Twitter Enables Setting To Let Anyone Send You A Direct Message

April 20, 2015

Twitter has enabled an old feature that lets anyone to send you a direct message, even if you don’t follow them.

The changes are rolling out on iOS and Android versions as well.

Twitter had previously pulled this feature down in November 2013 after testing it for a month, but a few Twitter handles had this feature enabled.

The feature is likely to be used by corporate brands, who can now handle support issues without having to follow the user. “With today’s changes, the ice cream shop can opt to receive Direct Messages from anyone; so you can privately send your appreciation for the salted caramel without any barriers.” said said Nhu Vuong, Senior Software Engineer at Twitter on the official blog announcing the feature.
