In the present competitive scenario English plays a very important role in our day to day life. Thus it is essential to have a sound knowledge and understanding of English vocabulary. So here we are presenting you a list of 10 difficult words from today’s newspapers. This will help you to sail and score good marks in English Language section. We will provide Daily Word List on a regular basis.

Here is today’s list of words

1. Pestilential – adjective – capable of producing a devastating and contagious disease रोगजनक/घातक

Synonyms – noxious, deadly

Antonyms – beneficial, enhancing

E.g. – If you don’t want to inhale the pestilential fumes in the lab, you should wear a protective mask.

2. Altruistic – adjective – sincerely concerned about the well-being of others परोपकारी

Synonyms – charitable, philanthropic

Antonyms – selfish, egocentric

E.g. – The billionaire is an altruistic man who gives away millions of dollars every year to various charities.

3. Sepulcher – noun – a place where one is buried कब्र

Synonyms – grave, vault

E.g. – According to the Bible, Jesus was placed in a sepulcher after dying on the cross.

4. Synthetic – adjective – not pure अवास्तविक

Synonyms – artificial, fake

Antonyms – analytic, real

E.g. – Several religious groups believe science is going too far with the development of synthetic genes.

5. Antithetical – adjective – in direct contrast to an idea विपरीत

Synonyms – opposite, contradictory

Antonyms – same

E.g. – The bill has not passed parliament because the conservative party is antithetical to the liberal party’s proposal.

6. Admonitory – noun – conveying a warning चेतावनीपूर्ण

Synonyms – warning, monitory

Antonyms – favourable, persuasive

E.g. – Throughout the film, the director used admonitory music to create suspense within scenes.

7. Relinquish – verb – to give up छोड़ देना

Synonyms – surrender, give up

Antonyms – hold, keep

E.g. – Once the scandal hit the newspapers, the chairman agreed to relinquish his position voluntarily.

8. Reverberate – verb – to cause effects afterwards गूंजना

Synonyms – resound, echo

Antonyms – yield, allocate

E.g. – If the country continues to stockpile nuclear weapons, it will create fear that could reverberate and start a war.

9. Catastrophe – noun – a disaster of huge proportions प्रलय

Synonyms – disaster, calamity

Antonyms – success, benefit

E.g. – The governor referred to the destructive hurricane as a catastrophe.

10. Theism– noun  belief in the existence of a god or gods, specifically of a creator who intervenes in the universe – थेइज़्म

Synonyms – conviction, denomination

Antonyms – disbelief, secret

E.g. – We have already suggested that theism covers more ground than the name at first may suggest.
