  • Thrown - to send suddenly into a particular state or condition
  • Insurgency - an occasion when a group of people attempt to take control of their country by force:
  • Crisis - a time of great difficulty or danger
  • Command - control over something and responsibility for it
  • Chaotic - in a state of complete confusion and disorder
  • Capture - take control over some place by force
  • Territory - an area of land that is considered as belonging to a particular country or person
  • Troops - soldiers on duty in a large group
  • Thwarted - to stop something from happening or someone from doing something
  • Unify - to bring together / combine
  • Bloodshed - killing and violence
  • Drone - a type of aircraft that does not have a pilot but is controlled by someone on the ground
  • Strike - a sudden attack, typically a military one
  • Province - an area that is governed as part of a country or an empire
  • Battleground - a place where a battle is being fought
  • Cohesive - the situation when the members of a group or society are united
  • Predecessor - someone who had a job or a position before someone else
  • Breakaway - an act of separating from a group, especially because of disagreement
  • Faction - a group within a larger group, especially one with slightly different ideas from the main group
  • Successor - someone that comes after another person
  • Resistance - the refusal to accept something
  • Persuade - cause (someone) to believe something / convince
  • Stage - to organize an event
  • Circumstances - events that change your life, over which you have no control
  • Restive - unwilling to be controlled
  • State-of-play - the way in which something is happening or developing
  • Negotiation - discussion aimed at reaching an agreement
  • Hard-nosed - practical and determined / tough-minded
  • Unleash - to suddenly release a violent force that cannot be controlled
  • Eventually - in the end
  • Prompting - the act of encouraging someone to do something
  • Press ahead - to start or continue doing something in a serious way, although it is difficult
  • Complacent - feeling so satisfied with your own abilities or situation that you feel you do not need to try any harder
  • Definite - clearly true or real
  • Giant - of very great size or force
  • Peer - someone at your own level
  • Wares - articles offered for sale
  • Barely - only just
  • Heady - having a powerful effect
  • Critics - someone who says that they do not approve of someone or something
  • Innovations - the use of a new idea or method
  • Slowdown - a decline in economic activity
  • Premium - used to refer to something that is of higher than usual quality
  • Maverick - a person who thinks and acts in an independent way, often behaving differently from the expected or usual way
  • Stake - a share or a financial involvement in a business
  • Citing - referring
  • Concerns - worries
  • Nurture - to take care of and protect something
  • Ticked all the boxes - to fulfill all the requirements
  • Calling on somebody - to ask someone in a formal way to do something
  • Poised - ready to do a particular thing at any moment
  • Price-sensitive - a price-sensitive product is one whose sales are influenced by price rather than quality
  • Immense - extremely large or great
  • Potential - having or showing the capacity to develop into something in the future
  • Pre-owned - previously owned by someone else
  • Overruled - rejected
  • Elusive - difficult to describe, find, achieve, or remember
