Reimburse

Definition:  to pay back money to someone that they have spent or lost
Usage:  The instructors were not reimbursed for the materials that they purchased for the class

Dusk

Definition: the time of day when the light has almost gone, but it is not yet dark
Usage: She turned and disappeared into the dusk

Pecuniary

Definition: relating to or connected with money
Usage:  The judge recused himself from the case because he had a pecuniary interest in the company that was being sued

Fidelity


Definition:  the quality of being loyal to someone or something
2) the quality of being faithful to your husband, wife, or partner by not having a sexual relationship with anyone else
3) the quality of being accurate
Usage:  Fidelity to your principles

Ossify


Definition:  to become or make something fixed and unable to change
2) to become or make something hard like bone
Usage:  An ossified political system

Jargon

Definition:  words or expressions that are used by a particular profession or group of people, and are difficult for others to understand
Usage:  Medical jargon that the layman cannot understand

Relapse

Definition:  the fact of becoming sick again after making an improvement
Usage:  He was relapsing into his usual gloom.

Dogma

Definition:  a belief or set of beliefs held by a group or organization, that others are expected to accept without argument
Usage:  He believes that when living in a certain society you should become a real part of it by sticking to its rules dogmas and principles

Ecstatic

Definition:  very happy, excited, and enthusiastic
Usage:  He was ecstatic when he heard that he was going to be a father.

Sham

Definition:  not genuine but intended to seem real
Usage:  Street vendors selling sham designer handbags to gullible tourists

Indoctrinate

Definition:  Instill one's own ideas into someone with force
Usage:  He was an accomplished speaker and managed to indoctrinate the crowd with his ideals and philosophy

Magnate

Definition:  a person who is rich, powerful, and successful, especially in business
Usage:  The business magnate was reputed to have made many millions of dollars for the company.

Intrigue


Definition:  to make someone very interested so that they want to know more about something
2) to secretly plan with other people to harm someone
Usage:  She detected her husband in an intrigue with a prostitute.

Furtive

Definition:  behaving in a way that shows that you want to keep something secret and do not want to be noticed
Usage:  The thief gave a furtive glance at the defense attorney when the judge read the charges.

Interregnum

Definition:  A period of time when a country or organization has no ruler or leader, and they are waiting for a new one
Usage:  The ruler of the country has already decided on his successor to prevent any interregnum upon his death.
