Directions (1-5): Below are given some passages followed by several possible inferences which can be drawn from the facts stated in the passage. You have to examine each inference separately in the context of the passage and then decide upon its degree of truth and falsity.

Passage: The country has taken a major initiative by introducing convertibility of the Rupee on the current account. It has also been declared that the ultimate goal is to make the Rupee fully convertible. These are signs of the country's achieving economic maturity. India is now ready to welcome foreign capital. It is preparing to reduce import tariffs to levels which are currently the norm in other developing countries. All these measures show that India is today mature and strong enough to face international competition and to integrate itself successfully with the global economy. The country is ready to shed its ideological inhibitions and ready to evaluate the international economic environment in a pragmatic spirit.

6. Statement: Air export volumes have increased substantially over the past decade causing backlogs and difficulties for air cargo agents because of increased demand for space and service.

II. The reasons for the increase in the volume of air export should be found out.

7. Statement: The world conference of "Education for All" took place in 1990. Members who attended conference endorsed the frame-work of action for meeting the basic learning needs of all children

Courses of Action:

I. India should suitably implement the action points of this conference.

II. India should also immediately organise this type of conference.

8. Statement: About 30% to 40% of children who are enrolled, do not attend the school on any given day. 

Courses of Action:

I. More schools should be started.

II. Reasons for this absenteeism should be found out.

Directions (9-10): In each of the questions below, is given a statement followed by three assumptions numbered I, II and III. An assumption is something supposed or taken for granted. You have to consider the statement and the assumptions and decide which of the assumption(s) is/are implicit in the statement.

9. Statement: "Move into the upper echelons without paying steep price - book a luxurious flat with us." — Advertisement of a construction company.

Assumptions: 

I. It is possible to join the select brand of rich people by hard work.

II. Staying in luxury without paying steep price is the criterion of upper crust of society.

III. Booking a luxurious flat is very easy now.

10. Statement: "The employees' association has appealed to the Manager of company 'S' to introduce written examination for clerical cadre recruitment to prevent selection of incompetent persons."

III. At higher level, written examination may not be of much use.
