1.A person covers 9 km at a speed of 3 km/h, 25 km at a speed of 5 km/h and 30 km at a speed of 10 km/h. Find out average speed for the entire journey.
5 km/h
5.5 km/h
4 km /h
Solution:

2.A person covers the first 1/4 of the distance at 8 km/h, the next 3/5 at 6 km/h and the remaining distance at 15 km/h. Find the average speed during the entire journey.
7 km/h
6 km/h
none of the above
Solution:

3.In one-day cricket match the captain of one of the teams scored 30 runs more than the average runs scored by the remaining six batsmen of that team who batted in the match. If the total runs scored by all the batsmen of that team were 310, how many runs did the caption score?
60
70
50
Cannot be determined
Solution:
3. (b) Let the average of runs made by other 6 batsmen be x
 ∴ Runs made by the captain = x + 30
 ∴ x + 30 + 6x = 310
 7x = 280
 ∴ x = 40
 ∴ Number of runs scored by the captains = 40 + 30 = 70

4.The average of four numbers A, B, C and D is 40. The average of four numbers A, B, E and F is also 40. (A, B are common). Which of the following must be true?
(A + B)≠(C+D)
(C + D) = (E + F)
Either C = E, or F; and D = F = or E
C = E = and D = F
Solution:
4. (b) ∴ A + B + C + D = A + B + E + F C + D = E + F

5.A, B, C and D are four consecutive even numbers respectively and their averaged is 65. What the product of A and D?
3968
4216
4092
4352
Solution:

6.The average salary of all the staff in an office of a corporate house is Rs. 5,000. The average salary of the officers is Rs. 14,000 and that of the rest is Rs. 4,000. If the total number of staff is 500, the number of officers?
10
15
25
50
Solution:
6. (d) Let the number of officers be x,
then number of the rest officials = 500 – x
Now, according to the question, x×14000+(500-x)4000=5000×500
 ⇒x×14+(500-x)4=5×500
 ⇒ 14x + 2000 – 4x = 2500
 ⇒ 10x = 2500 – 2000 = 500
 ⇒ x = 500/10=50

7.A batsman, in his 12th innings, makes a score of 63 runs and thereby increases his average score by 2. The average of his score after 12th inning is:
41
42
34
35
Solution:
7. (a) Let, the average of runs was x till 11 innings.
 ∴ Total runs = 11x
 ⇒ Total run after 12th innings = 11x + 63
 Again, after 12th innings average = (x + 2)
 ⇒ Total run = 12(x + 2)
 Now, according to the question, 12(x + 2) = 11x + 63
 ∴ x = 63 – 24 = 39
 ∴ The average of his score after 12th innings = 39 + 2 = 41

8.In an entrance examination, Ritu scored 56 percent marks, Smita scored 92 percent marks and Rina scored 634 marks. The maximum marks of the examination is 875. What is the average marks scored by all the three girls together?

815
690
643
Solution:
8. (d) Ritu’s marks = 875×56/100=490
 Smita’s marks =875×92/100=805
 Ritu’s marks = 634
 Total marks = 490 + 805 + 634 = 1929
 Average =1929/3=643

9.The average age of 80 boys in a class is 15. The average age of a group of 15 boys in the class is 16 and the average age of another 25 boys in the class is 4. What is the average age of remainings boys in the class?
15.25
14
14.75
Cannot be determined
Solution:
9.(a) Total ages of 80 boys = 15 × 80 = 1200 years
 Total age of 16 boys = 15 × 16 = 240 years
 Total age of 25 boys = 14 × 25 = 350 years
 Average age of the remaining boys =(1200 - (240 + 350))/(80 - (25 + 15) )=610/40 = 15.25 years
