Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expanded his Union Council of Ministers with 19 new Ministers of State. President Pranab Mukherjee administered oath to these new ministers, and elevated MoS Prakash Javadekar to a Cabinet rank. The top four ministries — Home, Finance, Defence and External Affairs — didn’t see any change. All new joinees are from the BJP, except Ramdas Athavale and Anupriya Patel. The portfolios for the newly inducted ministers will be made known by the Union government later this evening. Here is the list of new ministers and the ministers who have resigned to make way. - With the new inductions, Modi’s council of ministers stands to 78.
- The council of ministers can have a maximum of 82 members.
