IMPORTANT DAYS
International Translation Day: 30 September

i. The International Translation Day is being observed today on 30 September across The world with the theme "Translation and Interpreting: Connecting Worlds".
This is the annual event for the translation community and event is marked with a series of dedicated events, seminars and symposiums across the world.
ii. Established by the International Federation of Translators (FIT), the annual celebration of the International Translation Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of translators who endeavor to make the world a slightly smaller place by breaking down language barriers.
Parrikar inaugurates 35th Coast Guard Commanders' conference
i. Defence Minister ManoharParrikar inaugurated the 35th Coast Guard Commanders Conference at Coast Guard Headquarters (New Delhi).
The three-days conference is organised for aims to carve out a futuristic vision for the service and to determine the modalities to overcome the challenges efficiently.
ii. Parrikar appreciated the efforts of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) in augmenting maritime and coastal security not only by deployment of assets but also by efficient exploitation of Coastal Security Network Phase I and expressed hope that CSN Phase II would also be implemented on time.
Railways: 33%Quota to Women in Railway Catering
The Indian Railways introduced a sub-quota of 33 per cent for women in allotment of each of the reserved catering units.
The introduction of new policy providing sub-quota of 33 per cent to women in catering units is a step towards women empowerment and their increased participation in the railways.
33 per cent sub-quota reservation for women shall ensure allotment of minimum 8 per cent stalls to women at A1, A, B and C category rail stations and minimum 17 per cent at D, E and F category stations.
One lakh villages will become Open Defecation Free (ODF)
one lakh villages will become Open Defecation Free (ODF) and 40 Districts will achieve the status of ODF Districts in this financial Year. At present 87, 666 villages are ODF, apart from 1,544 villages in NamamiGange areas.
This needs to be underlined that the sanitation coverage was 42.12 percent on 2nd October, 2014, when the programme was launched, which has now increased to 55.31 percent, while 24 Districts have been declared as ODF ones.
Sikkim is the only State which has achieved the ODF status, and Kerala, Haryana, Gujrat and Maharashtra will soon achieve the ODF status.
Sindhudurd District of Maharashtra was declared as best swachh district while, Patan in Gujrat bagged the award for best swachh iconic place. Gangtok in Sikkim was adjudged as the best Tourist Place in the country.
Arunachal Pradesh: CM flags off all-women Mt Gorichen Expedition
In Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister PemaKhandu flagged off the all-women Mt Gorichen Expedition from his office premises in Itanagar.
This will be the first all women team attempting to summit Mount Gorichen the second highest peak of Arunachal Pradesh. It'saltitude is 6488 mtr high above sea level.
AnshuJansempa, who has climbed Mt Everest twice is leading the team of 10 members from Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh with four support staff.
Unified District Information System for Education (U-DISE) Day observed across Nagaland
Unified District Information System for Education (U-DISE) Day-cum-sensitization on implementation of student data collection was observed across Nagaland today.
U-DISE exercise is a mandatory exercise with direct instruction from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, and impressed upon all the Head of Institutions to take the exercise seriously and furnish the accurate data.
Resource persons sensitizing on the programme said that U-DISE is a database where correct information of a child should be given.

India-Canada Annual Ministerial Dialogue
The third India-Canada Annual Ministerial Dialogue was held between the Commerce and Industry Minister MrsNirmalaSitharaman and the Trade Minister of Canada MsChrystia Freeland at Toronto.
The discussion covered outstanding trade and investment related issues and among other things, focussed on expanding bilateral trade, having more B 2 B interface with constitution of CEO Forum by Canada and regular interaction between the CEOs on both sides and also expediting the free trade and investment negotiations which are underway.
This was the first high level meet led by a Ministerial level delegation from India after the new Government came to power in Canada.
Vice President Hamid Ansari to address National Assembly of Mali
Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari will address the National Assembly of Mali in capital Bamako.
AIR correspondent reports that Mr Ansari will also call on President Ibrahim Keita today before leaving for home in the evening.

