!!”
The topic given to us was, “Is the technology hampering the human creativity?”
I was happy. I knew that I can talk for days about technology. During the discussion, I made many points related to Arts and culture, Time utilization or Time wastage, Humanoid robots, 3D Printers, and I also given reference of some apps like Prisma, which claims to make artworks by algorithms. Except one or two candidates, everyone was participating in the discussion actively. It was a healthy discussion for me, as I made highest number of points.
Then after few minutes, they gave us sheets. In that sheet, nine problems about a nation were given, and we were expected to give a priority order to them. After which, we had to discuss these problems and reach a consensus. The problems were:
Population, Inflation, Terrorism, Crime, External threats, Food production, Corruption, Natural calamities and one more which I am forgetting.
It was also a good debate, though we did not reach to a proper consensus. But discussion was really healthy this time as well.
Then after a brief Thank you talk, they left, and some other officials asked us to go back to that waiting room. After waiting for nearly half an hour, they called me and two others to follow them. As my name was at first place, I was expecting the same. After sitting on a sofa for 10-15 minutes, they called me in.
“Good afternoon everyone!” I wished as I noticed the time right before entering, it was 12:48 pm.
“Hello Shivaji!” The man in the center said after offering me a seat.
M1: “Tell me why do you want to join a bank after doing engineering?” The same trademarked question he uttered.
Me: “Sir! I want stability and job-security from the profession I choose. For an average engineering student like me, it is difficult to crack IES or go for PSUs through GATE, that’s why I chose banking over engineering.” I answered with a simple tone.
M1: “So you think that SBI will give you the job security you desire?” He asked immediately.
Me: “Yes Sir! That’s why I’ve chosen this sector.” I answered.
M1: “Okay tell me, what is inflation?”
Me: “Sir! The increase in prices is inflation.” I briefly said.
M1: “Can you elaborate?”
Me: “Sir! If there is an increase in the money supply in the market, there will be a boost in consumption. And if consumption increases, prices will increase. This is inflation.”
M1: “How the money supply increases?”
Me: “Sir! Fiscal policy and monetary policy are responsible for this.”
M1: “And who controls these policies?”
Me: “Sir! Fiscal policy is controlled by the central government and RBI is responsible for monetary policy.”
M2: “What is energy efficiency rating?”
Me: I did not know about it so I simply said, “Sorry Sir! I have no idea about it.”
M2: “Okay! Then tell me how to reduce power consumption if I am a common-man.”
Me: “Sir! You can use pure copper wires in connections rather than the copper-aluminum wire which people are using today. This mixing is done to cheapen the wire, but the resistance also increases because of this.”
M2: “Point taken. Tell me more.”
Me: “Sir! To reduce power consumption, one has to stabilize voltage. For voltage stability, you can use transformers…..”
M2: “But I’m a common-man, I don’t know about transformers and voltage stability.” He interrupted.
Me: “Sir! You can use LED lights and CFLs in place of traditional tube lights.”
M3: “You have mentioned performing own social responsibilities as one of your hobby, what exactly do you do in it?”
Me: “Sir! During my college years, I with some of my friends started an NGO ROOH, for providing financial aid to children of mess-workers for their school fees. But because of some rules in the Societies’ act, we were required to have a permanent office. As we did not have any place to call our office, the college suggested us to make ROOH a college society, and now ROOH is a full-fledged college society.” I was very happy while talking about this.
M4: “What is the difference between Electrical Engineering and Electronics Engineering?”
Me: “Sir! Electronics is basically a derivative of Electrical Engineering. In Electrical, we operate in a broader approach. The area of consideration in Electronics is comparatively very small.”
M4: “Is there any difference related to the amount of parameters in it?”
Me: “Yes Sir!” I thought how I can forget about this point. “In Electrical, we talk about Mega-amperes etc. But in Electronics, we take micro-amperes in our consideration.”
F: “You were talking about social responsibilities; Do you know what is CSR?”
Me: “Yes Ma’am! Corporate Social Responsibility.” I answered. “If any corporate firm makes profit from a nation, then it is the duty of that firm to devote some of the profit for the humanitarian works in that nation.”
F: “Do banks have to obey the CSR norms?”
Me: “Yes Ma’am! They have to give 2% of total profits earned.”
F: “Are you sure about this?”
Me: “Yes Ma’am! In fact I had a discussion about this with my teacher a few days ago. He said that banks do not have to follow CSR norms. Then I read many news articles and came to know that last year, the Finance ministry gave a proposal to the Corporate affairs ministry to exclude the banks from CSR obligations as the banks are facing high NPAs and they need capital to overcome their loss. But the Corporate ministry rejected this proposal.”
