Before I start telling my story, I want to share the words of Khalil Gibran - Parents are like a bow, and children like arrows. The more the bow bends and stretches, the farther the arrow flies. I fly, not because I am special, but because they stretched for me.
So coming to my story, I completed B.E (Electronics and Communication) from BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus in 2014. I got selected in a software startup company during my campus placements. I worked there (Indore) for 1 month and I had seen hell. That was when I realized that a Bank job is far better than a software job (as I am not good at coding) in all aspects. Thanks to my Father’s courage and trust in me, I was able to resign my job and start preparing for Banks, despite being in a financially weak state.
My exam marathon began with SBI Associate PO 2014. As I was just a rookie, my preparation involved practicing only my favorite subjects (English, Reasoning). I cleared the written test with the help of my subjects and faced my first GD, PI. My interview was miserable, as I had no knowledge on Current Affairs and Banking (I didn’t know about Bankers Adda at that time). I cleared the written tests of IBPS SO – IT officer (which I shouldn’t have written, as I am not good at IT) and NICL AO but my interview performance was so bad and I couldn’t make it to the final selection.
That was when I realized, being a GENERAL candidate who cannot rely on interviews, I must give more than ordinary performance in the written tests to get a job. I practiced Quant, where I had scored only 13 marks in SBI Associate PO, and GA (thanks to BA and my institute, PRISM). I believed in making the impossible possible. With enough exposure and confidence,I gave SBI PO Prelims and scored 76.25 marks (attempted 78 qstns) and scored 126 marks in Mains (excluding descriptive part) and am finally selected as an SBI PO.
My advice to all the aspirants, especially to those who find it hard to score in interviews, is to score the maximum possible marks in the written test. Don’t just keep practicing your favorite subjects; acquire command over all the subjects. You are the master of your own fate. Score maximum marks in the written test and no one can stop you from getting the job. You can rely on BA for GA and for other subjects. Sky is the limit, just keep practicing different models. All the best
