IBPS RRB 2015 - Detailed Syllabus

August 17, 2015

Dear Readers,
With RBI getting over, many students shifted their gear according to the IBPS RRB. Yes friends, the RRB is just a few weeks away and as we all have already studied for RBI, we just have to go through all the topics once and will have to start practicing more and more questions for the exam. Apart from practicing, we also have to manage the time for each subject separately. So let us introspect and have a view on what IBPS RRB is all going to be about.

Friends, this time RRB has brought some changes in the process and the most important of all, this time there will be a common interview process. It will be similar to the PO and Clerk recruitment process. This is going to be very crucial as we have observed that RRB used to have easy papers and low cut-offs. But due to this change, we are going to get a bit standard paper and nominal cut-offs. This is the last thing that we have to consider. Now let us have a look at RRB Syllabus for Office Assistant and Officer Scale-I.
Office Assistant (Multipurpose)

Composite Time of 2hours
Numerical Ability

Officer Scale-I

The above is the scheme of examination that has been officially published by the IBPS under RRB recruitment advertisement. The above is the section wise bifurcation of the exam. Last year the composite time used to be 2.30 hours but this time, it will be of 2 hours only. One more change that IBPS brought this time is the section wise marks. And if you observe it carefully, it is similar to the IBPS PO exam format.
After having a look at the syllabus, the next question that arises is what should be the ideal time management and how to attempt the exam. Friends, in examination the time management play a very crucial role and it is evident from what we saw in the SBI PO Prelims 2015 where time management was the need of the situation. One who managed got through and the one who didn’t are still wondering. So to keep our pace up with the demand of the time, let us have a look at the below graph of how the time needs to be distributed among each section to clear sectional as well as overall cut-off.
The next crucial ingredient after time management is the ability to leave a question. You must be surprised at what we just said. You must have always heard that attempt as many as possible, zyada se zyada karo and all. These two statements are not contradictory, in fact they are supplementary. The crux of the above two statement is that you should attempt as many questions as possible and leave the questions that takes longer than usual. You should know which question to leave just after reading it once. Do not get pressurized with the thought of leaving it and don’t get in a dilemma because you might solve two or three other questions in the same time that you are thinking to devote to that particular problem. You might feel that these are petty issues and it won’t affect much but believe us friends, these can make a difference.
IBPS RRB is not different from any other banking examination. As we have already provided you the section wise details, now below is the details from each of the subjects.
1. Reasoning :-
Reasoning is going to be the subject in which most of the students will secure maximum marks out of all the subjects they are going to attempt in the exam. This is based on the research that we did on the previous year papers and we can say that most of the student will secure maximum in this subject. There is a way of attempting the reasoning section. In reasoning the must to do part is the Linear arrangements, Inequalities, Syllogisms, Coding-Decoding, Direction Sense Test and other miscellaneous questions. After this you should switch to other subject but if time allows then go for other topics as well like Puzzle, Statement Assumption (only for officer scale) and rest that you are not comfortable with. Below is the table depicting the number of questions expected.
No. Of Questions
Seating Arrangement
Data Sufficiency
Order and Ranking
Coding-Decoding
Miscellaneous
2. Numerical Ability :-
Dear friends do you wonder why IBPS chooses different name for Maths section. We have seen that SBI used Quantitative Aptitude for the Preliminary Exam, Data Interpretation and Data Analysis is used in SBI Mains, IBPs PO uses quantitative Aptitude and so on. Numerical ability itself suggests that you are going to get a hell lot of calculative questions. From approximation to simplification, every type of calculation will be there. So start practicing and try to develop the skill to calculate without pen and paper and you will see the result in the forthcoming exams. Talking about the must to do questions from this section, you must attempt the questions from Data Interpretation, Quadratic Equation, Simplification, Approximation, and some part of the miscellaneous section. And leave the questions that takes more time. Have a look at the below table and you can have an idea about the sectional distribution.
No. Of Questions
Quadratic Equations
Simplification/Approximation

3.a. English :-
This section will be as usual and all the conventional questions will be asked. There will not be any change in this section. The topics that you should attempt first is Cloze Test, Fillers, Parajumbles (at least First and Last), Error Detection and if time permits, then go for Reading Comprehension.

3.b.Hindi :-
Dear readers, this section is one of the most demanded section in the RRB exam. Many people attempt the Hindi language and many scores good. So below is the topic wise distribution of the section. You can easily score a sufficient amount of questions.
No. Of Questions

गद्यांश में रिक्त स्थान की पूर्ति
4. General Awareness :-
This will be the combination of General Banking and Current Affairs questions. This will be same as IBPS PO and Clerk GA section. You can refer our Capsule for this section. In RBI, we have seen that many questions were from capsule and it covered the most of the GA Syllabus. So let’s hope for the best and we will be launching the capsule very soon. Till the time, you can refer to the Hindu review of the previous months.
5. Computer :-
This section is one of the easiest and can be done easily. Keeping in view the IBPS, we will be launching the computer capsule and it will cover the maximum part of the Computer section.
So this is all about the IBPS RRB exam. We have tried to cover each and everything and if you have any doubt, then you are welcome to comment on this post.
All The Best