Monetary Policy Committee Notified
Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) constitution under the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, has been notified.The MPC, in which three members are from the RBI and three others from the government, will target to keep inflation at 4 percent with an upper and lower tolerance level of 2 percent.
The government had named three academics to join RBI Governor Urjit Patel, his deputy in charge of monetary policy R Gandhi and central bank executive director Michael Patra on the MPC.
Indian Statistical Institute Professor ChetanGhate, Delhi School of Economics Director PamiDuaand IIM-Ahmedabad Professor RavindraDholakia are also members of MPC.
Enforcement Directorate (ED)  attaches Rs.235-cr. assets of Tayal Group
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth Rs.235 crore of the Tayal Group companies in connection with the cases registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Immovable assets worth Rs.233 crore and 19 bank accounts with deposits of Rs.1.6 crore belonging to Tayal group have beeen attached provisionally under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, according to the ED.
The Directorate said the CBI’s Kolkata unit had initiated investigations on the basis of a complaint from UCO Bank in connection with K. Life Style & Industries Ltd, Global Softech Ltd and Tayal Energy Ltd. It was alleged that companies defrauded the bank to the extent of Rs.296 crore and siphoned of the said funds.
Yes Bank to raise Rs.2,500 cr. via long-term bonds
Private sector lender Yes Bank plans to raise up to Rs.2,500crore by issuing long-term bonds on a private placement basis.
“The bank proposes to raise funds by issuing senior unsecured listed rated redeemable long-term bonds in the form of debentures amounting to Rs.1,000 crore, with a green shoe option for an additional amount up to Rs.1,500 crore on a private placement basis,” it said in a regulatory filing.
The bank has already received approvals from the board of directors and shareholders to borrow or raise funds up to Rs.10,000crore in Indian or foreign currency by issue of debt securities and through various other instruments.
Yes Bank said Rs.10,000crore could be raised in one or more tranches on private placement basis from time to time. Among others, the bank can also float instruments such as non-convertible debentures

GST Council to finalise registration, refunds & payment rules
GST Council at its meeting will finalise the rules regarding registration, refunds and payment and also take a view on exemption of goods under the upcoming Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. Finance Minister ArunJaitley will chair the meet.
The Council will also deliberate on a formula for payment of compensation to states for revenue loss in the aftermath of implementation of the GST. AIR correspondent quoting official sources reports, the meeting is likely to finalise on the rules on GST and also a presentation will be made by the officials on compensation.
While 2015-16 will be the base year for calculating revenue compensation to states for any loss of receipts arising from rollout of GST, the final methodology will be worked out in meeting. The Central government plans to roll out GST from April 1, 2017, and has lined up meetings of the GST Council to build consensus among the states.
India embarking on significant reforms & will grow more than 7%: IMF
International Monetary Fund, IMF, has said India is embarking on significant reforms and will grow at more than 7 per cent. Speaking at an event in United States, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said, China is rightly re-balancing its economy, albeit slower growing economic model but it will continue to grow at a robust rate of about 6 per cent.
She said, India too will be embarking on significant reforms, at more than 7 per cent. Recently, Asian Development Bank also said India's economy will remain on a strong growth path this fiscal and clock a growth of 7.4 per cent, following implementation of key structural reforms, robust consumer demand and higher agricultural output driven by a good monsoon.
India has adopted structural reforms to attract more foreign direct investment and passed a legislation to allow a national tax that will create a more integrated and productive economy. The government intends to implement the Goods and Services Tax from 1st of April next year.

Karnataka Bank inks distribution pact with Birla Sun Life AMC
Karnataka Bankhas inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Birla Sun Life Asset Management Company for distribution of mutual fund products.
Birla Sun Life MF, will provide all market mutual fund plans through the branches of the bank.
LIC Mutual Fund Asset Management Company has also tied up with Karnataka Bank for distribution of its mutual fund products. The distribution will be through over 730 branches of the bank across Indi

S. Sivakumarappointed  Law Commission  full-time Member
The government has appointed S. Sivakumar, professor at the Indian Law Institute in New Delhi, as a full-time Member of the 21st Law Commission of India.
The Commission has several important references pending with it, including one on the viability of the Uniform Civil Code and amendments to the Advocates Act to effectively curb misconduct by lawyers. The mandate of the 21st Law Commission also includes recommending obsolete laws to be repealed.
Mr. Sivakumar,who is a recipient of the National Law Day Award in 2008, specializes in Administrative Law and Media Law. His area of interests includesConstitutional Law, Human Rights, IPR, ADR and Clinical Legal Education. Hailing from Kerala, he is the author of several books on law.
President appoints 15 judges to Madras HC
President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday appointed 15 judges to the Madras High Court two months after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended their names to the government