F: Okay!“Thank you! You may go now.”
Me: “Thank you for your time everyone!” I wished them and came out of the room.
It was an exciting experience for me. From staff to other candidates, everyone was cooperating. SBI officials gave me 3-tier AC fare and a coupon for lunch in their mess. After all this, I went back to the other candidates and shook hands with them. I wished them luck and came out of the SBI premises.
Thanks!!

Hello frndz,
Sharing my SBI PO GD- INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE 2016
SBI Interview Review:-
Reach the venue on time
4 copies of biodata form and one set of self attested photocopies of required documents
Take original documents as well
Note:- Take 12th pass certificate too as it is not mentioned in the enclosure list but they were asking for it.
Those students who did not have all documents or photocopies were sent back to arrange those in 15 min
Pray to GOD that your biometric fingerprint gets verified by the machine. Few candidates had problem as the machine was not able to verify their fingerprints(they might have placed the thumb inappropriately). They were telling that we can’t help in this….if machine doesn’t verify your fingerprints then we can’t allow you to attend the interview.
I don’t know what happened with those few candidates as my panel was taken for GD round.
A general GD topic was given.
Try to convey some points in the GD.
The GD panel was very cooperative.
One more GD exercise was given to us….not to worry about it….just have fun while GD and don’t involve in aggressive talks with other candidates….be calm.
Then interview round begin. Panel personnel were outsiders and not SBI employees(a guy working in SBI told us). I was asked questions from my graduation subject. Some candidates were asked current affairs and Static Gk too. A few banking questions were also asked.
Overall experience: Good…..just be yourself and read a few things related to your graduation subject as well.
All the best to everyone.
Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
BOB Manipal PO 2016 Exam is round the corner and hope you all are well prepared to crack this one. This exam is similar to every other banking exam and has four sections followed by a descriptive test:
- Quantitative Aptitude
- Reasoning
- English Language
- General Awareness
- Descriptive Test
Hope you all know the pattern of the exam but here we are providing you the exam pattern once again to make sure that you don’t have any kind of doubt regarding the same.
Many of the students find it tough to score in Quantitative Aptitude section but proper idea about the questions can help a lot to get through with this section. As we can see that all the sections carry equal weightage and the level of exams is increasing so it becomes essential to score good in all the sections. This can become a bit easier if we know the expected questions from each of the topics beforehand.
Here is the analysis of previous year’s Quant section of BOB Manipal PO Exam.
- Data Interpretation – 20 Questions
- Data Sufficiency – 5 Questions
- Quadratic Equations – 5 Questions
- Approximation – 5 Questions
- Series – 5 Questions
- Miscellaneous – 10 Questions
So let us see the type of questions that are asked from these topics:
1.Data Interpretation – This is one of the parts of Quant section which needs proper time. The most important thing that one should realise is that these questions are in the paper to check our observation and calculation both. Firstly, look at the data carefully, understand the small specifications and then look at the type of questions asked and It can be done within a minute. Now we have an idea of the complete data and the related questions so now it’s the time for some calculations.
So we can say that a set of data interpretation questions are basically the normal questions using the huge amount of data given in the form of pie chart/ bar chart/ line chart/ tabular form etc.
Directions: Study the following table carefully and answer the questions given below:
The number of persons visiting six different temples and percentage of Men, Women and Children visiting those temples.
Q.The number of men visiting Temples S approximately what per cent of the total number of person visiting all the temples together?
- 8%
- 12%
- 5%
- 15%
- None of these
Solution:
Total number of men visiting Temples S
= (56800*45)/100 = 25560
Total number of person visiting all the temples
= (34500+72500+45600+56800+42500+64600) = 316500
Required percentage = (25560*100)/316500 = 8%
Q.What is the average of women visiting all the Temples together?
- 25692
- 25212
- 25292
- 22292
- None of these
Solution:
Total number of women visiting all the Temples
(34500*55)/100 + (72500*45)/100 + (45600*42)/100 + (56800*28)/100 + (42500*65)/100 + (64600*58)/100
= (18975+32625+19152+15904+27625+37468) = 151749
Required average = 151749/6 = 25291.5 = 25292
2.Data Sufficiency – In these questions, we have to check whether the given statements can give us the answer for the question or not.
Q.What is the present ratio of the total number of Male to the total number of Female in a bank?
