MY STRUGGLE

Friends, I am Sanjay Mishra. I am currently working as a Manager Scale-II in INDIAN BANK a leading public sector bank. I am posted in Golden Rock Branch in Trichy District of Tamil Nadu since February 2014. This is my third posting after Pondicherry and Nagpur (Maharashtra). I have worked in various portfolios of branch banking like Deposits, Clearing, ATM, Internet and Mobile Banking, Pension, Cash Management and, Loans and Advances.

I joined as a PO in INDIAN BANK on 27 August 2012 after clearing IBPS PO- 2011. I just got promoted to SCALE –II (Manager) through the Internal Promotion Process. I achieved this landmark within 3 years of my service.

Before getting into banking I also struggled like you all for one year and seven months before getting my dream profile. For the whole year 2011, I wrote many exams like SBI PO 2011, SBI Clerk 2011, SBI Associates PO 2011, IBPS BANK PO 2011, IBPS BANK Clerk 2011, SSC CGL 2011, LIC AO 2011, NICL AO 2011 etc. I went on practicing and practicing and implementing my strategies with proper time management.

In the year 2012 when SBI Associate, IBPS PO and IBPS Clerk results were out I cleared SBI Associate with 144 marks, IBPS PO 2011 with 165 Marks and IBPS Clerk 2011 with 183 marks in General Category and after appearing in interviews, I got offer letters from INDIAN BANK, UCO BANK, DENA BANK, SYNDICATE BANK and PUNJAB & SIND BANK for PO and BOI, BOB for clerical post. I was not able to clear GD & Interview of SBI Associates PO. Since I got the first call from INDIAN BANK, I joined INDIAN BANK.

I used to daily solve 1 full length Test Paper for PO and used to daily analyse and discuss my results within my group of friends and with my teachers. Also I used to implement my strategies for every section with proper time management. I never gave up until I achieved my dream goal.

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure”- Bill Cosby

Here are some tips which will enhance your performance and help you to gain success:-

1. Decide Your Dream Goal-

Most of aspirants don’t know what their dream goal is. If you really want to become a BANK PO then make it specific, write it down, and give it a timeline. Then start working upon it honestly and with full dedication.

2. Plan and Make Effective Strategies

You should do effective planning and make a working strategy to reach your dream goal. You should join a coaching institute for better guidance and enrol for weekly Test series. Study in small dedicated groups and always keep zeal to attain success. Try to read “The Hindu” and “The Economic Times” newspaper daily and make your daily notes. Read banking magazines like Pratiyogita Darpan, BSC Chronicle and other important bank magazines. Go through the RBI, IIBF site regularly and always jolt down important points.

“Failure is the key to success; each mistake teaches us something” – Morihei Ueshiba

3. Practice and only Practice-

Practice is the key to success. Daily practice each section of your syllabus with proper time management. Practice at least 3 full length test papers every week. Also try to practice each section of Quants, Data Interpretation, English, Reasoning GK and Computer regularly. Find out the areas you are weak in and do more questions from those sections. If you have doubts, ask your teachers, friends, mentors, anyone you can. No doubt is too small if it is coming in the way of your dream.

Join Test series and analyse your performance after attempting every test.

Make a small and focused study group of friends who are also preparing for BANK PO and practice daily with them. Discuss and analyse your mistakes with your teachers and friends. For Descriptive Paper you should enhance and sharpen your writing skills through more and more practice along with time management. Also read regularly on various important topics.

4. Proper Time Management-

In any competitive exam time plays a vital role in the final selection. Effective time management will give you an edge over the others. Through proper time management you can achieve high score and also qualify sectional cutoffs.

While solving test series also you need to allocate proper time for each and every section. Never waste your time on solving questions which are tough or time taking. First try to solve the easy questions and mark the difficult ones to solve at last.

5. Be Self Motivated-

Always be self motivated whatever the situation may be. Never lose hope. Trust on your ability that one day you will achieve your goal. Always read motivational books and articles. Keep away from the people who bring discouragement to you and always find positive people who are further along the path – so they can help lift you and encourage you to keep moving forward.

Focus as often as you can on what you DO want rather than on what you don’t want.

For example, if you are angry or upset about a result that has been recently declared, do your best to be focused on the final selection, and the kinds of results that you would like to see, instead of whatever it is that you do not like about the situation. Always try to give your 200%. Just trust yourself and have faith in God.
