World Maritime Day: 29TH SEPTEMBER

i. World Maritime Dayis being observed annually on 29 September across the world. The World Maritime Day theme for 2016 is "Shipping: indispensable to the world".
ii. The theme has been chosen to focus on the critical link between shipping and global society and to raise awareness of the relevance of the role of IMO as the global regulatory body for international shipping.
World Heart Day: 29TH SEPTEMBER
i. World Heart Dayis being observed annually on 29 September across the world.  World Heart Day was founded in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death.
ii. Theme for the World Heart Day 2016 is 'Light Your Heart, Empower Your Life'.
Tripura registers highest unemployment rate in 2015-16
i. According to the latest annual survey on employment conducted by Labour Bureau, Tripura had the highest unemployment rate of 19.7% in 2015-16.
ii. It was followed by Sikkim with an unemployment rate of 18.1% and Lakshadweep with 16.1%.
iii. In contrast, Daman and Diu had the lowest unemployment rate of 0.3%, followed by Gujarat (0.9%) and Karnataka (1.5%).
Mumbai is the wealthiest city in India
i. India's financial capital Mumbai, which is worth over Rs 52 lakh crore, is the wealthiest city in the country, according to the New World Wealth Report.
Mumbai is also home to 45,000 millionaires and 28 billionaires, the report added. Mumbai is followed by Delhi (around Rs 30 lakh crore) and Bengaluru (around Rs 21 lakh crore) at the second and third places respectively.
MP's Gwalior is the most polluted Indian city: WHO
i. Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior is the most polluted Indian city in terms of air pollution, according to a World Health Organisation report.
ii. Indians living outside the Himalayan belt and Kashmir are exposed to air pollution beyond the WHO safe limits, the report added. Notably, Delhi does not feature in the list of the top ten most polluted Indian cities.
Mehbooba Mufti & Union Minister DharmendraPradhanlaunchUjjwalaYojana in State
i. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti and Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, DharmendraPradhan launched the PradhanMantriUjjwalaYojana (PMUY) in the State.
ii. The scheme was launched at two separate functions organized at Srinagar and Jammu. Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region in the PMO, DrJitendra Singh was also present on the occasion.
iii. Petroleum Minister assured that LPG would be made available to everyone in the State. He said in next two years no home in J&K would be without LPG connection. The Union Minister also announced that a new LPG bottling plant would be started in Kargil, while gas production would be increased in Leh.
iv. Speaking at the function, DrJitendra Singh stressed on the need to focus on development of J&K. He said that present dispensation, both at State as well as at Centre, are committed for the overall development of J&K, adding, whatever, the situation would be people should never suffer.
Gujarat APMCs Linked With ‘e-NAM’
i. 40 Agriculture Produce Market Committee’s (APMC’s) of Gujarat were linked to e-National Agriculture Market (e-NAM). This is one initiative of Prime Minister NarendraModi which will help eliminate middleman and farmers can procure good price of their produce.
ii. Under the e-NAM scheme launched by the Prime Minister on April 14, 240 APMC’s of the country were to be linked through this portal. e-NAM is a pan-India electronic trading portal which networks the existing APMC’s to create a unified national market for agriculture commodities.
iii. The NAM portal provides a single window service for all APMC related information and services. This includes commodity arrivals and prices, buy and sell trade offers, provision to respond to trade offers, among other services.
INTERNATIONAL
US& Vietnam navies begin 7th annual NEA in Da Nang
i. The US and Vietnamese navies have begun the 7th annual Naval Engagement Activity NEA, Vietnam 2016 at Tien Sa Port in Da Nang.
ii. The US Navy said in a press release yesterday that the exercise will focus on non-combatant events and include seminars in military medicine and maritime law as well as subject matter expert exchanges in navigation, shipboard medicine and damage control. 
iii. The exercise will also include Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea and search and rescue scenarios, the release added.
BANKING NEWS
RBL Bank Raises Rs 330 CroreFrom CDC Group Of UK
i. Private lender RBL Bank has raised Rs 330 crore from the UK-based development finance institution CDC Group through Basel III compliant Tier II capital.
ii. The Tier II debt will strengthen the capital base of the bank, which in turn will support its businesses such as SME lending, agribusiness financing and financial inclusion. The infusion will also help the bank expand to new regions, RBL Bank said in a statement.
iii. RBL Bank is an existing CDC investee company - having received Rs 174 crore equity investment in March 2014 and subsequent pre-IPO investment of Rs 44.5crore in October 2015, it said.
BUSINESS NEWS
Oriental Bank to raise Rs 500 cr via Tier 1 bonds
i. Oriental Bank of Commerce plans to raise Tier 1 capital through private placement of Basel III Compliant Additional Tier 1 Bonds aggregating Rs 500 crore. The bonds of the public sector bank will have a face value of Rs 10 lakh each at par.
ii.  The proposed bonds Issue has been rated as 'A+' by CARE Ratings and 'A+ (Hyb.) with Negative Outlook' by ICRA. At about 10.20 am, Oriental Bank shares were trading a tad down at Rs 135.25 on the BSE.
AGREEMENTS &MoUs
Telangana inks MoU with ISRO to promote education
i. The Telangana government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to promote education.
ii. The MoU was inked between Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communication of Telangana and ISRO’s Development & Educational Communication Unit (DECU).
DFCCIL Signs MoU with Railways
i. The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation and the railways have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to fix the target for various projects during 2016-2017.
ii. Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), a government enterprise under the administrative control of the Ministry of Railways, is at present carrying out construction of 3,342km eastern and western freight corridors for exclusively movement of goods trains.
iii. The 1,840km Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor from Ludhiana to Dankuni near Kolkata traverses Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The 1,502km Western Dedicated Freight Corridor from Dadri (Uttar Pradesh) to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (Mumbai) passes through Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana.
Maldives Inks MoU with ASCI
i. Civil Service Commission (CSC) of Maldives signed a MOU with Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) to get short term capacity development training programmes for its officials.
ii. ASCI shall assist CSCto develop training programmes and materials required by CSC and help its curriculum developers/trainers to develop new programmes and materials or adapt ASCI programmes and materials for CSC use.
iii. ASCI shall assist in organising exchange of experts and consultancy service as needed by Maldives Civil Service apart from sharing information, research publication and experiences generated by the institution.

