1. ZONKED (ADJECTIVE): drunk, intoxicated; stunned

Synonyms: amazed, bashed 

Antonyms: sober, straight 

Example Sentence:

Two-thirds of her crew are zonked, other third are ashore or sick.


2. PROCURE (VERB): acquire, obtain

Synonyms: buy, solicit Antonyms: forfeit, hinder

Example Sentence:

Young described how he was ordered to procure a special cellphone so the lovers could secretly communicate.


3. TUBBY (ADJECTIVE): fat

Synonyms: beefy, broad Antonyms: lean

Example Sentence:

No man is ever too old to look at a woman, and no woman is ever too tubby to hope that he will look.


4. ARCHETYPE (NOUN): typical example

Synonyms: form, ideal Antonyms: disorganization, atypical

Example Sentence:

He had not, however, rid himself of the notion that the archetype was a property inherent in the group.


5. RENEGADE (ADJECTIVE): rebellious

Synonyms: reactionary, dissident Antonyms: passive, submissive

Example Sentence:

The Russian president mocked American and European claims that he was conducting some sort of renegade power play in Crimea.


6. REVERENT (ADJECTIVE): respectful

Synonyms: appreciative, gracious Antonyms: impolite, rude

Example Sentence:

The story of these and her sisters we must pass in reverent silence.


7. CONSPICUITY (NOUN): something that sticks out

Synonyms: eminence, height Antonyms: unimportance, nadir

Example Sentence:

The young man and the pulpit are therefore preeminent in conspicuity.


8. IMPETUS (VERB): stimulus, force 

Synonyms: catalyst, impulse Antonyms: check, block

Example Sentence:

Perhaps the impetus may be given them by the pressure of the currents from the poles. 


9. MEMOIR (NOUN): record of experiences

Synonyms: chronicle, journal Antonyms: ignorance

Example Sentence:

His most recent book is a memoir, The Autobiography of an Execution.


10. CARTEL (NOUN): group which shares business interest

Synonyms: conglomerate, corporation Antonyms: separate, single

Example Sentence:



And that conglomerate also owns nearly 70 percent of the Rossing uranium mine in Namibia.
