We (eat) our dinner when he (come) to visit us. We were eating dinner when he came to visit us.
Mala told me that her brother (deal) in iron. Mala told me that her brother dealt in iron.
Had he worked hard, he (succeed).  Had he worked hard, he would have succeeded.