Paytm Founder named 'Best Businessman' at GQ Awards
i. Online payments and m-commerce platform Paytm's Founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma has been named the 'Best Businessman' at the annual 'GQ Men of the Year Awards 2016'. Sharma is the first Indian startup entrepreneur to be on the list. "It validates the efforts of the Paytm team to build India’s first $100 billion firm," said Sharma.
DEFENSE NEWS
Defence Acquisition Council clears proposals worth Rs 1,900 cr
i. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has cleared proposals worth 1,900 crore rupees, including for an electronic warfare system for low intensity conflict in Jammu and Kashmir. An official said, the electronic warfare system is worth 330 crore rupees.
ii. The council, chaired by Defence Minister ManoharParrikar, yesterday also cleared a proposal to buy 405 crore rupees worth of anti-tank guided missiles for training purpose of the army

Cash Awards to Rio Paralympics Winners
i. Cash awards of a total of Rs 90 lakhs for the Rio Paralympics 2016 Medal Winners have been announced by ThawaarchandGehlot, Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment under Awareness Generation and Publicity (AGP) scheme of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
ii. Gold medal winner ShriMariyappanThangavelu and ShriDevendraJhajharia will be awarded Rs 30 lakh cash prize, Silver medallist Ms. Deepa Malik will be facilitated with Rs 20 lakh and ShriVarun Singh Bhati will be honoured with Rs 10 lakh for winning bronze medal at the Rio Paralympics 2016.
Max Walker: former Australian cricketer dies aged 68
i. Former Australian cricketer Max Walker, whose awkward and unorthodox bowling action earned him the nickname ‘Tangles’, passed away on Wednesday. Cricket Australia on Wednesday said Walker died after a battle with cancer.
ii. Walker played 34 Tests between 1972 and ‘77, taking 138 wickets at an average of 27.47, including six five-wicket hauls. He also took 20 wickets in 17 one-day internationals from 1974-81.