Riyadh Mathew new PTI Chairman, ViveckGoenka, Vice Chairman
Riyadh Mathew,Director of MalayalaManorama, and ViveckGoenka, Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Express, were today unanimously elected Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively ofPTI .
Mathew, who is Senior Assistant Editor and a member of the Manorama management, succeeds Hormusji N. Cama, Director of Bombay Smachar.  Goenka succeeds Mathew as Vice Chairman.
Shakti Sinha to head Nehru Memorial Museum and Library
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of retired IAS officer Shakti Sinha to the post of director, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, putting to rest the controversy following the inclusion of his name to the post.
NMML was established in the memory of India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, NMML is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture.

YashvardhanSinha appointed India’s High Commissioner to UK
Senior IFS officer Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha was appointed as India’s High Commissioner to the UK succeeding NavtejSarna.Sinha, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 1981 batch, is currently serving as India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. Sarna has been appointed as India’s Ambassador to the US.
Earlier this month, the government had appointed 1988- batch IFS officer Taranjit Singh Sandhuas the next High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka to replace Sinha.
Kolakaluri Enoch bags Moortidevi Award
Telugu authorand eminent scholar Prof Kolakaluri Enoch was honoured with the 29th Moortidevi Award 2015 for his novel AnantaJeevanam. The award was given to the author by noted historian DrKapilaVatsyayan
The Moortidevi award has been constituted by the BharatiyaJnanpith whose founder Sahu Shantiprasad Jain named the award after his mother.
The annual literary award was established in 1983 and honours those working in the field of Indian literature, culture and philosophy. Among those present at the occasion were BharatiyaJnanpith managing trustee SahuAkhilesh Jain and board trustee SahuSwadeshBhushan Jain.
Tirupati Airport named most tourist friendly airport
The Tirupati Airport in Renigunta has been given the 'Best Tourist Friendly Airport' award under the category of 'State Annual Excellence Awards (2015-16)' by Andhra Pradesh Tourism.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu presented the award on the eve of World Tourism Day on September 27. The state tourism awards are awarded for maintaining friendly relations with passengers.

Sports Sector Gets Infrastructure Status
For addressing the issue of deficit of sports infrastructure in the country, the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Affairs had moved a proposal for inclusion of Sports in the harmonized master list of infrastructure sub-sectors so that the sports sector becomes eligible for obtaining long term financial support from banks and other financial institutions on the same principle as is available to other infrastructure projects.
The Ministry of Finance after a series of meetings and discussions with different agencies including RBI have decided that sports infrastructure will be included under the Harmonized Master List of Infrastructure Sub-sectors and that it “includes the provision of Sports Stadia and Infrastructure for Academies for Training / Research in Sports and Sports-related activities”.
In this connection Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs, had issued a Gazette Notification dated 09th September 2016. This inclusion would encourage private investment in a public good which has socio-economic externalities in a country with young population.
It will also bolster investment in sports infrastructure sector which will contribute to the economy and help in promotion of health and fitness of the people of this country as also provide opportunities for employment in the new and exciting sectors. It goes without saying that investment of the private sector will widen the platform from where the country can become a sporting power in future.
India wins the Under-18 hockey Asia Cup
India won the Under-18 Asia Cup hockey tournament on Friday after beating hosts Bangladesh 5-4 in the final. After the score line was tied at 4-4, Indian colts scored their fifth goal in the final twenty seconds of the match to clinch the title.
The Indian team had beaten Pakistan 3-1 earlier this week to enter the final.
Bangladeshi author Syed ShamsulHaq passed away
Bangladeshi author Syed ShamsulHaq passed away in Dhaka. He was 81. He was an accomplished short-story writer, novelist, playwright and a very popular poet
Haq received the prestigious Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1966, Ekushey Padak in 1984 and the highest civilian award, the Swadhinata Padak, in 2000 for his outstanding contributions to Bengali literature.
