Topic 1 : "Nervous takeoff"
  • Nervous - worried and anxious
  • Takeoff - if an aircraft, bird, or insect takes off, it leaves the ground and begins to fly
  • Aviation - the activity of flying aircraft, or of designing, producing, and keeping them in good condition
  • Unveiled - show or announce publicly for the first time
  • Ado - trouble or difficulty
  • Ticks all the right boxes - fulfils all the necessary requirements
  • Intent - intention or purpose
  • Fast-track - the quickest route to a successful position
  • Harvest - the process or period of getting results of your work
  • Spurring - to encourage an activity or development or make it happen faster
  • Reviving - giving new strength or energy to
  • Defunct - no longer existing, living, or working correctly
  • No-frills -  no extra or unnecessary details
  • Ambitious - having or showing a strong desire and determination to succeed
  • Reform - make changes in something, in order to improve it
  • De-politicisation - to cause something or someone to have no political connections
  • Ought to - have to
  • Populist - representing or relating to the ideas and opinions of ordinary people
  • Gesture - an action that expresses your feelings or intentions
  • Hinterland - a part of the country that is far away from the big city areas
  • Demand-driven - operated, moved, or controlled by demand
  • Subsidising - to pay part of the cost of something
  • Peril - serious and immediate danger
  • Swing - to change
  • Dole - the money that the government gives to people who are unemployed
  • Levy - impose (a tax, fee, or fine)
  • Regime - a particular way of operating or organizing a business
  • Hesitate - to pause before you do something
  • Liberalising - remove or loosen restrictions on something
  • Scrapping - removing from service
  • Manoeuvre - a movement or set of movements needing skill and care
  • Feasible - able to be made, done, or achieved
  • Overseas - related to other countries
  • Unused -  to not be familiar with a particular habit or experience
  • Hinge - attach or join with
  • Sop - something of little importance or value that is offered to stop complaints or unhappiness
  • Tariff - a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports
  • Trajectory - the curved path that an object follows after it has been thrown or shot into the air
  • Determine - to control or influence something directly

Topic 2 : "Merger makes waves, again"
  • Merger - an occasion when two or more things join together to make one larger thing
  • Make waves -  to cause difficulty
  • Massive - large and heavy
  • Black hole - a region in space where gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape
  • Mass -   the amount of matter in any solid object or in any volume of liquid or gas
  • Lasted - continued for a specified period of time
  • Radiated - emited (energy, especially light or heat) in the form of rays or waves.
  • Hence - as a consequence; for this reason
  • Tease out something - to try to get information or understand a meaning that is hidden or not clear
  • Seminal - strongly influencing later developments
  • Witness - to see something happen
  • Precision - the quality of being exact
