Hello everyone, in our Lesson 26, we learnt about the prefix EuEu  represents the meanings well, pleasant and goodToday we shall see the prefixes ex, e, ec, ef. Happy Reading :)

Day 27 : Ex, E, Ec, Ef

  • ex, e, ec, ef - out of; former
Important Note :  An easy way to remember that the prefix ex- means “out” is through the word exit, for when you exit a room, you go “out” of it.

Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • expect (verb) = to think or believe something will happen or somebody will do something
    • ex - Prefix = out of
    • pect (spectare) - Root = to look
  • effect (noun) = the result of a particular influence
    • ef (ex) - Prefix = thoroughly
    • fect (facere) - Root = do; make
Let's have a look at some more words with ex, e, ec, ef prefixes, for better understanding.
  • eccentric =‘out’ of center
  • eclipse = darken, to hide
  • ecstatic = of standing ‘out’ from a normal emotional state
  • educate = to teach somebody about something
  • effusion = a pouring out
  • eject = to throw out
  • emigrate = move ‘out’
  • emit = send ‘out’
  • eradicate = pull ‘out’ by the root
  • exceed = go ‘out’
  • excel = to be very good to do something
  • exclude = shut ‘out’
  • exit = go ‘out’
  • export = to sell and send goods to another country
  • extend = stretch ‘out’