I. There are 4500 employees in the bank, out of which 30% are Female.
II. The ratio of the total number of Female to the total number of Male last year was 5 : 7.
1. If the data in both statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.
2. If the data in both the statement I and II together are necessary to answer the question.
3. If either of the data in statement I alone or in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question.
4. If the data in statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
5. If the data in statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
Solution:
Only statement I is sufficient but II is not sufficient.
3.Quadratic Equation – The questions from this topic consist of a single variety of questions generally. One quadratic equation in variable x and another quadratic equation in variable y is given. We have to solve the equations individually to find out the value of x and y both. After finding the values, we have to choose one option out of given options which consist of relation between both variables i.e.
x>y,
y>x,
x≥y,
y≥x
x=y or relation can’t be established.
Q. Find out the relation between x and y.
I.x2 -23x + 132 = 0
II.y2 – 25y +84 = 0
Solution:
x2 –(11x+12x)+ (11*12) = 0
x2 -11x-12x+ (11*12) = 0
x(x-11) -12(x-11) = 0
(x-11)(x-12) = 0
x= 11 and 12
y2 – (21y+4y)+(21*4) = 0
y2 – 21y – 4y + (21*4) = 0
y(y-21) – 4(y-21) = 0
(y-21)(y-4) = 0
y = 4 and 21
As we can see that one value of y is less than both values of x and another value of y is more than both values of x. So no relation can be established between x and y.
4.Approximation – Simplification means to find out a final answer for a complex calculation.
Simplification questions are asked to check the ability of a student to deal with numbers.
Direction: What approximate value should come in place of the question mark (?) in the following question? (You are not expected to calculate the exact value)
Q.21.003 × 39.998 – 209.91 = 126 × ?
Solution:
Take nearest values
21.003 × 39.998 – 209.91 = 126 × ?
630 = 126 × ?
? = 5 (approx)
Q. 1440.0003 ÷ 23.999 × 2.5 × 3 = ?
- 450
- 500
- 420
- 360
- 520
Solution:
Take nearest values
1440.0003 ÷ 23.999 × 2.5 × 3 = ?
60 × 2.5 × 3 = 450 (approx)
5. Number Series – As the name suggests that we have numbers which are written in a sequence thus making a ‘Number Series’. These numbers are written in a sequence because they follow a specific pattern. So we have to observe the pattern.
Generally two types of questions can be asked from number series:
- Sometimes, a series is given and one of the numbers is missing from the series. To find out the missing number, we have to observe the pattern followed by given numbers in series. This pattern is followed by the missing number as well which helps us in identifying the missing number.
Q.Find out the missing number: 1, 3, 9, 31 , ? , 651
Solution:
1*1+2 = 3
3*2+3 = 9
9*3+4 = 31
31*4+5 = 129
129*5+6 = 651
- Sometimes all the numbers of the series are given but one of the numbers doesn’t follow the pattern followed by rest of the numbers of the series. So we have to identify the pattern to eliminate inappropriate/wrong number in the series.
Q.Find out the wrong number in the series: 26, 37, 50, 63, 82
Solution:
52+1 = 25+1 = 26
62+1 = 36+1 = 37
72+1 = 49+1 = 50
82+1 = 64+1 = 65
92+1 = 81+1 = 82
As we can see that number 63 in the series doesn’t follow the pattern followed by other numbers. So this is the wrong number in the series and it will be our answer for this question.
6. Miscellaneous – This part of Quantitative Aptitude section has a variety of questions from various topics. So students must be well aware of the basic concepts of each of the topics given below:
- Work & Time
- Speed, Time & Distance (Problem on trains, boats & streams)
- Simple & Compound Interest
- Profit & Loss
- Ratio & Proportion (Problems on Partnership, Ages)
- Permutation & Combination
- Probability
- Percentage & Averages
- Mixture & Allegations
Q.Mr. A and Mrs. B have two sons P and Q and a daughter R. R is the youngest among the three children. Mrs. B is five years younger than Mr. A. The ages of the children form an Arithmetic Progression whose common difference is 1. The sum of the ages of the male members is 92 while that of the female members of the family is 67. What is the sum of the ages of Mr. A and Mrs. B?
- 100
- 95
- 115
- 105
- 90
Solution:
Let age of children be a-1, a, a+1
==> a-1 + B = 67 (ages of females)
==> 2a + 1 + A = 92 (ages of males)
also, A = B+5 (A is 5 yrs older than B)
Solving ==> B = 50, A = 55, A+B = 105
Thanks
