  • Sydney-based Lowy Institute has released the Global Diplomacy Index 2019 report. The Global Diplomacy Index 2019 includes 42 nations. Among the 42 nations, 19 nations are members of the G20 Group while 34 countries are OECD member nations (Note:-There are 11 nations which are members of both organizations). The Global Diplomacy Index 2019 gives a clear pen picture of the latest statistics. These statistics mark the diplomatic relations among the various countries of the World.

Major highlights of the Index

  • It is evident from the Global Diplomacy Index 2019 that China happens to have more diplomatic posts as compared to the US. China has a total of 276 consulates and embassies all over the globe. The United States has 273 consulates and embassies. In the year 2016, the third place was occupied by China, just behind the United States and France. In the year 2017, the rank of China was 2. It can be mentioned at this very juncture that at the expense of Taiwan, China has expanded its footprint.
  • The United States is the most popular place among the countries in the world to set up consulates and embassies.
  • There are a total of 61 countries ranked in the Global Diplomacy Index 2019 report. The rank of India in the index is 12th. India has a total of 123 embassies. India also has 54 consulates all over the globe.
  • In the year 2017, there were 120 embassies and 52 consulates of India. So, we can conclude that India has actually expanded a lot.
