Directions (Q 1-17) : Read each sentence to rind out whether there is any error in it. The error, if any will be in one part of the sentence, the number of that part is the answer. It there Is no error, the answer is (5).

Answers with Explanations :

  1. 3; Write 'himself' after 'absented'.
  2. 2; Delete 'himself'
    • Exp : 1 & 2: Atter verbs absent, avail, acquit, enjoy, apply, resign Reflexive Pronouns are used. After verbs like hide, turn, qual-ify, make, feed, roll Reflexive Pronouns are not used.
  3. 4; It should be 'fill in.'
  4. 3; Delete 'they'
    • Exp: 3 & 4 : A pronoun should not be omitted when it is used for a noun in the objective case after a transitive verb. A pronoun should be wrongly inserted where it is not required.
  5. 2; It should be 'works of Vivekananda'
    • Exp: The relative pronoun should be placed as near as possible to its antecedent. In this sentence Who' is the relative pronoun and Wivekananda] is the antecedent.
  6. 1; Replace him' with 'he'.
  7. 1; Replace 'me' with 'I.'
    • Exp: 6 & 7; When the pronoun is used as the complement of the verb 'to be', it should be in the Nominative case.
  8. 4; Replace 1' with 'me'.
  9. 3; Replace 'I' with 'me'.
    • Exp: 8 & 9; The pronoun which is used as the object of a verb or preposition should be in the objective case.
  10. 2; Replace Who' with 'that'.
    • Exp: In superlative degree the relative pro-noun that' is used instead of Who'.
  11. 5; After the word 'all', relative pronoun that is used. 
  12. 1; Replace Which' with that'.
    • Exp: After interrogative pronouns like 'who', 'what', 'that' should come.
  13. 2; Replace 'in that he works' with that he works in' or In segment 2 'that' can be replaced with Which'.
  14. 4; Replace like' with 'as'.
    • Exp: Relative pronoun 'as' is used after 'such'. 
  15. 2; Replace 'have given their' with has given his' 
    • Exp: When two or more singular nouns joined by and refer to the same person or thing, the pronoun and the verb should be singular.
  16. 3; Replace their' with his'.
    • Exp: When two singular nouns joined by 'and' are preceded by 'each' or 'every', the pronoun must be in singular.
  17. 4; Replace their' with 'his'.
