1. Sunil Mittal elected Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce
1. The founder chairman of Bharti Enterprises Sunil Mittal was  elected as the chairman of the Paris-based International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The voting for the election of chairman was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
2. With this, he became the 51st chairman of the ICC and the third Indian business leader to be elected as the chief of the ICC in its near 100-year history.
3. Mittal succeed Terry McGraw, Chairman Emeritus of S&P Global, who becomes ICC's Honorary Chairman.ICC also announced that John Denton, Partner and CEO of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, has been elected succeed Mittal as the organisation's First Vice-Chair.

2. India, Namibia sign two MoUs
1. India and Namibia have signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the final leg of President Pranab Mukherjee’s three-nation African visit. These agreements were signed after a bilateral dialogue between President Mukherjee and his Namibian counterpart Hage Geingob. 
2. The two signed MoUs include MoU on Capacity building for civil servants of Namibia. Mou on setting up of centre of excellence in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

3. Union Government approve Ramayana & Krishna Circuits under Swadesh Darshan Scheme
1. The Union Government has approved Ramayana and Krishna Circuits under Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Union Ministry of Tourism. These two tourism circuits were approved in the first meeting of National Committee on Ramayan Circuit and National Committee on Krishna Circuit chaired by Union Tourism and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma.

4. Indian-origin Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir nominated as US Ambassador to Malaysia
1. Indian-origin diplomat Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir was on 17 June 2016 nominated as the next American Ambassador to Malaysia by US President Barack Obama.
2. He will replace Joseph Y Yun, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service

5. China to operationalise the exascale supercomputer Tianhe -3 by 2020
1. China is all set to operationalise the 'exascale supercomputer' by 2020 which will be capable of performing at least a billion billion calculations per second.
The supercomputer will be named Tianhe -3 and it will be operationalised three years before the US plan to install such computers.
2. The development of the ‘exascale supercomputer’ is part of the China’s national plan for the next generation of high performance computers. It will be developed during the 13th Five-Year-Plan period (2016-2020).

6. Kolkata-Ashuganj-Tripura transit facility becomes operational between India and Bangladesh
1. India-Bangladesh transit facility under the revised Inland Water Transit and Trade Protocol became operational between Kolkata-Ashuganj-Tripura on 16 June 2016.
2. The transit facility was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dhaka in June 2015 to boost trade and facilitate seamless movement of goods in the Bangladesh region.
3. The trans-shipment operations were launched at the Ashuganj port with a cargo vessel unloading the maiden consignment to be transported to Tripura through Bangladeshi territory.
4. The first ship from Kolkata carrying 1000 tonnes of steel and iron sheets reached Ashuganj river port in Bangladesh.

7. World Day to Combat Desertification 2016 observed
1. World Day to Combat Desertification (WDCD) 2016 was observed across the world on 17 June 2016. Inclusive cooperation for achieving Land Degradation Neutrality was the theme for the 2016 WDCD.
2. The slogan for the day was Protect Earth. Restore Land. Engage People.
3. The theme focuses on making Land Degradation Neutrality, which is a fundamental solution for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

8. Israel elected as Chair of UNGA’s Legal Committee for the first time
1. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has recently elected Israel to chair its Legal Committee for the first time in the world body’s 71-year history. In this regard, Israel has won the chairmanship of the UN’s legal affairs committee with 109 votes from the 193 member states in a secret ballot. 
2. Israel was a candidate for the regional Western European and Others Group (WEOG). Though the chair of Legal Committee is a largely symbolic and procedural role, but it will give Israel a chance to play a higher profile role in routine affairs at the United Nations.
