1. Rohit Khandelwal becomes first Indian to win Mr. World title
- Rohit Khandelwal has become the first Indian to win the coveted title of Mr. World at a grand ceremony at Southport Theatre, Floral Hall, The Promenade, South port U.K.
- Khandelwal has become the first Indian and Asian to win the Mr. World title at the competition.
- He received a cash prize of $50,000 on winning this celebrated title.
- Puerto Rico’s Fernando Alberto Alvarez Soto was named the first runner-up and Aldo Esparza Ramirez of Mexico was named the second runner-up.
Know about Rohit Khandelwal:
- Rohit was born in Hyderabad on 19 August 1989.He graduated from Aurora Degree College,Hyderabad.
- He served as ground staff for Spice Jet and technical support assistant at the Dell Computers prior to entering the modelling industry.
- He made his television debut by appearing in the Episode 76 of “Yeh Hai Aashiqui”, an Indian television series.
- In 2015, he won Mr India 2015 contest held on 23 July 2015 at Club Royalty in Mumbai, Maharashta.
2. Nigerian journalist wins BBC World News Komla Dumor Award
- A Nigerian journalist Didi Akinyelure has won the second BBC World News Komla Dumor Award for 2016.
- Didi Akinyelure is a prime-time news anchor in Nigeria and presents business news for CNBC, which broadcasts across the continent.
- Akinyelure is the second recipient of the award, which was established to honour Ghanaian BBC World News presenter Komla Dumor.
- The award was established to honour Komla Dumor, a presenter for BBC World News, who died suddenly aged 41 in 2014.
- The first Komla Dumor Award was won by Ugandan news anchor Nancy Kacungira.

3. Canada to conduct world’s first Zika vaccine test on humans
- A Canadian university will conduct the world’s first Zika vaccine test on humans in the coming days.
- Development of the Zika vaccine has been authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada.
- Until now, vaccines have been tested on mice.
Note:-
- Zika virus is transmitted primarily by mosquitoes and there is no existing treatment or vaccine for it.
- The virus is capable of causing serious birth defects and has traveled quickly through Latin America.

4. All gram panchayats to be connected through OFC by 2018: Govt
- All Gram Panchayats in the country will be connected through Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) by 2018.
- According to IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prashad , centre plans to establish a network infrastructure by connecting all 2 lakh 50 thousand Gram Panchayats through OFC under Digital India Programme.
- This will be done by using an optimal mix of underground fibre, fibre overpower lines, radio and satellite media, for providing broadband connectivity.
- The project will be implemented in three phases, a state-of-the-art Internet with underground OFC in ring architecture is planned to be completed by 2023.
5. Chief Election Commissioner launches SVEEP portal in Hindi
- Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi (ECI) has launched the “SVEEP Portal” in Hindi language.
- SVEEP Portal is a web based application, accessible to the Chief Electoral Officers and all other stakeholders and serves as a window for easy accessibility of various initiatives of the Commission.
- Various initiatives of the commission are like NVSP, Online Voter Competition, information on events, best practices, creative content and other resource material.
6. India to host BRICS Policy Planning Dialogue on July 26 in Bihar
- India will host the BRICS Policy Planning Dialogue on 26th of this month at Patna in Bihar.
- The discussion will take forward the Policy Planning talks initiated under Russia’s Shairmanship last year in line with this year’s theme of Building Responsive, Inclusive and Collective Solutions.
- The dialogue will provide an opportunity for exchange on strategic assessments of international situation and the regional situation of each country.
- This will be the first time that External Affairs Ministry will host an official foreign policy related engagement in Patna.

7. Hockey legend Shahid passes away
- Noted Indian hockey player Mohammed Shahid (56-year) passed away due to multiple organ failure.
- Md. Shahid was the part of the Indian hockey team that won the gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
- He was known for his dribbling skills and was considered one of India’s greatest hockey players.
- Shahid is survived by his wife and twin children.
- He received the Arjuna Award in 1981 and was honored with Padma Shri in 1986.

8. IMF cuts UK growth forecasts for next year after Brexit vote
- The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revised downward its global economic growth forecast for next year after the British people voted to leave the European Union.
- The world economy will expand by 3.4% in 2017, down 0.1 % point from their April report.
- The cut stems from a downward revision of the UK growth projection, which is a downgrade of 0.9 point to 1.3 %.
- According to the IMF, if negotiations between Britain and the EU don’t go smoothly, global growth could be capped at 2.8 %.

9. Malcom Turnbull sworn in as Australia’s PM
- Malcolm Turnbull was sworn in as Australia’s prime minister for another term after a narrow election victory with budget repair and a public vote on same sex marriage among his top priorities.
- He is the 29th and current Prime Minister of Australia and the Leader of the Liberal Party.
- He was subsequently elected in his own right at the 2016 federal election.
10. Steve Elworthy appointed as the Managing Director of 2019 World Cup
- Former South Africa fast bowler Steve Elworthy (51-year) has been appointed as Managing Director of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
- ICC Cricket World Cup will be held in England and Wales in 2019.
- Mr. Elworthy will also have an oversight of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.
- He will responsible for all aspects of the tournament including marketing, logistics, cricket operations, volunteering, and security.

- Elworthy represented South Africa in four Tests and 39 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and took 57 international wickets.
